The Super Chief carries 4.0 gallons (15.1 L) of gasoline and has no EPA-style fuel-economy number on Indian Motorcycle’s 2024 specification page. Owner reports commonly fall near 40–41 mpg in some highway or stock-bike use, but reported fuel-stop distances range from about 125–130 miles before the low-fuel light to roughly 150–180 miles per tank. For trip planning, use a conservative 125–160 miles between fuel stops until your own records justify more.
The CAT 2.0 NXT is listed with battery-dependent claims: 120+ km for Komaki’s graphene-battery version and 110–140 km for its LIPO4 version. Komaki says those figures vary with rider weight, speed, road conditions and weather. A Komaki-hosted review estimates about 70–95 km in mixed family use with two riders, stop-start traffic and occasional cargo. Treat that as a planning band rather than an independently measured test. A three- to four-hour charge time is stated for the CAT, so route planning must include charging access as well as distance.

At a glance: advertised capacity versus useful real-riding distance
| Vehicle | Official capacity or claim | Real-riding evidence | Practical planning figure |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian Super Chief | 4.0 gal (15.1 L) tank; 1,811 cc Thunderstroke 111; 108 ft-lb peak torque. Indian’s 2024 specification page does not publish an EPA-style mpg figure. | Some owners report approximately 40–41 mpg, while reported low-fuel-light and tank distances vary widely. | Plan fuel stops at 125–160 miles until repeated rides establish your personal reserve. |
| Komaki CAT 2.0 NXT, graphene battery | Komaki lists 120+ km under stated test conditions. | No independently instrumented current-model range test is established. | Use the route-specific result from your own battery and riding conditions, not 120 km as a guaranteed distance. |
| Komaki CAT 2.0 NXT, LIPO4 battery | Komaki lists 110–140 km, depending on conditions. | A Komaki-hosted review reports 70–95 km for mixed use with two riders, stop-start traffic and occasional cargo. | For two-up urban or loaded trips, begin with 70–95 km as a cautious working band and validate it locally. |
These are not equivalent headline numbers. Gasoline range is constrained by a tank and a rider’s chosen reserve; electric range is constrained by battery state, temperature, load and the availability of a compatible charger. The same route can produce materially different results on different days.

Indian Super Chief mpg: what the numbers actually support
Published mechanical context
The Indian Super Chief uses a 1,811 cc Thunderstroke 111 engine and a 4.0-gallon (15.1-liter) fuel tank. Indian’s 2024 specification page lists the tank and engine details but does not provide an EPA-style combined, city or highway fuel-economy rating. That means there is no single factory mpg number to apply to every Super Chief.

At approximately 40 mpg, a completely used 4.0-gallon tank would imply about 160 miles mathematically. That calculation is a planning reference, not a promise: riders normally refuel before the tank is empty, and the low-fuel warning may appear well before the final usable gallon has been consumed.
What owner reports show
Owner accounts in the available evidence include roughly 40–41 mpg for some highway or stock-bike riding. Other owners report the low-fuel light at approximately 125–130 miles, while tank-to-tank distances around 150–180 miles are also reported. Those observations are anecdotal and may reflect different speeds, fuel reserves, routes, tire pressures, loads and modifications.
For the search phrase Indian Super Chief miles per tank, the most defensible answer is therefore a range rather than a point estimate. A rider who sees 40 mpg may calculate 160 miles, but a conservative trip plan should place the next fuel opportunity within 125–160 miles. The upper end can be exceeded on favorable rides; the lower end protects against an early warning light, strong wind or a heavy two-up load.

Why Super Chief real-world range moves so much
- Speed and wind: Sustained high speed and headwinds increase aerodynamic demand rapidly, reducing mpg compared with a steady moderate cruise.
- Payload: A passenger, luggage and touring accessories add mass and may increase drag.
- Ride mode and throttle use: Frequent acceleration and aggressive openings consume more fuel than smooth, anticipatory riding.
- Tire pressure: Underinflated tires increase rolling resistance. Check pressures when the tires are cold and use the pressure specified for the motorcycle and load.
- Terrain: Climbing, repeated elevation changes and stop-start urban traffic generally reduce economy relative to level-road cruising.
- Modifications: Windshields, luggage, intake or exhaust changes and other accessories can alter both drag and engine operating behavior.
Komaki CAT 2.0 NXT real range: separate the battery versions
Graphene-battery listing
Komaki’s CAT 2.0 Series material says its detachable fast-charging battery provides “up to 120 km range for uninterrupted performance.” The CAT 2.0 NXT graphene-battery product page lists 120+ km. “Up to” and “120+” describe an advertised ceiling under ideal conditions, not a guaranteed distance in traffic with a passenger.

LIPO4-battery listing
The CAT 2.0 NXT LIPO4 listing gives a broader 110–140 km range. The spread reflects operating conditions and the particular battery version; it should not be merged with the graphene figure. Before comparing scooters, confirm which chemistry and capacity the vehicle actually has.
Komaki’s product information warns that rider weight, speed, road conditions and weather affect actual range. Temperature, hills, frequent starts and stops, and carrying cargo can all push the result toward the low end. A detachable battery also introduces a practical constraint: the charging location must support the battery’s voltage, connector and charging equipment.
Practical two-up and cargo estimate
A Komaki-hosted review published on a 2025/2026 page estimates approximately 70–95 km for mixed family use involving two riders, stop-start traffic and occasional cargo. Because that is a manufacturer-hosted review rather than an independently documented instrumented test, use it as a cautious planning band, not a standardized benchmark. It is particularly relevant to the phrases CAT 2.0 NXT range with two riders and CAT 2.0 NXT range with load: both scenarios can sit well below the headline 120+ km claim.
For an urban trip, set a return threshold before departure. For example, if your route requires 60 km round trip, a 70–95 km working band leaves little margin at the low end once detours, hills or weather are included. Locate a compatible charging point or carry a charging plan rather than assuming the advertised maximum.

