No: Honda did not confirm an S2000 successor for its 75th anniversary in 2023. The claim came from a suggestive executive remark reported that year, not an announcement of a new model or launch date. Honda later voiced hope for a future car carrying the “S” name, but did not commit to building one.
Why the 75th-anniversary rumor started
In 2023, Autocar India reported an executive remark: “Watch this space: [2023 is] 75 years – we had the S2000 at 50.” The comment invited speculation about another sports car, but it did not name an S2000 successor, identify a powertrain, or confirm a production model or debut date.
The anniversary connection was real, but it was not evidence of a repeat. Honda introduced the S2000 prototype at its 50th Anniversary Ceremony in September 1998, and the production car debuted in 1999. Honda celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2023; the symmetry helps explain the rumor, but does not establish a successor plan.
What Honda has said about a future “S” car
A December 2024 Honda Design interview included a comment from automobile package designer Masayuki Togawa: “Therefore, if the ‘S’ name is going to make an appearance in the future, I hope it will show up as a car that is steps ahead of its time.” That is a designer’s expressed hope, not a confirmation that Honda has approved or scheduled a new S-series model.

Prelude
Honda describes the all-new Prelude as a specialty hybrid sports model for the electrified era. Its September 4, 2025 announcement does not identify it as an S2000 successor.
Sport Line
Honda’s January 9, 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon announcement introduced Sport Line and Trail Line directions, alongside HRC-spec concepts. It likewise does not call those concepts or the broader Sport Line direction an S2000 replacement.

What happened to the original S2000
Honda’s January 2009 release says the S2000 debuted in 1999 and that production for all regions would conclude by the end of June 2009. Honda reported more than 110,000 units sold worldwide through the end of December 2008. The same release notes that the S2000 prototype had been introduced at the company’s 50th Anniversary Ceremony in September 1998. Honda Global’s discontinuation announcement is the source for these historical details.
