The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – 50 Years 911 Turbo Edition is a 500-piece commemorative watch pairing the design history of the Chronograph I with that of the first Porsche 911 Turbo. Announced on 16 August 2024, it draws visual details from the 1974 Turbo and uses a black-coated titanium case, Porsche Design’s automatic WERK 01.240 chronograph movement, and both a titanium bracelet and textile strap.
Why this edition links a watch and a car
Porsche Design announced the edition for the 911 Turbo’s 50th anniversary. The company dates the Chronograph I’s origin to 1972 and presents the new watch as a continuation of the “sports car for the wrist” idea. Its design reference is the first 911 Turbo, a G model first presented at the 1974 Paris Motor Show.
Porsche Design says the original Turbo had a 3.0-litre six-cylinder boxer producing 260 hp. That figure describes the historic car, not the watch. The edition is limited to 500 pieces, according to the announcement.
The watch’s car-inspired details include a winding rotor styled after a Fuchs wheel and historic Turbo lettering associated with the flyback function. Porsche Shop also describes beige textile styling with a black Turbo badge. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent design assessments. In practical terms, the listed 40.8 mm case diameter and 14.15 mm height are useful reference points for fit, while the supplied bracelet and textile strap provide two different wearing options. The product listing confirms the interchangeable system, but it does not establish compatibility with third-party straps. Check fit with Porsche or an authorized source before buying a replacement.

Movement and everyday-use features
Flyback chronograph and COSC certification
The WERK 01.240 is listed as an automatic chronograph with flyback function. A flyback lets the wearer reset and restart the chronograph in one operation, a feature intended for timing consecutive intervals. Porsche Shop also specifies COSC certification; this is a manufacturer-listed certification, not a claim that this particular watch was independently tested for this article.
Water resistance and power reserve
Porsche Shop states water resistance up to 10 bar and labels it dynamic, alongside a screw-down crown and case back. This is the published rating, not a report of a hands-on water test. The listed power reserve is 48 hours; the product page does not describe independent measurement conditions.

Porsche Shop attributes this sentence to Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche: “My aim was to design a watch for 911 drivers.” The product page gives that attribution but does not independently document when or where he said it.
