What was reported near Nürburg?
In a July 19, 2024 video description titled “SPYSHOTS: 2026 Kia Sportage Facelift,” autoevolution said a Euro-spec prototype had been seen on public roads in Nürburg, Germany. The description noted a roll cage and Recaro front seats. It also described Michelin Primacy 4 summer tires and visible front and rear styling cues. These are observations attributed to the publisher, not independently confirmed test details. autoevolution’s report
Nürburg is a town near the Nürburgring, but a sighting on its public roads is not evidence of a circuit test. The description supplies no lap time, recorded run or other measured performance result. Nor do the reported seats and roll cage, by themselves, confirm a production high-performance Sportage.
What is confirmed about the 2026 Sportage refresh?
Kia’s US-market release describes a substantial production update, including revised front and rear bumpers, distinct X-Line styling, stacked LED headlamps, amber Star Map daytime running lights and Star Map taillamps. Cabin changes include Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, an available 12.3-inch display, over-the-air updates, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto depending on trim. Kia identifies an available 10-inch head-up display for US HEV and PHEV models. The announcement’s wording makes equipment availability trim- and powertrain-dependent, rather than standard across every Sportage.
US powertrains are not Nürburgring test figures
Kia’s US materials list three powertrain types for the refreshed Sportage. These are manufacturer specifications for US production models, not measurements from the reported prototype sighting.

Kia’s US specification page gives the gasoline engine’s displacement as 2,497 cc and lists 187 hp at 6,100 rpm and 178 lb-ft at 4,000 rpm across the trims shown. Kia’s US Sportage specifications The output and towing figures above are not evidence of the prototype’s configuration or performance.
Why Brazil’s 2026 specifications differ
Kia Brasil’s November 7, 2025 announcement describes a different local configuration: a 1.6-liter turbo direct-injection gasoline engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, rated at 178 cv and 27 kgf·m, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. It reports Inmetro fuel-economy figures of 12.5 km/l in the city and 13.2 km/l on the highway when using gasoline. The Brazilian announcement also describes Star Map exterior lighting, updated wheels, an updated instrument panel and a two-spoke steering wheel. It says the local model was previewed in São Paulo and scheduled for launch at the November 2025 motor show. Its promotional price was historical, so it is not a reliable current price reference.
