Hyundai also advertises 28.40 km/kg in CNG mode and 47 paise/km maintenance cost. Both are manufacturer claims, not guaranteed results for every taxi. Use the figures as reference points, then build a quote and operating budget for your route, fuel price, annual kilometres and local compliance costs.

What is the Hyundai PRIME SD?
The PRIME SD is Hyundai’s commercial taxi sedan powered by a petrol-CNG bi-fuel engine and paired with a five-speed manual transmission. It is intended for licensed taxi use rather than ordinary private-car registration. Hyundai lists a 1,197 cc four-cylinder engine, with separate output figures for petrol and CNG operation.
The official PRIME SD product page describes the equipment, capacity, warranty and manufacturer running-cost claims. The model’s commercial positioning matters because the purchase process includes registration class, insurance and permit questions that do not apply in the same way to a private passenger car.

Hyundai PRIME SD price: advertised amount versus on-road cost
What ₹6,89,900 means
Hyundai’s 2026 brochure displays “PRIME SD price ₹6 89 900*”. Treat ₹6,89,900 as the advertised starting price shown in the brochure, not as a guaranteed current offer or a city-specific on-road quote. Hyundai’s product page warns that prices and variants can change without prior notice and directs buyers to confirm the current amount with the nearest dealer.
The advertised figure does not automatically include every cost needed to put a commercial taxi on the road. Registration and road tax, commercial insurance, permit-related proceedings, vehicle-location tracking equipment, FASTag, accessories and other statutory or dealer charges can increase the payable amount.
A dated Chennai example
A Kun Hyundai price list effective 14 January 2026 listed an ex-showroom price of ₹6,89,900 and a Chennai on-road total of ₹8,67,062. This is a dated, local illustration, not today’s nationwide price and not a quote for another state. The document also says that prices and statutory levies prevailing at delivery apply.

The list is useful because it shows how a ₹6.89 lakh advertised price can become an ₹8.67 lakh delivered total. It should not be used to estimate a different state’s registration tax, permit fee or insurance premium.

How to request a usable quote
Ask the dealer for a written, itemised commercial-taxi quote with the quote date and registering address. Require these lines:
- Ex-showroom price and the exact PRIME SD variant.
- Road tax, registration and any commercial registration surcharge.
- Commercial motor insurance, including the policy type, insurer, insured-declared value and add-ons.
- Taxi permit or taxi-proceedings charges and any agent or documentation fee.
- Vehicle location tracking device (VLTD) and panic-button equipment, where required.
- FASTag, accessories and audio or infotainment packages.
- Optional extended warranty, finance processing, hypothecation and other add-ons.
Ask which lines are legally mandatory, which are Hyundai-installed equipment and which are optional dealer products. Compare written quotes only when they use the same registering location, commercial class, insurance cover and accessory content.
PRIME SD CNG mileage and running-cost claims
28.40 km/kg is a Hyundai claim
Hyundai’s brochure and product page state 28.40 km/kg for CNG fuel efficiency. The brochure labels it “Fuel efficient mileage PRIME SD: 28.40 km/kg.” This is a manufacturer-stated figure; the available material does not establish an independent road test or guarantee that a taxi will achieve it in traffic.
Actual fuel consumption can change with congestion, average speed, idling while waiting for passengers, air-conditioning use, passenger and luggage load, tyre pressure, driving style, route gradients, vehicle condition and the quality or pressure of the CNG supply. A fleet that spends long periods stationary can record a materially different result from a steady test route.

47 paise/km maintenance claim
Hyundai advertises a low maintenance cost of 47 paise per kilometre. Treat this as Hyundai’s claim, not as an independently validated ownership guarantee. The published material does not provide a complete calculation showing which scheduled services, consumables, tyres, repairs or downtime costs are included.
For your own budget, record kilometres and invoices from the first day. Separate scheduled service, unscheduled repair, tyre, battery, insurance, permit, fitness and cleaning costs. This produces a useful fleet-specific cost per kilometre instead of assuming the brochure figure applies to every operating pattern.
A practical cost-per-kilometre formula
Use this worksheet each month:
- Fuel cost per kilometre: divide the month’s CNG and petrol spend by kilometres driven.
- Service and repair cost per kilometre: divide paid workshop invoices and consumables by kilometres driven.
- Compliance cost per kilometre: add insurance, permit, fitness, taxes and tracking-device renewals for the period, then divide by kilometres.
- Total operating cost per kilometre: add the three results. Keep loan principal, interest and driver wages as separate lines if you want to measure both vehicle operating cost and full business cost.
Do not project annual savings from 28.40 km/kg or 47 paise/km without your expected monthly distance, local CNG price, petrol use, insurance premium and a clearly defined comparison vehicle.

