The clearest clue in the spy coverage is its sharply sloping roofline, which sets it apart from the more upright BMW iX3. BMW has not confirmed the iX4’s specifications, reveal date or production schedule; late-2026 timing mentioned by media outlets remains an expectation, not a BMW commitment.
What do the BMW iX4 spy photos show?
Autocar India reported on 9 September 2026 that an iX4 prototype was testing in Germany. The outlet describes the model as a coupe-SUV counterpart to the iX3 and the first electric version of BMW’s Sports Activity Coupe line. Autocar India’s report is the latest dated sighting in the coverage cited here.
Earlier sightings were reported by BMWBLOG: a camouflaged prototype near the Nürburgring in June 2026 and footage on Munich streets in July 2026. BMWBLOG identifies the prototype in its coverage as internally coded NA7; that code and the locations are outlet reporting, not BMW product confirmations. June’s Nürburgring-area report and July’s Munich footage report document those sightings.
The roofline is the main visible distinction
Reports describe a front end that looks similar in direction to the iX3, but a rear profile reshaped around a sharply raked roof. The prototypes remain camouflaged, so concealed bodywork, lighting details and renderings should not be treated as confirmed production design. The coupe roof may affect rear headroom and cargo utility, but no measured iX4 interior or luggage-space figures are available in the cited sources.

When will the BMW iX4 come out?
Some automotive reports expect a late-2026 debut or production start. Those dates are projections, not a published BMW schedule. BMW’s official Neue Klasse overview identifies the iX3 as the first series-production vehicle in the Neue Klasse family, but does not confirm an iX4 reveal date or production plan. For context only, BMW’s 2025 iX3 information gives a range of up to 805 km (500 miles, WLTP). BMW also says the iX3’s maximum 400 kW charging rate can add 372 km (231 miles, WLTP) of range in 10 minutes. Neither figure is an iX4 rating; see BMW’s official figures and technology overview.

- Battery capacity, range, motor output and charging rate
- Price, trim names and market availability
- Official reveal date and production schedule
- Measured passenger space, rear headroom and cargo capacity
Reports associate the iX4 with the iX3’s platform and extrapolate possible technical details from that model. Those are media expectations rather than BMW-confirmed iX4 facts; the iX3’s specifications should not be carried over as though they belong to the iX4.

What can shoppers reasonably compare with the iX3?
For now, the meaningful reported distinction is body shape: the iX4 is expected to have a more coupe-like roof and altered rear profile. A useful buying comparison will need confirmed iX4 data for price, range, charging, performance and availability, along with measured rear-seat and cargo space. Until BMW publishes those details, claims that the iX4 matches the iX3 on those measures are not established.
