It is not an independently measured result or evidence that the car will travel 620 miles in ordinary driving. The battery terminology is also disputed: IM marketed it as solid-state, while New Atlas described it as semi-solid because it retains liquid electrolyte.
Which car is the claim about?
It is the top-trim, China-market IM Motors L6 Max Lightyear Edition, announced in 2024. New Atlas reported its April 2024 price as ¥330,000 (about US$45,600 at the time). That headline price is historical and is not a current US price or evidence that the vehicle is sold in the United States. New Atlas’s April 11, 2024 report gives the trim and price.
Prices varied by date and offer. IM’s May 2024 launch announcement listed a range of RMB 219,900–345,900, while its launch-benefit offer range was RMB 199,900–325,900. Those are China-market launch figures, not a single fixed price for the Lightyear trim. IM Motors’ May 2024 launch announcement describes the launch pricing; the April report gives the earlier ¥330,000 top-trim figure.
Does the L6 really have a 620-mile range?
IM announced more than 1,000 km of CLTC range for the Lightyear battery; New Atlas rendered that claim as 620 miles. CLTC is the stated rating cycle, not a road test. The cited launch materials do not establish how far this L6 travels in everyday conditions, nor do they provide an independently measured real-world range. IM’s March 25, 2024 announcement states the claimed range, and New Atlas reports the 620-mile conversion.

Is the battery actually solid-state?
The wording depends on whose description is being used. IM called the pack an “ultra-fast-charging solid-state battery” in its March 2024 announcement. New Atlas described it as semi-solid, explaining that solid material is suspended in a liquid electrolyte. The available descriptions therefore do not support presenting it as an undisputed battery with a fully solid electrolyte. IM’s announcement records the manufacturer’s label; New Atlas’s report explains its semi-solid characterization.
“Solid-state” is often used to distinguish battery designs by electrolyte composition, but the label alone does not establish a pack’s safety, durability, or performance. The cited launch reporting does not provide independent test evidence on those questions.

What capacity and charging performance were announced?
IM announced a battery pack above 130 kWh and a near-900 V platform. New Atlas reported the flagship pack as 130 kWh and relayed a claimed 400 km (249 miles) of added range in 12 minutes when connected to a sufficiently fast charger. That is a launch-era charging claim, not an independently verified charging test; the stated result depends on charger capability and conditions. IM’s March 2024 announcement gives the capacity and platform description, while New Atlas reports the 12-minute claim.
For home charging, the L6 owner’s manual documents use of an 11 kW AC wired charging station/device and gives charge times for specified battery variants. That specification should not be taken as proof that every Lightyear-market configuration, electrical supply, or country installation supports the same setup; check the exact vehicle’s manual and local electrical requirements. Was the Lightyear Edition produced and delivered?
IM announced the L6’s formal launch in May 2024 and said nationwide customer deliveries in China began June 12, 2024. Those announcements establish launch and delivery timing in China, not 2026 stock, ongoing production, or availability in export markets.
