The 2019 Subaru STI S209 is genuinely rare: Subaru limited U.S. production to 209 cars. But rarity has not translated into a clear, uniform rise in resale value. Some examples have sold well above the car’s original price, while other reported sales and valuation estimates are far lower. The best-supported conclusion is that the S209 is a scarce, high-spec STI whose value depends on the individual car and how it is sold—not a model with a proven, steady appreciation curve.
Why the S209 is a rare STI
Subaru introduced the S209 as the first STI S-line performance car sold in the U.S. market and capped U.S. production at 209 vehicles. That limited run sets it apart from an ordinary WRX STI, but scarcity alone does not determine what a particular car will bring.
The S209’s factory specification also helps explain its collector interest. Subaru rated its turbocharged 2.5-liter EJ25 flat-four at 341 hp and paired it with a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive. Equipment included STI-tuned Bilstein suspension, 19-by-9-inch forged BBS wheels with 265/35R19 tires, Brembo brakes, a larger turbocharger, engine and fueling changes, an intercooler water-spray system, and carbon-fiber exterior components. These are finalized specifications; Subaru’s earlier introductory material included estimates that were later updated. Subaru’s finalized S209 specifications and its U.S. pricing announcement describe the car’s equipment and configuration.

Published results show a wide spread rather than a consistent upward sequence. These are reported sales or estimates from different dates and sources, not like-for-like transactions.

The original announced U.S. price was $63,995, plus $885 destination and delivery, according to Subaru’s October 2019 pricing announcement. That is a new-car price from 2019, not a present-day valuation. The $104,000 result was substantially above it, while the $47,000 sale was below it; neither single transaction establishes the value trajectory of all S209s.
Do the numbers prove the S209 is appreciating?
No. The cited results do not establish continuous or universal appreciation. The $104,000 sale involved a listed 139-mile car, while the $75,709 result involved a listed 2,400-mile example. Other reported prices came from different dates and venues, and the available figures do not control for condition, title history, originality, or sale circumstances. They show that some S209s have sold above their original sticker price, not that every S209 has risen in value or that prices follow a predictable path.

Model-based figures are not interchangeable with completed sales. When accessed on October 8, 2026, Classic.com displayed a $72,222 S209 Market Benchmark alongside the March 2026 sale. A benchmark summarizes market data; it is not a promised sale price. Kelley Blue Book’s estimates for ZIP code 78201, valid through September 25, 2026, were $30,960–$36,260 for private-party value by condition, with a displayed Fair Purchase Price of $36,550. Those localized estimates differ from collector-auction results and should not be treated as equivalent evidence. Kelley Blue Book’s 2019 S209 estimates.

Subaru’s production cap and specialized hardware give the S209 a strong case as a scarce, distinctive STI. The available sales evidence, however, supports a variable market—not a reliable promise of future gains.
