Infiniti QX80 vs. Cadillac Escalade: Which Luxury SUV Fits Your Needs?

The Infiniti QX80 offers a higher stated tow rating and 450-hp turbo V6, while the Cadillac Escalade counters with a 6.2L V8, standard Super Cruise listing and a 55-inch curved display. Your best choice depends on configuration and priorities.

The 2026 Infiniti QX80 and standard-length 2026 Cadillac Escalade are both three-row luxury SUVs that can seat up to eight, but they serve different priorities. Choose the QX80 if its higher stated towing limit, 450-hp turbocharged V6, and extensive camera views fit your needs. Choose the Escalade if you want its 6.2L V8, standard Super Cruise listing, and 55-inch curved display. Neither is a universal winner: the right choice depends on your trailer, seating layout, market, trim, drivetrain, and local price.

2026 Infiniti QX80 vs. 2026 Cadillac Escalade at a glance

The figures below come from manufacturer specifications unless identified as a reviewer listing. They are not the result of a back-to-back road test, and Canadian and U.S. specifications are not interchangeable.

The table combines Canadian manufacturer pages, a U.S. Cadillac page, and one U.S. review. Use it to identify questions for a local quote, not as a same-trim price or fuel-economy ranking.

Which SUV fits which buyer?

Choose the QX80 when towing capacity is the deciding factor

Infiniti lists an 8,500-pound maximum for a properly equipped QX80. That is the higher published ceiling in this comparison. The cited Canadian specification ties the claim to an electric trailer-brake controller and a weight-distribution hitch, so a vehicle without that equipment should not be assumed to qualify.

Choose the Escalade when its V8 and highway-assistance package matter more

The Escalade uses a 6.2L V8 rated at 420 hp. Cadillac’s Canadian feature page lists Super Cruise as standard and includes a three-year trial, while the QX80’s cited equipment emphasizes camera visibility and ProPILOT Assist 1.1. Connected-service terms, eligible roads, trim, and country can change the practical value of these systems.

Choose based on your actual seating and cargo routine

Both vehicles can be specified for up to eight occupants. That does not establish that they provide the same room behind the third row or the same child-seat clearance. Cadillac publishes a 120.5-cu.-ft. maximum cargo figure for the standard Escalade. Infiniti’s Canadian material reports QX80 cargo in liters for different seat configurations. Because the sources use different markets and measurement presentations, compare the vehicles with the same rows folded and the same luggage or stroller before ordering.

Powertrains: turbo V6 versus naturally aspirated V8

Infiniti QX80: 450-hp 3.5L turbocharged V6

Infiniti lists a 3.5L turbocharged V6 producing 450 hp and 516 lb-ft, paired with a nine-speed automatic. On the specification sheet, that is 30 more horsepower than the Cadillac. The figures do not prove that the QX80 accelerates faster in every situation, feels quieter, uses less fuel, or will be more durable. Vehicle weight, gearing, calibration, altitude, tire choice, payload, and testing method all affect those outcomes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The QX80’s engine specification is particularly relevant to buyers who tow near the vehicle’s rated limit, but the rating still depends on the complete configuration. Check the door-jamb payload label and the owner’s manual: passengers, cargo, hitch hardware, and trailer tongue weight all consume available capacity.

Cadillac Escalade: 6.2L V8 rated at 420 hp

Cadillac lists a 6.2L V8 with 420 hp. The larger displacement and cylinder count describe a different engineering approach from the QX80’s turbocharged V6, not a guaranteed driving-character advantage. The cited Cadillac U.S. information specifies premium gasoline for this engine. Fuel requirements and available drivetrains can vary by market, so confirm the fuel label and local manual for the vehicle you are considering.

What the horsepower gap can and cannot tell you

  • It establishes a published output difference: 450 hp for QX80 versus 420 hp for Escalade.
  • It does not establish real-world acceleration, passing performance, engine sound, ride comfort, reliability, or long-term operating cost.
  • A road test with matching payloads and tires would be needed to answer those questions; the cited material does not provide one.

