No—not RECARO as a whole. The insolvency filing that prompted the headlines concerned RECARO Automotive GmbH in Germany in July 2024. RECARO Automotive later announced a takeover by Proma Group and continues to describe automotive business activity. RECARO’s aircraft seating, gaming and rail businesses were identified as separate and unaffected by that German GmbH proceeding.
What happened to RECARO Automotive?
On July 30, 2024, RECARO Automotive GmbH said it had filed for insolvency with the Local Court of Esslingen. The company cited sharp cost increases, the loss of a major contract, legacy products and business operations, and reduced regional vehicle spending. The court had approved preliminary self-administration on July 29.
At the time, RECARO Automotive said it planned to maintain full production and fulfill existing orders and new inquiries while the proceedings continued. Which RECARO businesses were affected?
In an October 9, 2024 clarification, RECARO Automotive said the proceedings applied exclusively to RECARO Automotive GmbH in Germany. It said the proceedings did not cover other automotive and commercial-vehicle entities in North America and Japan or Chinese joint ventures, and did not affect RECARO Aircraft Seating, RECARO Gaming or RECARO Rail.

The company described the relationship between RECARO Holding and RECARO Automotive as a licensing relationship and said Holding held no stake in the automotive GmbH. In that same announcement, RECARO Automotive stated: “RECARO Automotive is still in business.” This distinction matters: a filing by one German company was not a filing by every business using the RECARO name. What changed after the insolvency filing?
Proma Group takeover announced in December 2024
On December 4, 2024, RECARO Automotive announced that Proma Group had signed an investment agreement to take over the German business. The announcement said operations would continue, a European relaunch was planned for January 2025, aftermarket seats would be available, and OEM production would transfer to Italy. Automotive activity reported in 2026
In an August 4, 2026 release, RECARO Automotive announced a collaboration with United Safety & Survivability Corporation on commercial-vehicle seating for North America and Oceania. The release says RECARO Automotive has been part of Proma Group since January 2025. CEO Luca Pino described the collaboration this way: “I am very proud to partner with United Safety on the commercial vehicle seating in North America and Oceania”. What do RECARO Holding’s latest figures show?
RECARO Holding’s March 19, 2026 results release reported €723 million in total revenue and an orderbook of almost €3 billion for 2025. It also reported nearly 120,000 passenger seats produced by RECARO Aircraft Seating in 2025, and nearly 3,400 employees worldwide. These are company-reported figures for the broader Holding or the named aircraft-seating business—not the revenue, solvency or production capacity of RECARO Automotive GmbH.

What should RECARO seat owners and buyers do?
Company-wide status announcements cannot confirm whether a particular seat, replacement pad, warranty, dealer or service channel is available in your country. Check current RECARO support or an authorized local partner with your exact model and location before relying on a prior warranty or availability claim.

For example, RECARO lists the Podium CF as a retrofit shell seat for road and track use. Its manufacturer page says approval and certification depend on the configuration and vehicle, and lists sidemounts and replacement pad kits as accessories. Before buying or installing any seat, verify the exact seat, baseframe, sidemount, restraint arrangement, road approval and jurisdiction with current documentation or a qualified authorized installer.
