Its 8.3 inches of U.S.-spec ground clearance and traction controls make it equipped for some rough or slippery surfaces, but those specifications alone do not make it a dedicated off-roader or establish that it can handle every trail.
What makes the Solterra an electric SUV for rough surfaces?
Subaru’s U.S. 2024 specification lists dual electric motors, standard AWD, 215 horsepower and 249 lb-ft of torque. The model also has 8.3 inches of ground clearance. Those features provide a useful starting point for discussing light off-pavement driving, but clearance and AWD are only part of trail capability; the specifications cited here do not establish performance on demanding terrain.
The Solterra’s X-MODE system is designed to adjust motor output, AWD engagement and stability control for varied terrain and low-friction surfaces. Subaru lists two settings:
- Snow/Dirt: intended for traction on snow- or dirt-covered surfaces.
- Deep Snow/Mud: intended for deeper or more challenging low-traction conditions.
X-MODE also includes Grip Control and Downhill Assist Control. These are traction and low-speed control aids, not a guarantee of safe passage over obstacles, deep ruts, steep slopes or other demanding trail conditions.

How much ground clearance does the 2024 Solterra have?
Subaru of America lists 8.3 inches of ground clearance for the U.S. 2024 Solterra in its 2024 brochure. Subaru Australia reported 212 mm for its regional model in a March 2024 announcement. These are market-specific published figures; use the specification for the vehicle’s market rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Ground clearance is one factor in whether an SUV can avoid scraping its underside, but it does not tell you the vehicle’s approach, departure or breakover angles, nor does it establish how it performs on a particular trail. The cited U.S. materials describe the vehicle’s equipment and specifications, not an independent trail test.

What are the 2024 Solterra’s range and charging specifications?
Subaru’s U.S. brochure lists a 72.8 kWh battery and manufacturer-published EPA range figures that vary by trim. These are not promises of real-world range: actual distance and charging depend on conditions, equipment and the power source.

The brochure lists maximum charging rates of 100 kW for DC fast charging and 6.6 kW for Level 2 charging. It gives 9.5 hours at 240 V/32 A for Level 2 charging. Subaru’s January 2024 announcement said charging from 10% to 80% could take “as quickly as 35 minutes”; that is the manufacturer’s conditional claim, not a guaranteed charging time. Charging results vary with the charger and other conditions.

Can you equip the Solterra for camping or cargo?
Subaru’s U.S. specification sheet lists fixed crossbar mounting points. Subaru stated roof-load limits of 176 pounds while driving (dynamic) and 700 pounds while parked (static) for the 2024 model. Confirm the vehicle’s labels and owner’s manual for the applicable limits and instructions before carrying a roof load; crossbar fitment also needs to be verified for the specific model year and vehicle.
How do U.S. and Australian specifications differ?
Solterra specifications are not identical across markets. Subaru Australia’s March 2024 release lists a 71.4 kWh battery, 160 kW output, 337 Nm of torque and 212 mm of ground clearance for its regional model. The U.S. brochure instead lists 72.8 kWh, 215 hp, 249 lb-ft and 8.3 inches. These are separate market specifications and should not be combined into one set of figures.

What did the 2024 Solterra cost when new?
Subaru announced a U.S. starting MSRP of $44,995 for the 2024 model in January 2024, with retailer arrival expected in early 2024. That is historical launch pricing, not a current used-car valuation or a statement of today’s inventory or incentives. The announcement is available from Subaru of America.