Towing: compare the exact drivetrain and equipment

For the natural question, “How much can a Cadillac Escalade tow?”, Cadillac’s U.S. specification lists 8,100 lb for a standard Escalade with rear-wheel drive and 7,900 lb with four-wheel drive. Infiniti lists up to 8,500 lb for the QX80 when properly equipped. The QX80 therefore has the higher stated maximum, but only under its specified equipment conditions.

Vehicle and configuration Published maximum Qualification
QX80 8,500 lb Infiniti figure; requires the applicable equipment, including an electric trailer-brake controller and weight-distribution hitch in the cited Canadian specification
Escalade RWD 8,100 lb Cadillac U.S. figure for the standard Escalade
Escalade 4WD 7,900 lb Cadillac U.S. figure for the standard Escalade

Verify these numbers before buying

  1. Identify the exact model year, wheelbase, engine, drivetrain, axle ratio if listed, and factory tow package.
  2. Read the vehicle-specific owner’s manual and door-jamb payload label rather than relying on a model-line advertisement.
  3. Subtract passengers, luggage, hitch equipment, and trailer tongue weight from payload.
  4. Confirm that the trailer has compatible brakes and that the SUV has the required brake controller and hitch hardware.
  5. Ask the dealer for a written rating for the vehicle identification number or build sheet, especially when shopping across the United States and Canada.

Maximum trailer weight is not the same as a recommendation to tow at that limit on every trip. Trailer balance, frontal area, road grade, weather, and the condition of the tow vehicle affect safe operation.

Three-row seating and cargo: test the way your family loads

Eight seats are available, but layouts differ

The cited specifications allow up to eight occupants in both SUVs. An eight-seat arrangement generally depends on the chosen second-row bench rather than captain’s chairs, so confirm the seating diagram for the trim you want. A family that needs three child restraints, an adult in the second row, or frequent third-row access should physically install its seats before signing a purchase order.

Cargo measurements are not directly comparable here

Cadillac’s U.S. page gives the standard Escalade a maximum cargo volume of 120.5 cu. ft. Infiniti’s Canadian specifications present QX80 cargo volumes in liters according to seat configuration. The sources do not provide matching test conditions, units, or rows-folded definitions, so converting one number and declaring a winner would create false precision.

Use a practical fit check instead. Bring the largest stroller, cooler, instrument case, or sports bag you routinely carry. Measure the vertical opening and floor length with the third row in its normal position, then repeat with the third row folded. Check whether a power liftgate, seat-fold mechanism, or cargo cover interferes with your equipment.

Questions to answer at the dealership

  • Can an adult reach the third row without removing a child seat?
  • Does your chosen second-row layout leave enough shoulder room for the people who use it?
  • Where do grocery bags or luggage sit when all three rows are occupied?
  • Can the third-row head restraints and seatbacks be adjusted for your passengers?

Driver assistance and visibility technology

Escalade: Super Cruise listing and a large display

Cadillac Canada’s 2026 feature page lists Super Cruise as standard and includes a three-year trial. Availability, covered roads, account requirements, and renewal terms are market- and contract-dependent, so read the connected-services agreement for the vehicle’s country. Super Cruise is an assistance system, not an autonomous chauffeur.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Cadillac’s official feature page states: “Safety or driver assistance features are no substitute for the driver’s responsibility to operate the vehicle in a safe manner.” It also warns: “Visibility, weather and road conditions may affect feature performance.” Keep your attention on traffic, monitor the system, and be prepared to steer or brake.

QX80: camera views and ProPILOT Assist 1.1

Infiniti Canada lists 3D Around View, Invisible Hood View, and ProPILOT Assist 1.1 on the cited configuration. Around View and Invisible Hood View address low-speed placement and parking visibility; they do not change the SUV’s physical dimensions or replace a direct check for children, posts, curbs, or traffic. ProPILOT Assist 1.1 is likewise an assistance feature whose operation depends on road markings, sensors, weather, and driver attention.

Compare use cases, not feature names

If your priority is… Evidence that points toward… What to verify
Hands-on highway assistance on eligible roads Escalade, whose Canadian page lists standard Super Cruise Local availability, trial duration, subscription terms, mapped roads, and driver-monitoring requirements

Displays, audio, and cabin technology

The cited Cadillac Canada page describes a 55-inch total diagonal curved pillar-to-pillar display and an AKG 21-speaker audio system. That is a large, highly visible interface, but screen size alone does not tell you whether controls are easy to reach, glare-free, or intuitive for every driver. Spend time adjusting climate, navigation, audio, and camera functions while parked.

