Hyundai’s 2020 POREST is a Porter II-based Korean-market camper whose rear “Smart Room” extends the living space by 800 mm when safely parked. Its flexible sleeping layout and optional washroom equipment make it a compact motorhome concept in practice—but it is a historical model, not the later STARIA Camper Concept.
What is the Hyundai POREST?
Hyundai’s heritage record identifies the Porter II POREST as a July 2020 model. New Atlas published the matching “Hyundai goes camping with expanding mini-motorhome” article on October 15, 2020. The POREST is a camper built on the Porter II, for the Korean market; Hyundai’s descriptions of its features are manufacturer claims, not independent test results. Hyundai’s POREST heritage record and its October 2020 coverage document the vehicle and date.

How does the expanding room work?
Hyundai says the rear Smart Room extends the cabin by 800 mm when the vehicle is safely parked. The added space can serve as a multipurpose area or a bedroom for two adults. It is a parked-use feature, not an extension intended for driving. Hyundai Motor Group’s POREST feature description explains the mechanism and intended use.

Convertible second-row seats
The second-row seating can be arranged as travel seats, a couch, or a bed. These configurations give the interior more than one sleeping or lounging arrangement; the feature description does not establish a single total sleeping capacity for every configuration.
What camper facilities does Hyundai describe?
The POREST feature set includes a kitchen and sleeping space, with shower booth and restroom options. Hyundai also describes a rear storage area and an integrated controller for camping functions. The shower and restroom are optional equipment, so their presence should not be assumed on every vehicle or trim. Hyundai’s feature overview describes these facilities.

No. The POREST is the 2020 Porter II-based camper; STARIA Camper is a separate, later concept. Hyundai’s STARIA concept materials describe features such as a pop-up roof and solar equipment, which should not be attributed to the POREST. Hyundai’s STARIA Camper Concept page covers that distinct vehicle.

In January 2026, Hyundai said the STARIA Camper Concept was being evaluated at CMT and that a production version would require approval. Its press material describes a 520 W solar panel and up to 2.6 kWh per day, based on five hours of sunlight per day. Those figures apply to STARIA Camper Concept—not POREST—and describe the stated sunlight assumption rather than a guaranteed daily yield. Hyundai’s January 2026 announcement gives the concept’s status and solar qualification.
