The IONIQ 4 is one possibility raised in an automotive report, but the IONIQ 1 is another; neither name is official. Hyundai’s product roadmap includes several upcoming electric SUVs, but it does not connect any of them to the pictured prototype.
What is known about the test vehicle?
Electrek reported on October 5, 2026, that a disguised Hyundai SUV had been spotted testing in South Korea. The vehicle appears to have a more upright, conventional SUV profile than the IONIQ 3, according to the report. Electrek’s report also notes that a prototype photographed in March looked similar and bore an “HE1” test tag.
That tag is a reported clue, not confirmation of a retail model name. The report floats both IONIQ 4 and IONIQ 1 as possible identifications, but Hyundai has not announced that the test vehicle is either one.
Does Hyundai’s roadmap point to an IONIQ 4 or IONIQ 1?
No. Hyundai’s August 26, 2026, CEO Investor Day roadmap lists three relevant SUV categories: an A-segment electric SUV for India, a global B-segment SUV, and a B-segment SUV for Europe. It does not name these products IONIQ 4 or IONIQ 1, or identify one as the South Korean prototype.

Hyundai Motor India separately says its all-new electric SUV, designed and localized for India, is planned for the fourth quarter of 2026. The company has announced next-generation infotainment and Level 2 assisted driving for that vehicle, but has not linked it to the prototype seen in South Korea. Hyundai Motor India’s announcement describes the India project, not the identity of the test vehicle.
Hyundai’s China IONIQ plan covers future medium and large vehicles, including SUVs and coupes with battery-electric and extended-range powertrains. It likewise does not establish what the smaller South Korean prototype is. Hyundai’s China announcement is about that market plan.

IONIQ 4 or IONIQ 1: what can be compared?
The available clues do not distinguish the two proposed names conclusively. The report describes an upright SUV shape and cites the HE1 test tag, but does not establish a retail name. Hyundai’s official roadmap confirms SUV development across several segments and markets without attaching either name to this vehicle.

What has Hyundai announced about its upcoming launches?
Hyundai Motor Company said in 2026 that it plans more than 100 global vehicle launches or refreshes by 2030, including more than 18 entries into new products and market segments. The company’s August 2026 release gives regional launch-activity counts of 58 for North America, 49 for Korea, 41 for Europe, 26 for India, and 22 for China. Those regional figures sum to more than 100 because they count activity by region; they should not be read as a single count of distinct global models. Hyundai’s roadmap announcement provides the figures.

What remains unconfirmed?
For the rumored South Korean vehicle, the available reports and Hyundai announcements do not establish its production name, dimensions or segment, powertrain, battery, range, price, launch date, or sales markets. Those details should not be inferred from the IONIQ 4 or IONIQ 1 speculation. The official roadmap confirms upcoming SUV programs, not the identity or specifications of the photographed vehicle.
