Hyundai has confirmed an India-specific, A-segment electric SUV for launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company has not yet said that it is the INSTER or CASPER Electric, and it has not announced the Indian model’s price, range, battery, or name.
What Hyundai has confirmed for India
In an August 26, 2026 announcement, Hyundai Motor Company said India would receive “an all-new electric SUV in the fourth quarter.” The company also described it as an all-new A-segment SUV EV, “Localized and designed for India,” with next-generation infotainment and Level 2 assisted driving technology. Q4 2026 means October through December. Hyundai’s announcement establishes that launch window, but not a specific launch day, booking date, or when deliveries will begin.
Is Hyundai bringing the INSTER or CASPER Electric to India?
Hyundai has not identified the India-bound SUV as the INSTER or CASPER Electric. The INSTER is Hyundai’s global A-segment sub-compact EV, unveiled on June 27, 2024; in Korea, it is badged CASPER Electric. Hyundai says the global model evolved from Korea’s petrol CASPER, with a longer body and wheelbase. Those details describe the INSTER’s lineage, not the identity of the India model. It is therefore too early to call the forthcoming Indian SUV an INSTER derivative or a battery-powered CASPER. Hyundai could clarify a relationship later, but the announcements cited here do not establish one.
What Autocar India reports about the car
Autocar India reported in September 2026 that Hyundai’s made-in-India compact EV had previously been slated to debut by March 2027, but that HMIL managing director and CEO Tarun Garg told its sister publication it would debut earlier, by the end of 2026. The same report says the car will use Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform, initially with Svolt cells, with a planned later shift to Exide. These are reported development and sourcing details, not specifications in Hyundai’s announcement. Cell-supplier plans can also change before production.
Why the global INSTER’s range is not an India estimate
Hyundai’s 2024 global INSTER announcement lists a 42 kWh standard battery and an optional 49 kWh long-range battery. It gives motor outputs of 71.1 kW (97 PS) for the standard version and 84.5 kW (115 PS) for the long-range version; both are listed at 147 Nm of torque. Those are manufacturer-stated figures for the global INSTER, not India-certified specifications for Hyundai’s forthcoming SUV. Hyundai has not announced the India model’s battery capacity, motor output, or range, so the global figures should not be used to predict its real-world or certified distance.
Hyundai describes the INSTER’s extended dimensions as a way to improve interior space and luggage capacity while retaining city maneuverability, placing it between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment models. That positioning is Hyundai’s description of the global vehicle; it does not establish the India model’s dimensions or cabin space.

What remains unknown about price, charging and equipment
Hyundai’s India announcement does not state the following details for the new SUV:
- Final model name or confirmed link to the INSTER/CASPER Electric
- Price, booking date, or delivery schedule
- Indian battery capacity, certified range, motor output, or battery warranty
- Charging rate, connector type, or a home-charger offer
- Full safety and convenience equipment list
Hyundai India says the myHyundai app provides access to more than 30,000 EV charging points in India and lists a Jio-bp charging-services partnership. What to check when Hyundai reveals the full model
When Hyundai publishes the Indian specifications, these are the details that will make a meaningful comparison with other small EVs:
