A Hyundai Santa Cruz N would make an appealing performance pickup, but Hyundai has not announced one in the official materials reviewed. The idea is best treated as a what-if: the production Santa Cruz already has a turbocharged engine, while a true N version would need its own performance engineering—not just an N badge.
Has Hyundai announced a Santa Cruz N?
No Santa Cruz N has been announced in the Hyundai materials reviewed. Hyundai presents the Santa Cruz as a production pickup and lists N and N Line vehicles separately; its performance lineup includes models such as the Elantra N and IONIQ 5 N, not a Santa Cruz N. Hyundai’s 2025 model-year summary and its performance lineup provide that distinction.
That makes the title a wish, not a product announcement. There is no confirmed Santa Cruz N price, release date, power figure, drivetrain, or specification to report.
What the production Santa Cruz brings to the idea
The real truck supplies a plausible starting point. Hyundai’s March 2024 announcement for the 2025 Santa Cruz lists a standard 2.5-liter direct-injection four-cylinder rated at 191 horsepower and 181 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The available 2.5-liter turbo makes 281 horsepower and 311 lb-ft, paired with an eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. Hyundai also said the turbo powertrain gained a tow mode for 2025. Hyundai’s 2025 Santa Cruz announcement is the source for those model-year specifications.

Those numbers describe the production turbo Santa Cruz, not an N model. The XRT’s all-terrain tires, front tow hooks, and improved off-road capability likewise belong to a production trim, not a performance variant. Calling the turbo truck an N would blur the difference between a higher-output engine and a distinct, engineered performance model.
Hyundai’s U.S. page identifies the Santa Cruz as a four-door pickup first released in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Current availability and specifications can vary by model year and market, so consult the current local model page and inventory for present-day buying details. Hyundai’s 2026 U.S. Santa Cruz page gives the current model-year reference in the materials reviewed.

What would make a Santa Cruz N more than a badge?
The appeal is easy to imagine: a compact pickup with the Santa Cruz’s car-like cabin and a sharper, more engaging road character. But a credible N version would need more than the existing turbo engine with different trim. Hyundai has not published any Santa Cruz N engineering plan, so these are expectations for the hypothetical, not predictions of its specifications.
- Performance that can be repeated: A convincing N model would need power delivery and cooling suited to sustained spirited driving, rather than relying on an unverified horsepower target.
- Chassis tuned for the mission: Suspension, steering, brakes, and tires would need to work together on pavement while retaining the practical ride height and utility expected of a pickup.
- Clear drivetrain choices: Buyers would need to know how power reaches the wheels and how the system behaves in ordinary driving. No configuration has been announced.
- Utility that remains useful: A performance setup should not erase the truck’s everyday role. Payload, towing, ride comfort, and bed usefulness would matter alongside acceleration.
Until Hyundai provides details, assigning the hypothetical a power figure, acceleration time, transmission, or launch date would be guesswork.

How it would fit alongside Hyundai’s future pickup plans
Hyundai’s 2025 CEO Investor Day roadmap says the company plans to launch its first mid-size pickup in North America before 2030. The statement connects that opportunity with the experience and brand presence gained since the Santa Cruz launched in 2021, but it does not name the future truck or announce a Santa Cruz N. Hyundai’s 2025 CEO Investor Day roadmap describes a separate corporate plan, not a confirmation of this imagined compact performance pickup.
Where the Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick differ today
For shoppers choosing an actual compact pickup, the useful comparison is between the production Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick—not between a real truck and an unannounced N trim. An Associated Press report summarizing Edmunds’ comparison describes the Santa Cruz as more comfortable and SUV-like, while the Maverick is more conventional as a pickup. It also notes that their towing and hauling strengths differ, making intended use central to the choice. The June 4, 2025 comparison report is a useful frame for weighing cabin character and utility.
