The Bugatti Tourbillon pairs an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 with three electric motors and a 24 kWh battery. Bugatti lists 1,000 hp for the engine, 800 hp for the motors and 1,800 hp for the hybrid system. Those are company-published specifications, not independent test results.
What engine does the Bugatti Tourbillon have?
Its combustion engine is an 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engineered with Cosworth, according to Bugatti’s 2024 launch specifications. It replaces the Chiron’s W16 layout, but the Tourbillon is not a V16-only car: the engine works with electric motors as part of a hybrid powertrain.
Bugatti’s Chief Technical Officer, Emilio Scervo, explained the choice in the launch release: “We’re building a Bugatti, so naturally, the number of cylinders and the displacement needed to be significant.”
What Bugatti says the V16 produces
Bugatti attributes 1,000 hp at 9,000 rpm and 900 Nm of torque to the V16. The company’s 2025 technical account says the first complete V16 test engine was ready for dyno testing in 2023. That development milestone is not an independent verification of the published output figures for every production engine.

How the hybrid system combines engine and motor output
Bugatti states that the V16 produces 1,000 hp and the three electric motors contribute 800 hp, for a combined system figure of 1,800 hp. These are the company’s stated component and system outputs; they should not be read as independent measurements or as a guarantee that the components’ peak outputs occur at the same time.

Where the three electric motors sit
Two motors are mounted on the front e-axle, with one at the rear. Bugatti specifies each front motor at 250 kW. Its electrification account also identifies a 250 kW rear motor.

Front e-axle and all-wheel drive
Bugatti says the two front motors provide all-wheel drive and can direct torque to either front wheel as needed, enabling torque vectoring. The rear assembly combines the V16, an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with torque vectoring, and the rear electric motor.
Battery, electric driving and system voltage
Bugatti describes a central, T-shaped 24 kWh battery that is structural to the monocoque and enables more than 60 km of pure-electric range. The published material cited for that range does not identify a regulatory test cycle, so the figure should not be treated as an EPA, WLTP or other cycle-rated result.

Rimac Technology says it designed, engineered and integrated the battery system, e-axles and electronic control units. The supplier describes the hybrid system as 800V. Those roles and the voltage figure are Rimac’s account, published in 2025.

The long engine influenced the layout. Bugatti says it moved the V16 closer to the driver and relocated the fuel tanks to the sides to help manage the car’s wheelbase and overall length. The battery’s structural, T-shaped placement is another part of how the hybrid hardware is integrated into the vehicle rather than treated as a separate add-on.

What the published specifications do not establish
The figures above come from Bugatti and Rimac Technology, not an independent test. The cited material does not give a fuel-consumption figure, a quantified emissions comparison with the Chiron, or a numerical emissions reduction. Bugatti makes a qualitative reduced-emissions claim versus its predecessor, but the cited material does not quantify it. Nor does it provide a regulatory-cycle electric-range result.
