The ad featured the 2016 Hyundai Genesis and its Blue Link Car Finder feature, which Hart’s character uses to keep tabs on his daughter and her date.
What happens in Hyundai’s “First Date” commercial?
In the comic premise, Hart plays a father who tracks his daughter and her date using the Genesis’s Blue Link Car Finder feature. Hyundai described the spot as a story built around the car technology; the plot is part of the advertiser’s account of its own commercial.
Which Hyundai is in the ad?
The featured vehicle is the premium 2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan. Hyundai identified Blue Link Car Finder as the technology at the center of the joke. The 2016 campaign announcement establishes what the ad promoted then; it does not confirm whether that feature is available today, which vehicles currently support it, or its present service terms.
When did it air, and who made it?
Hyundai scheduled “First Date” for the pre-kickoff slot at Super Bowl 50. The Los Angeles Times reported that it aired just before kickoff on CBS. Hyundai named INNOCEAN Worldwide as its agency of record.

The ad was part of Hyundai’s four-commercial Super Bowl Sunday campaign, announced during the automaker’s first year as an official NFL sponsor. The campaign included the 2017 Elantra and 2016 Genesis.
Did “First Date” win the Super Bowl Ad Meter?
Yes. Hyundai announced on Feb. 8, 2016, that “First Date” won USA TODAY’s Ad Meter, beating 63 other Super Bowl 50 commercials. The Los Angeles Times reported an average score of 6.91 from 19,000 registered panelists. Those figures describe the Ad Meter panel, not a vote by every Super Bowl viewer.

What Hyundai said about the campaign
In the Feb. 4, 2016 announcement, then-Hyundai Motor America chief marketing officer Dean Evans said the company wanted to use “a unique storytelling approach and A-list talent” to entertain fans while showcasing vehicle technology. That statement explains Hyundai’s stated intent; it is not independent evidence of audience reaction.
