This comparison uses the base CT5, not the CT5-V or CT5-V Blackwing. Both nameplates also offer all-wheel-drive configurations, so check the specific car’s drivetrain if rear-wheel drive is a requirement.
Which models are being compared?
“CT5” can mean three substantially different cars. The main comparison here is the 2026 base CT5 against the 2026 BMW M2. Cadillac’s CT5-V and CT5-V Blackwing are separate performance models, not upgrades whose specifications can be applied to the base sedan.

The figures below are manufacturer-published US-market information for 2026, except where the V-Series section explicitly identifies 2025 brochure figures. The comparison is not a same-equipment price match: BMW’s displayed amount is for a configured car, while Cadillac’s is a starting MSRP.

| Specification | 2026 Cadillac CT5 (base) | 2026 BMW M2 |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturer-listed price | $49,200 starting MSRP (Cadillac, US model page) | $69,500 MSRP as built for the configuration displayed on BMW’s US model page |
| Engine and output | 2.0-liter turbo inline-four; 237 hp and 258 lb-ft; premium gasoline | 3.0-liter inline-six; 473 hp and 443 lb-ft for the rear-drive model |
| Drive layout | RWD; AWD available | RWD or M xDrive AWD |
| Manufacturer 0–60 mph estimate | 6.6 seconds for the RWD model | Not stated in the cited 2026 BMW pages |
| Seating and space | Five passengers; 37.9 inches rear legroom | Not stated in the cited 2026 BMW pages |
| Cargo volume | 11.9 cu. ft. | Not stated in the cited 2026 BMW pages |
Cadillac’s figures come from its 2026 CT5 model page and CT5 specifications; BMW’s from its 2026 M2 model page and technical data. Prices are manufacturer website figures, not dealer quotes or a controlled comparison of identically equipped cars. Options, destination charges, taxes, dealer pricing, selected trim and configuration can change the final cost; check current listings and build details before buying.

Is the CT5 faster than the M2?
On the published output figures, the M2 is in a different performance bracket from the base CT5: BMW lists 473 hp, compared with Cadillac’s 237 hp. The CT5’s manufacturer 0–60 mph estimate is 6.6 seconds for the RWD model. The cited BMW pages do not provide a comparable 0–60 figure, so that estimate alone does not establish a measured head-to-head result.
Horsepower and a manufacturer estimate are specifications, not a substitute for comparable independent testing. No claim about real-world acceleration or which car handles better follows from these figures alone.

Which is better for daily driving?
Choose the CT5 if space and sedan practicality come first
The CT5 has five-passenger seating, 37.9 inches of rear legroom and 11.9 cu. ft. of cargo volume, making its practical advantage clear for carrying rear-seat passengers or their luggage. Its lower starting MSRP may also suit shoppers who want a premium sedan without moving to a higher-performance Cadillac trim. The cited specifications establish the space and price differences; they do not establish a ride-comfort or ownership-cost advantage.

Choose the M2 if you want a compact, higher-output coupe
The M2 pairs a 3.0-liter inline-six with 473 hp in a coupe body. That combination makes it the more performance-focused choice by body style and listed output, rather than by any firsthand road test here. It gives up the CT5’s documented five-seat, rear-legroom and cargo-capacity case; the cited BMW pages do not state comparable space figures.

Is the BMW M2 worth the higher price?
The answer depends on what the extra outlay buys for you. The BMW page shows an M2 at $69,500 MSRP as built, while Cadillac lists the base CT5 at a $49,200 starting MSRP. Those numbers are not directly equivalent: one is a configured BMW price and the other is Cadillac’s entry price. Compare actual window stickers and equipment on the specific cars, then decide whether the M2’s much higher listed output and coupe format matter more than the CT5’s sedan space and lower entry figure.
Should you compare the M2 with a CT5-V or Blackwing?
If you are shopping for a high-performance Cadillac rather than a comfortable base sedan, compare the M2 with the appropriate V-Series model. Cadillac’s 2025 V-Series brochure lists these figures; they are not verified 2026 specifications.
Rank #4
| 2025 Cadillac model | Engine and output | Manufacturer 0–60 mph figure | Transmission |
|---|---|---|---|
| CT5-V | 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6; 360 hp and 405 lb-ft | 4.6 seconds | Ten-speed automatic |
| CT5-V Blackwing | 668 hp and 659 lb-ft | 3.4 seconds | Six-speed manual; optional ten-speed automatic |
These are 2025 brochure specifications, not a direct test against the 2026 M2. Cadillac’s brochure identifies the models and figures in its 2025 CT5-V information and 2025 CT5-V Blackwing information. A fair purchase comparison should match model year, trim, drivetrain and equipment rather than treating “CT5” as one performance level.
Does choosing the CT5 or M2 guarantee rear-wheel drive?
No. Rear-wheel drive is available on the base CT5, but Cadillac also offers AWD on the regular CT5 and CT5-V. BMW offers the M2 with RWD or M xDrive AWD. Because the nameplate alone does not identify the drive layout, confirm the drivetrain on the window sticker or with the seller before you buy.

How to make the choice
- Prioritize rear passengers, five seats and useful trunk space: start with the CT5.
- Prioritize substantially greater listed power and a compact coupe: start with the M2.
- Want a performance Cadillac: compare the M2 with a CT5-V or Blackwing, using matching model years and their separate specifications.
- Require RWD: verify the exact configuration; both nameplates also have AWD versions.
