IPETRONIK automotive data-acquisition modules expand a test setup by adding inputs suited to particular signal types. A system can combine modules for analog voltage or current, temperature, strain gauges, and digital pulse or encoder signals, so engineers can match the measurement hardware to the sensors and signals in a test. The exact module choice depends on the application and should be checked against its current datasheet.

What an automotive test module adds

A measurement module contributes both input channels and the circuitry or measurement modes needed to read particular signals. That distinction matters: a temperature sensor, strain gauge, analog voltage sensor, and encoder do not necessarily use interchangeable inputs. Selecting a module around the signal type helps ensure the acquisition system can connect to the sensor and capture the quantity the test requires.

IPETRONIK’s portfolio spans voltage, current, frequency, temperature, high-voltage, strain-gauge, and other measurement categories. Its portfolio includes, for example, the M-THERMO3 16 with 16 thermocouple inputs and the M-THERMO 96 with 96 universal thermocouple inputs. These are model-specific specifications, not a description of every module. See the IPETRONIK measurement-module portfolio and the selected model’s datasheet for current configuration details.

Choose the input for the signal

Analog voltage and current: M-SENS 2

The M-SENS 2 is an example of an analog measurement module. IPETRONIK lists four inputs, each selectable for voltage or current measurement, along with four sensor excitations, TEDS Class 2 support, CAN data output, and galvanic isolation. Its stated working temperature range is −40 to +125 °C, and its enclosure is rated IP67. These are manufacturer-published, model-specific specifications; verify the required input ranges and other details in the M-SENS 2 product information.

Frequency, count, PWM, and encoder signals: M-CNT3 4

For digital pulse signals, the M-CNT3 4 provides four configurable inputs for frequency, count, duration, PWM, and flow measurement. IPETRONIK lists uses including speed and angle measurement, encoders, actuator signals, and flow sensors. The manufacturer describes it as suitable for highly dynamic signal acquisition and says an M3 chain can support up to 64 modules. Those are vendor specifications and positioning, not independent performance findings.

IPETRONIK’s product page states: “With four freely configurable channels for different measurement modes, the M-CNT3 4 enables the precise acquisition of highly dynamic signals.” For details, consult the M-CNT3 4 product page.

Temperature and strain-gauge measurements

Temperature and strain-gauge signals call for modules intended for those sensors. The portfolio includes thermocouple modules, while IPETRONIK’s brake-test example uses an Mx-STG2 6 for strain-gauge measurements. A module’s input count alone is not enough to establish compatibility: check the sensor type, supported wiring and measurement configuration in the specific product documentation.

How different modules can work in one test chain

In its brake-testing example, IPETRONIK describes using an Mx-STG2 6 via X-LINK and XCP on Ethernet to acquire strain-gauge, route, and pressure-sensor values. The example also describes adding M-THERMO 2 for temperature, M-SENS2 for voltage, and M-CNT2 for counter or encoder inputs. GPS, OBD signals, vehicle control units, and other systems can be connected through plug-ins. The vendor says measurements can be stored chronologically and synchronously, then analyzed with its reporting module.

What to compare before choosing modules

  • Signal and sensor type: Identify whether the test needs analog voltage/current, thermocouple temperature, strain-gauge, or pulse/encoder inputs.
  • Input count and channel modes: Compare how many channels are required and whether each input supports the needed measurement modes.
  • Measurement rate and signal dynamics: Match the module’s documented sampling behavior and measurement capabilities to the fastest or most dynamic signal in the test.
  • Excitation and isolation: Check whether sensors require excitation and whether galvanic isolation is needed for the electrical setup.
  • Integration: Confirm compatibility with the existing data logger, communication buses, software, interfaces, and module chain.
  • Environment: Compare the selected model’s published temperature range and enclosure rating with actual test conditions; consider vibration and dust requirements as well.

IPETRONIK’s product information covers a broader system offering that includes sensors, modules, data loggers, DAQ software, cloud solutions, test-bench technology, and engineering services. Its stated temperature range of −40 to +125 °C is described as applying depending on model, not to the entire product line. Consult the IPETRONIK site and the current datasheet for the exact module and system configuration. The product pages do not establish a universal best module or a price comparison across use cases.
