The 2025 Lexus GX 550 Luxury+ is a strong fit for buyers who want a comfortable, well-equipped three-row SUV for family use and long road trips, with full-time four-wheel drive. It is not the best GX for maximum towing or serious trail hardware. “Most balanced” is a buyer-fit judgment, not a universal ranking: the Luxury+ makes sense when cabin comfort and convenience matter more than either of those priorities.

Every U.S.-market 2025 GX grade shares a 349-hp, 479-lb-ft 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6, a 10-speed automatic and full-time 4WD, according to Lexus USA’s 2024 model-year announcement. Luxury+ builds on the Luxury grade with additional comfort and convenience equipment, including:

The towing figures are the clearest counterpoint to calling Luxury+ the most balanced GX: Luxury is listed slightly higher, while Overtrail’s maximum is substantially higher. If towing is a deciding factor, match the exact grade and vehicle configuration to the load rather than assuming all GX 550s have the same rating.
Luxury+ versus Overtrail: comfort or trail equipment?
The Luxury+ is the better match if your priorities are cabin amenities, passenger comfort and a three-row layout. Overtrail and Overtrail+ are aimed at buyers who want more specialized off-road equipment, including the lift, E-KDSS, locking rear differential and all-terrain tires. Those upgrades answer a different need; they do not make Overtrail a universally superior trim.

Choose according to where and how you will use the SUV. For paved trips, family duties and occasional rough roads, Luxury+’s comfort-oriented equipment is a coherent package. For regular trail driving where the added hardware matters, compare the Overtrail grades instead. Lexus’ 2025 GX announcement also describes accessory support for items such as rooftop tents and recovery kits; check model-specific fitment and the vehicle’s roof equipment before buying accessories.
Fuel economy, seating and ownership checks
Lexus’ 2025 brochure gives an EPA-estimated 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway and 17 mpg combined for the GX. These are manufacturer-published EPA estimates, not real-world test results; actual fuel use depends on conditions and driving.
