The Indian eFTR Hooligan 1.2 brings moto-inspired style and playful dirt-path riding, but its fixed cockpit and highly variable range call for a test ride.

The Indian eFTR Hooligan 1.2 is a playful, moto-styled electric bike that Aaron Turpen found especially enjoyable on dirt trails as well as pavement. Its fat knobby tires and easy controls suit recreational riding, but the fixed seat and cockpit can make the fit awkward, particularly for taller riders. Its advertised range is also much higher than the electric-only distance Turpen observed, so consider riding mode and conditions before treating a range figure as a promise.

What is the Indian eFTR Hooligan 1.2?

The eFTR Hooligan 1.2 pairs Indian Motorcycle branding and motorcycle-inspired styling with an electric-bike powertrain developed through a SUPER73 partnership. It is aimed at recreational and urban riding, with a compact BMX-like silhouette rather than the conventional look of a commuter bicycle. Turpen’s October 2023 review describes a bike that feels at home on pavement and dirt paths, with simple controls and a lively character.

The specifications below come from a US dealer listing for model year 2024; they are published specifications, not independent test measurements. Details can vary by model year or exact bike, so check the documentation for the specific unit you are considering.

Specification 2024 dealer listing
Battery 960 Wh
Motor power 750 W nominal, 1,200 W rated, 2,000 W peak
Assist Four pedal-assist levels plus level 0; LCD and app connection listed
Tires 20-inch GRZLY tires; 4.5 inches wide front and 5 inches rear
Brakes and suspension Tektro hydraulic disc brakes; front suspension fork
Seat height 31 inches
Listed weight limit 325 lb

Source: Indian Motorcycle of El Paso’s 2024 dealer listing. Published bike-weight figures conflict: that listing gives 84 lb, while a separate Dillon Brothers lineup page gives 73 lb. The available listings do not establish whether the difference reflects versions or measurement methods. Verify the exact model-year documentation rather than relying on one figure.

How does the eFTR Hooligan ride?

Turpen rode the Hooligan for a couple of weeks and found it particularly entertaining on dirt trails. The knobby tires give it a recreational, rough-path orientation, while the reviewer describes straightforward controls: assist buttons on the left and a thumb throttle on the right. That makes mode changes and throttle use uncomplicated in his account.

Despite the front fork, Turpen reports little meaningful suspension and recommends standing on the pedals when crossing rough patches. The tire size and his experience support dirt-path use, not a blanket claim that the bike is suitable for every off-road route. Rough, technical terrain can demand more suspension and control than this setup provides.

Is the Indian eFTR Hooligan comfortable?

Fit is the biggest caveat in the review. Turpen says the handlebars, pedals, and seat are not adjustable, and at 6 ft 3 in he found himself hunched over with his knees high. The 31-inch listed seat height does not tell the whole story: the fixed relationship among the seat, pedals, and handlebars determines whether the riding position works for an individual.

Try the bike in person if possible, especially if you are tall or have mobility limitations. The reviewer specifically warns that its position may be a poor fit for riders with mobility constraints. A test sit or ride is more useful here than assuming the motorcycle-inspired appearance means a relaxed, adjustable cockpit.

How far can the eFTR Hooligan 1.2 go on a charge?

The 2024 dealer listing claims 40-plus miles in throttle-only operation at 20 mph and 75-plus miles with class-1 pedal assist. Those are listing claims whose real-world results depend on mode and riding conditions, not independently verified range figures. The 960 Wh battery capacity alone cannot predict how far a particular rider will travel.

Turpen’s account was substantially different for electric-only riding: he reports roughly 13 miles, while pedal-assist riding exceeded 50 miles in his conditions. These are his observations, not a controlled range test, and should not be treated as guaranteed minimums or maximums. Riding style, terrain, rider and cargo weight, speed, and assist selection all affect practical range.

How long does the battery take to charge?

The dealer listing gives a charge time of 6–7 hours with the supplied 3 A charger. An optional 5 A charger is listed at 3–4 hours. Turpen likewise says the supplied 3 A charger filled the battery in under seven hours. Treat both the listing times and the review observation as estimates rather than a promise for every charge cycle.

What should buyers check before riding?

  • Confirm fit: The cockpit and seat are described as non-adjustable, so establish that the riding position works for you.
  • Plan for the bike’s weight: Published figures conflict between 73 lb and 84 lb, and the sources do not resolve why. Confirm the exact unit’s weight if lifting, transporting, or storing it is important.
  • Bring a helmet: The dealer listing says a helmet is sold separately and includes a helmet-use safety notice. Choose a properly fitting helmet that meets the rules where you ride.
  • Check local e-bike rules: The listing says classification varies with mode and directs buyers to check state and local rules. Permitted roads, trails, and requirements depend on jurisdiction and how the bike is configured or operated; there is no universal legality answer.

Is the eFTR Hooligan 1.2 worth considering?

For a rider seeking a distinctive, recreational e-bike for pavement and dirt paths, the Hooligan’s character, knobby tires, and simple controls make a strong case. Its practical drawbacks are equally important: fit is fixed, suspension is limited according to the reviewer, and real-world range can differ sharply from the dealer’s claims. Make the decision around your own fit and intended routes, and verify exact model-year specifications before buying.
