The Inspired Overland Trailpeak is a side-opening rooftop tent with a current manufacturer-listed weight of 84 lb and price of $1,899 USD. Its cube-like layout aims to provide more even headroom than a wedge tent, but the internal support poles must be installed by hand. Whether it fits your vehicle depends on the combined weight and dimensions of the tent, rack and mounting hardware—not the tent’s weight alone.
What the Trailpeak is—and what “cube” means here
The Trailpeak opens sideways, rather than raising one end as a wedge-style tent does. New Atlas describes the raised roof and near-vertical walls as creating more evenly distributed headroom across the sleeping area. The top is pliable PVC tonneau-style vinyl, not a conventional rigid aluminum or fiberglass shell. The manufacturer cautions that designs, materials and specifications can change, so confirm the current details before ordering.
New Atlas reports a packed tent size of 82 × 51 × 7 inches, a sleeping floor of 78 × 48 inches and nearly four feet of headroom. These are editorially reported tent measurements. Separately, Inspired Overland lists 85.4 × 53.1 × 7.1 inches as the shipping-box dimensions; those measurements describe the package, not the tent’s sleeping space. The article’s reported floor dimensions may help you assess sleeping space, but they do not establish how comfortable it will be for particular occupants.

New Atlas reports that the tent includes a 1.5-inch foam mattress, an anti-condensation mat, interior organizers and a telescopic ladder. The manufacturer’s product and support pages are the best places to confirm the current package contents.
Will the Trailpeak fit your vehicle and roof rack?
The 84 lb figure is the tent’s listed weight; it does not include the rack and mounting hardware. Check both your vehicle’s roof-load guidance and the rack’s rating, accounting for the full mounted system. A tent being within a rack’s stated capacity does not by itself establish that the vehicle’s roof can carry it.

- Check load limits: Add the weight of the tent, rack and mounting hardware, then compare the total with the applicable vehicle and rack documentation. Follow any separate limits or conditions specified by either manufacturer.
- Measure the closed tent against the rack: Confirm the rack’s usable footprint, crossbar spacing and any overhang, as well as clearance around the vehicle. Do not treat the shipping-box dimensions as the closed tent’s dimensions.
- Use the correct mounting instructions: Inspired Overland provides separate guidance for aftermarket aluminum-extrusion crossbars and factory-style crossbars. Installation and tools are the customer’s responsibility, according to its FAQ.
- Confirm the setup for your vehicle: Without the vehicle, rack model, load limits and mounting arrangement, compatibility cannot be determined in advance.
How setup works and what the design trades off
The side-opening layout is intended to give more uniform headroom than a wedge configuration, but it involves manual steps. New Atlas reports that campers must fit the internal support poles, then pitch the rainfly and awnings using rods. The manufacturer’s help center links to a Trailpeak setup and pack-down guide; consult that guide for the current sequence rather than assuming the tent deploys like a hard-shell model.
New Atlas compares the Trailpeak’s format with the OVS Sidewinder and Roverall Denali, describing those alternatives as heavier and made with aluminum hard shells. That is the article’s comparison, not a comprehensive current market ranking. When comparing tents, consider total mounted weight, packed dimensions, usable sleeping area, headroom, deployment steps, materials, weather protection, warranty and delivered cost—not one category alone.

Floor, weather protection and condensation
Inspired Overland says its tents use a crossbar support system rather than a traditional floor panel, and describes the sleeping area as a continuous sealed unit. The absence of a conventional floor panel is part of that design; it should not be confused with an open sleeping area. The manufacturer’s FAQ addresses questions about water ingress and waterproofing, but do not assume that any fabric shelter is immune to water under every condition. Review the current care and product guidance for details relevant to the conditions in which you plan to camp.
Condensation can occur inside a rooftop tent. Inspired Overland recommends leaving at least one vent cracked open in wet or humid conditions to help manage it. Ventilation is a mitigation step, not a guarantee that condensation will not form.

Warranty, replacement parts and freight delivery
Inspired Overland summarizes its limited manufacturer warranty as covering defects in materials and workmanship, while excluding environmental factors, misuse and neglect. The FAQ does not give every duration and claim-process detail; read the current warranty policy for those terms before purchase. The manufacturer says replacement parts are available for current and legacy models, including gas struts, covers, mounting hardware, seals and hinges. Confirm that a specific part fits the Trailpeak and is currently available.
The manufacturer ships rooftop tents by less-than-truckload freight. Its FAQ instructs customers to inspect the delivery, reject a visibly damaged shipment and contact support with photos and paperwork. It warns that accepting damaged freight may limit warranty or replacement recourse. Check the current delivery instructions and shipping terms before accepting a shipment.