Infiniti Canada lists dual 14.3-inch displays for the cited QX80 configuration. Two separate panels can make driver information and central functions easier to distinguish, while the Cadillac’s curved presentation creates a single broad visual field. Which arrangement is better is a personal ergonomic judgment; compare sight lines, font size, touch targets, and physical controls in the exact trim.

Price and fuel economy: why a direct winner cannot be declared

Cadillac’s U.S. 2026 page gives the standard Escalade a starting price of $91,100. That is a U.S. base price and does not represent every drivetrain, destination charge, option, tax, or dealer fee. A reviewer lists a tested 2026 QX80 Sport 4WD at $106,955, but that is one configured vehicle, not the QX80 line’s universal MSRP and not a matched Escalade build.

16/19/17 mpg city/highway/combined Tom’s Guide listing for a 2026 QX80 Sport 4WD Treat as a reviewer’s trim-specific figure, not a universal official rating

Obtain same-day quotes for the same seating layout, drivetrain, tow equipment, and major options. Ask whether the displayed price includes destination charges and whether the advertised fuel estimate is official for your region. Premium fuel can also change running costs, even when two SUVs show similar mileage.

How to shop and configure the right vehicle

  1. Write down your real load. Count regular passengers, child seats, pets, luggage, and trailer tongue weight. This determines whether an eight-seat claim or a maximum tow number is relevant.
  2. Choose the drivetrain before comparing prices. Escalade towing differs between RWD and 4WD, and the Canadian Escalade page’s standard-4WD statement should not be transferred to U.S. vehicles.
  3. Match equipment. Add the QX80’s required trailer-brake and weight-distribution equipment when evaluating its 8,500-pound rating. Compare equivalent tow packages and safety features on the Escalade.
  4. Confirm local specifications. The Canadian QX80 page used for the 2026 evidence later rendered 2027 details. Ask for the local 2026 brochure, build sheet, or dealer documentation before relying on a number.
  5. Perform a seat-and-cargo trial. Install child seats, load your largest item, and sit in all three rows with the exact configuration you plan to buy.
  6. Test the assistance systems in a controlled drive. Try parking cameras, lane assistance, display controls, and driver-monitoring prompts. Do not evaluate them by watching a demonstration while distracted.
  7. Compare total purchase and operating costs. Include destination charges, taxes, registration, insurance, financing, premium fuel, tires, and any recurring connected-service fee.

Small ownership details worth checking

Infiniti lists three-row all-season floor mats or liners among dealer-installed options. Fit depends on model year, trim, market, and seat layout. If you buy an all-weather mat set, verify those details against the vehicle identification number and return policy; availability and fitment of third-party listings were not established here.

For either SUV, document the factory equipment at delivery. Keep the window sticker, tow-package components, owner’s manual, and connected-service terms with your records. Those documents make later warranty, towing, and subscription questions easier to resolve.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the available evidence does not establish

  • There is no comparable instrumented test proving that one SUV accelerates, rides, handles, or brakes better.
  • The specifications do not establish that either vehicle is safer, more reliable, quieter, or cheaper to own.
  • The QX80 price and fuel figures come from one reviewer-listed Sport 4WD configuration, while the Escalade figures come from a U.S. manufacturer page; they are not a controlled comparison.
  • Canadian feature and drivetrain listings cannot automatically be applied to U.S. vehicles, and vice versa.

Verdict: match the SUV to the job

The QX80 is the more logical starting point for a buyer who needs the higher published tow ceiling, values 450 hp from a turbocharged V6, or expects to use detailed parking-camera views. The Escalade is the better starting point for someone drawn to a 6.2L V8, a standard Super Cruise listing in the cited Canadian specification, or its broad curved display. Before choosing, verify the local trim, drivetrain, equipment, payload, cargo fit, fuel requirement, and connected-service terms. That configuration-specific check matters more than declaring one luxury SUV the overall winner.
