Indian Motorcycle discontinued its FTR lineup after production reportedly ended near the end of 2024, and the motorcycles did not return for the 2025 model year. The company’s explanation, quoted in February 2025 reporting, was that the FTR represented a small part of its portfolio and that ending the line would let Indian focus investment on other platforms, products, and technologies. That is not the same as a published claim that the FTR failed: the reporting gives no FTR sales figures.
When did Indian stop making the FTR?
Cycle Gear/Common Tread reported on February 17, 2025, that Indian stopped FTR production toward the end of 2024 and did not bring the lineup back for the 2025 model year. The article said there had been no standalone public announcement; the discontinuation appeared in a footnote to a Polaris earnings presentation. Read the reporting.
Indian’s FTR web page remains online and shows FTR models, but an existing product page does not establish that the lineup is still in production or available as a current model year. Check with Indian Motorcycle or a dealer for present-day availability.
Why did Indian discontinue the FTR?
The representative’s statement, quoted by Common Tread, framed the decision as a portfolio and investment priority. Indian said it regularly reviews its lineup, described the FTR as a small part of its overall portfolio, and said discontinuing it would allow the company to focus on platforms, future products, and technologies. The statement did not provide a sales total or identify a specific sales threshold.

Common Tread’s author interpreted “small part” as evidence of weak sales. That is the reporter’s inference, not a sales result Indian disclosed in the statement. Without a published FTR sales figure in the cited reporting, it is not possible to quantify how the model performed or say that weak sales were the company’s stated reason.
What was the Indian FTR 1200?
Indian announced the FTR 1200 and FTR 1200 S on October 1, 2018, as street motorcycles inspired by its championship-winning FTR750 flat-track racer and the FTR1200 Custom concept. The launch announcement described a 1203cc liquid-cooled V-twin producing approximately 120 horsepower, an upright riding position, a trellis frame, chain drive, and flat-track-influenced styling. The lineup later included distinct trims and special editions. For example, Indian’s announcement for the 2024 model year described the FTR x 100% R Carbon as a limited edition of 400 motorcycles worldwide. It started at $18,999 at announcement and combined the R Carbon base with Öhlins suspension, a titanium Akrapovič exhaust, carbon-fiber components, and Gilles Tooling details. Can FTR owners still get parts and service?
Indian’s help-center information says legacy motorcycles will continue to receive parts, service, and technical assistance. That is the company’s stated support policy; it does not guarantee that a particular FTR component is currently in stock or available through every dealer or country. Ask an Indian dealer to check the exact part number and local availability before planning a repair.

What should you check before buying a used FTR 1200?
Discontinuation alone does not determine whether a used FTR is a good purchase. The sources cited here do not establish current used prices, so compare local examples rather than relying on the FTR x 100% R Carbon’s historical launch price.