Fuel stops versus charging: which vehicle fits the route?
| Planning question | Indian Super Chief | Komaki CAT 2.0 NXT |
|---|---|---|
| Usable distance before replenishment | Conservative 125–160 miles; owner reports extend to roughly 150–180 miles per tank. | Advertised 120+ km (graphene) or 110–140 km (LIPO4); practical two-up, cargo-oriented estimate about 70–95 km. |
| Replenishment method | Liquid-fuel refueling; distance depends on nearby petrol stations and the rider’s reserve policy. | Detachable-battery charging; Komaki states a 3–4 hour charge time. Charging access and compatibility are as important as distance. |
| Load sensitivity | Passenger, luggage, wind and speed can lower mpg and bring the warning light earlier. | Rider weight, two-up use, cargo, speed, hills, weather and temperature can reduce battery distance, often more noticeably at the low end of the claim. |
| Reserve confidence | The low-fuel light is a warning, not a fixed mileage guarantee; reports place it around 125–130 miles for some riders. | Battery-state estimates can fall quickly under load. Keep a larger buffer when the route has hills, cold weather or no charging alternative. |
| Best-aligned use | Longer highway and touring trips where fuel stations are frequent. | Urban, family, commercial or cargo-oriented trips that can be completed within a validated local range and charging plan. |
The units also matter. One hundred twenty kilometers is about 75 miles, while 160 miles is about 257 kilometers. Comparing the numbers without converting units can make the CAT appear closer to the Super Chief than it is for a long highway day.
How to measure your own range without guessing
Published claims and owner anecdotes are useful starting points, but your route, load and maintenance determine the result you need. Use the following repeatable method for either vehicle.
- Start from a known full state. Fill the Super Chief to the same safe level each time. For the CAT, begin with the battery fully charged according to the manufacturer’s indicator and charging procedure.
- Reset the trip meter. Record date, odometer, ambient temperature, passenger or cargo, tire pressures, route type and average speed if available.
- Choose a reserve threshold before riding. For the Super Chief, this might be the first low-fuel warning or a personally selected buffer. For the CAT, choose a battery percentage at which you will stop rather than attempting to reach zero.
- Ride a representative route. Include the kind of hills, traffic, speed and payload you normally use. A short flat solo ride cannot validate a two-up touring plan.
- Record distance at the threshold. Note miles or kilometers when the warning or chosen battery threshold occurs, not only when the vehicle can no longer move.
- Repeat at least three comparable times. Average similar runs, but keep unusual wind, rain, extreme temperatures or detours identified rather than hiding them in the average.
- Plan from the lowest credible result. Add a charging or fuel stop before that distance. Increase the buffer for unfamiliar roads, poor weather, a passenger or a route with limited replenishment.
For the Super Chief, a fuel log also lets you calculate mpg: divide miles ridden by gallons added at the next fill. Use the same fill method and avoid treating the tank’s nominal 4.0-gallon capacity as the exact amount consumed. For the CAT, compare trip distance with the battery percentage used under the same conditions; do not extrapolate a near-empty battery from a single short ride.
Common planning mistakes and fixes
Using the advertised maximum as a guarantee
“120+ km” and “110–140 km” are condition-dependent claims. Fix the mistake by using the lower end that matches your payload and route, then confirm it with repeated rides.

Assuming the warning light gives a fixed reserve
A low-fuel light at 125–130 miles in one owner’s account does not establish the same threshold for every Super Chief. Fuel level, sensor behavior, speed and riding conditions differ. Refuel at a station that preserves your chosen buffer.
Mixing CAT battery versions
Do not apply the graphene figure to a LIPO4 vehicle or vice versa. Verify the battery chemistry, capacity and charger supplied with your specific CAT 2.0 NXT before calculating a route.
Ignoring two-up and cargo effects
The 70–95 km mixed-use estimate specifically involves two riders, stop-start traffic and occasional cargo. A solo, steady-speed result should not be used to promise the same distance with a passenger and load.
Buying an incompatible charging accessory
Before purchasing a CAT charger or replacement cable, verify voltage, connector type, battery chemistry and warranty compatibility with the vehicle. A cable that physically fits can still be electrically unsuitable.

Accessory and route-check guidance
Owners adding touring equipment to the Super Chief should verify model-year fitment before choosing a quick-release windshield or saddlebag liner/organizer. Those accessories can change aerodynamic drag or payload, so recheck your own fuel log after installation rather than carrying over a previous mpg assumption.
For the CAT, confirm where the detachable battery can be charged and whether the supplied three- to four-hour charging specification applies to your exact battery version. Check the connector and electrical ratings before every replacement purchase, and keep charging equipment protected from moisture and damage according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
What the evidence does—and does not—establish
The Super Chief’s tank size, engine displacement and torque are manufacturer specifications. The approximately 40–41 mpg figures, 125–130-mile low-fuel-light reports and 150–180-mile tank reports are owner observations rather than controlled tests. The CAT figures are manufacturer-listed ranges, while the 70–95 km mixed-use number comes from a Komaki-hosted review. No controlled, independent current-model test establishes a single official mpg for the Super Chief or a standardized real-world range for the CAT 2.0 NXT.

That distinction is important when planning a trip. Use the official figures to identify the vehicle’s design envelope, use the practical estimates to set an initial buffer, and use your own repeated logs to decide where the next fuel or charging stop belongs.
