Yes— a Nissan Rogue can be a good buy if the price, trim, condition and service history suit your needs. The 2026 model has a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick designation, but that award does not apply automatically to older Rogues. For used examples, check the specific VIN for open recalls—especially certain 2021–2024 models with the 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine—and confirm any required repair was completed.
Is the Nissan Rogue worth buying new?
The 2026.5 Rogue’s published U.S. MSRP ranges from $29,490 for the S FWD to $39,390 for the Platinum AWD. Nissan lists a $1,575 destination and handling charge; taxes, title, license, options and dealer pricing are additional. These are MSRPs, not guaranteed transaction prices. Compare the actual vehicle’s equipment and out-the-door quote before deciding whether a trim is worth its premium. Nissan’s 2026.5 pricing and specifications lists S, SV, Dark Armor, Rock Creek and Platinum configurations.
Nissan estimates 29 mpg city, 36 highway and 32 combined for the 2026.5 FWD Rogue. That is an EPA estimate for that drivetrain, not a promise of real-world fuel economy. AWD models and other model years should be compared using their own figures.
How safe is the Nissan Rogue?
The IIHS lists the 2026 Rogue as a Top Safety Pick. Its page reports Good ratings in the small overlap front and updated side tests, and Acceptable in the updated moderate overlap front test. The updated moderate overlap rating applies to 2025–2026 models. IIHS also notes that the Rogue was redesigned for 2021 and that passenger-side frontal ratings have build-date qualifications, so check the rating page for the exact test and vehicle applicability rather than extending the 2026 result to every used Rogue. What should you know about used Rogue reliability?
There is no sound basis here for a blanket reliability verdict covering every Rogue year or for ranking it against rivals. Consumer Reports’ public 2025 overview describes the third-generation Rogue as taut, agile, relatively quiet and user-friendly, but its detailed reliability and owner-satisfaction information is subscriber restricted. Those review observations do not establish long-term dependability or ownership costs.

Engine and model year are important when comparing used examples. Consumer Reports says the Rogue used a 181-hp 2.5-liter four-cylinder through 2021; from 2022, it switched to a 201-hp turbocharged three-cylinder. Which used Rogue years should you check especially carefully?
AP reported on July 3, 2025, that a recall covered certain 2021–2024 Rogues equipped with the 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine. Bearing manufacturing defects could cause engine damage or failure. “Certain” is important: model year and engine alone do not establish whether an individual car is included, and the report does not tell you whether a particular vehicle’s repair was completed. - Get the vehicle identification number (VIN) from the car and enter it in NHTSA’s recall lookup.
- Ask the seller or dealer for documentation showing whether the vehicle was included and whether the remedy was completed.
- Have a qualified mechanic inspect the vehicle and review its service history before purchase, particularly if recall status or repair documentation is unclear.
How should you compare Rogue trims and used examples?
Compare vehicles on the same practical basis rather than choosing by year or trim name alone. For a new Rogue, confirm the specific vehicle’s features and options against the dealer’s quote: equipment can vary by trim and package. Nissan describes the Rock Creek, for example, as having all-terrain tires and a roof rack, but verify that the vehicle you are considering has the equipment you expect.
- Price and equipment: Compare the actual price, included features and options, and account for destination and handling on new-car quotes.
- Drivetrain and fuel use: Distinguish FWD from AWD and compare fuel-economy estimates for the exact model year and configuration.
- Used-car condition: Review mileage, maintenance records, warranty coverage, recall status and completed repairs.
- Safety: Check crash-test ratings for the model year and build details that apply to the specific car.

For a new 2026.5 model, judge the dealer’s actual quote against the trim and drivetrain you want rather than treating MSRP as the final price.