These are manufacturer specifications. The lower CNG-mode output is relevant when planning loaded, air-conditioned or uphill operation: acceleration and overtaking response can differ from petrol mode, so arrange a meaningful test drive with the intended passenger and luggage load.

The official page identifies a 22.96 cm (9-inch) infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, plus a rear camera, as an accessory option. No price for that option is established here, so have it itemised separately rather than assuming it is included in the base on-road figure.
Before delivery, verify the physical location of the CNG cylinder, tracking-device activation, panic-button operation, spare-wheel arrangement, warranty registration and the accessory list against the signed invoice.

Warranty and roadside assistance
Hyundai advertises standard warranty coverage of three years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first, along with three years of roadside assistance. An optional extended warranty is advertised for up to five years or 180,000 km. Availability, pricing and eligibility can vary, so confirm the offer in writing before adding it to the purchase.

Ask the dealer to explain the warranty start date, scheduled-service compliance requirements, exclusions for commercial or high-mileage use, treatment of CNG components, roadside-assistance limits and whether coverage transfers if the taxi is sold. Keep every service invoice and job card; commercial use can accumulate kilometres quickly and may reach the distance limit before the time limit.
Commercial registration, permit and compliance costs
Hyundai’s taxi-buying guidance identifies four compliance areas to plan for: commercial registration, a valid taxi permit, commercial insurance and periodic fitness certification. The relevant authority, process and fee depend on the state and registering office.
- Confirm registration class: tell the dealer that the vehicle will operate as a commercial taxi and verify the documents required for that class.
- Check permit scope: establish whether the intended work is city-only, state-wide or inter-state and obtain the corresponding permit information from the local Regional Transport Office.
- Arrange commercial insurance: obtain a policy quote that reflects taxi use, seating capacity, declared value and any required add-ons.
- Plan fitness certification: ask the RTO how often the vehicle must be inspected and what records or equipment must be presented.
- Verify tracking and safety equipment: confirm whether the local authority requires an approved VLTD, panic buttons, signage or other taxi equipment.
Fees and procedures are not uniform nationwide. Do not copy the ₹95,767 Chennai road-tax/registration line or the ₹7,000 taxi-proceedings line into another state’s budget. Obtain current figures from the local RTO, dealer and insurer, and retain receipts for every statutory payment.
What to inspect before signing or taking delivery
Documents and money
- Written quote with date, variant and registering address.
- Separate ex-showroom, tax, registration, insurance, permit, VLTD, FASTag and accessory lines.
- Confirmation of which charges are mandatory and which can be declined.
- Commercial insurance schedule and policy wording.
- Warranty and roadside-assistance terms, including the distance limits.
- Delivery timeline and the rule that statutory prices prevailing at delivery may apply.
Vehicle and operation
- Match the vehicle identification number and CNG-system details to the invoice and registration paperwork.
- Test petrol-to-CNG changeover, warning lights, air-conditioning, rear vents, power windows, parking sensors and panic buttons.
- Check that the tracking device is installed and activated as promised.
- Drive in both fuel modes with representative load; note clutch feel, braking, low-speed response and overtaking performance.
- Record the odometer, fuel level, tyre condition and delivery date for future cost tracking.
How to compare another taxi sedan fairly
A price comparison is meaningful only when both vehicles are quoted for the same city and date, registered in the same commercial class and covered by equivalent insurance. Align the ex-showroom amount, road tax, permit proceedings, VLTD or other required equipment, FASTag, accessories, warranty and finance charges before drawing a conclusion.
Compare measured business outcomes rather than brochure numbers alone: fuel cost per kilometre on your route, service availability, downtime, payload and passenger comfort, warranty distance, permit eligibility and the time required to obtain fitness certification. No comparable rival quote is established here, so a dealer-to-dealer comparison is required for a current decision.
Bottom line for a PRIME SD buyer
Budget from the advertised ₹6,89,900 only as a starting point. The dated Chennai example demonstrates an ₹8,67,062 on-road total after local tax, insurance, tracking, accessories and taxi proceedings, but your city can differ substantially. The 28.40 km/kg mileage and 47 paise/km maintenance figures are useful Hyundai benchmarks, not promises. A sound purchase decision comes from a current itemised commercial quote, verified local permit and fitness requirements, and a running-cost log based on your actual kilometres and fuel prices.
