Expect similar family-hauling priorities and an electric-SUV focus, while seating, range, equipment and other details depend on the IONIQ 9’s market and trim.
What does the Kia EV9 tell you about the Hyundai IONIQ 9?
The EV9 is a helpful point of comparison because both vehicles are three-row electric SUVs, and Hyundai identifies E-GMP as the IONIQ 9’s platform. That supports expectations about the IONIQ 9’s broad purpose: carrying families in an electric vehicle designed around three rows.
It does not establish that the two SUVs share every component, calibration, feature or specification. Hyundai presents the IONIQ 9 as its own vehicle, with a distinct design and cabin identity. Treat the EV9 as context, then check the IONIQ 9’s own specifications for the market and trim you are considering. Hyundai’s global launch information describes its design and E-GMP foundation.
10 things to expect from the Hyundai IONIQ 9
1. Three rows aimed at family use
Hyundai markets the IONIQ 9 as a three-row electric SUV. That makes passenger capacity and family utility central to its appeal, but the phrase “three rows” does not by itself tell you how comfortable each row will be for your passengers or how much cargo space remains when all seats are occupied.

- CABLE LENGTH: Choose from 30 feet, 40 feet, and 50 foot heavy-duty charging cables that provides ample reach from your power outlet to the vehicle's charging port
Seat count varies: Hyundai describes six- and seven-seat configurations, depending on trim and market. In the United States, the S trim’s product page describes a seven-passenger bench configuration. Check the exact vehicle’s seating layout rather than assuming every IONIQ 9 has the same arrangement. Hyundai USA’s IONIQ 9 page provides U.S. trim information.
2. An electric-vehicle platform, not proof of identical hardware
Hyundai says the IONIQ 9 uses E-GMP, its electric-vehicle platform. That is relevant context for understanding the vehicle’s EV design, but a shared platform designation should not be taken as proof that the IONIQ 9 and EV9 use identical chassis parts or have the same tuning. The platform alone cannot answer questions about ride, handling or specific equipment.

3. Range claims that depend on the version and test cycle
Hyundai’s 2024 global launch-period specification lists a 110.3-kWh battery and a maximum range of 620 km under the WLTP test cycle for the Long-Range RWD version on 19-inch wheels. Those figures describe that particular configuration and test cycle—not every IONIQ 9, and not a U.S. EPA estimate. Hyundai’s global release gives the configuration behind the claim.
For the 2026 model in the United States, Hyundai Motor America lists EPA-estimated ranges of 335 miles for the S, 320 miles for the SE and SEL, and 311 miles for the Limited, Calligraphy and Calligraphy Design. These are U.S. EPA estimates and should not be compared directly with the global WLTP number. The range differences also show why “IONIQ 9 range” needs a trim and market attached to it. Hyundai USA lists the 2026 estimates by trim.

- NACS V2L Adapter for Hyundai & Kia - Native NACS + V2L Required: Fits 2025+ Hyundai Ioniq 5/6/9 and 2026+ Kia EV3/EV5/EV6/EV9. Not for Tesla, J1772/CCS vehicles or EVs without Vehicle-to-Load capability.
- Power More - Up to 20A / 2.4kW, NEMA 5-20: Turn your EV into a 120V portable power source for camping, road trips, tailgating, outdoor work, emergency power and home backup - more usable AC power for real-world needs.
- Vehicle-Controlled Locking – Secure During Use, Automatic Release: Insert the adapter and enable V2L, the vehicle electronically locks the NACS connector during power output to help prevent accidental removal. To remove, unplug the connected device from the V2L adapter, the vehicle receives the release signal, stops V2L, releases the electronic lock, and the adapter can then be removed normally - there is no separate mechanical lock on the adapter to release.
- Plug and Play – Load-Activated V2L Power: Insert the LZSTEC NACS V2L adapter, then connect your appliance, extension cord, or power strip. V2L activates when a connected device requests power, so the vehicle may not begin V2L output until a load is connected. Follow your vehicle’s display or prompts to confirm operation.
- Built-In 85°C Thermal Protection - Confidence for High-Output Use: Built-in thermal protection automatically stops operation if adapter temperature reaches about 85°C. IP54 after coupling adds protection for outdoor, camping and emergency use.
4. A high-power DC charging claim, with conditions
Hyundai’s 2025 global announcement says the IONIQ 9 can charge from 10% to 80% in about 24 minutes under suitable high-power charging conditions. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guarantee for every charging stop: the available charger, charging conditions and vehicle configuration matter. Hyundai’s announcement supplies the claim and context.
5. A choice of six- or seven-seat layouts
Expect the seating decision to depend on the version available in your market. Hyundai describes six- and seven-seat configurations, while the U.S. S page specifies a seven-passenger bench configuration. If your priority is a particular second-row arrangement or passenger count, confirm that exact trim’s layout before comparing it with an EV9.

6. Vehicle-to-load power in at least some markets
Hyundai UK says the IONIQ 9 can supply up to 3.6 kW through its onboard 230V socket for external devices. This is a UK-market specification; do not assume the same socket or power rating applies in other countries. Hyundai UK’s performance page describes the V2L capability.
7. Hyundai styling and cabin choices, not an EV9 rebadge
The IONIQ 9 is not simply an EV9 with a different badge. Hyundai’s own product material presents its design and comfort features as part of the vehicle’s identity. For cabin details and features, rely on the specific IONIQ 9 specification rather than transferring equipment expectations from Kia’s SUV.

8. Meaningful differences between trims
The U.S. 2026 range estimates differ by trim, and seating and equipment can also vary by market and version. A comparison that names only the model can conceal practical differences. Identify the trim and drivetrain on both vehicles before drawing conclusions about range, layout or included features.
9. Useful comparison coverage, but not a universal verdict
A March 2026 Tom’s Guide article describes a week with selected EV9 and IONIQ 9 versions. Its driving impressions belong to that publication and those vehicles; they do not establish how every trim compares. Read the comparison in its original context.
10. The best comparison is the one that matches your use
For a useful EV9-versus-IONIQ 9 decision, compare vehicles from the same market and model year, then match trim and drivetrain. Check the range test cycle, seating layout, charging claims and conditions, dimensions and cargo measures, included equipment, warranty and current transaction price.
The available official pages do not establish a complete, matched price-and-feature comparison between the two SUVs. For example, Kia Canada’s 2026 EV9 specification page and Hyundai USA’s 2026 IONIQ 9 page refer to different markets, so their figures should not be presented as a direct head-to-head. Kia Canada’s EV9 specifications and Hyundai USA’s IONIQ 9 information are starting points, not a same-market comparison.

- Choose the market and model year. Use vehicles sold in the same country and for the same model year.
- Match trim and drivetrain. A range or equipment comparison is meaningful only when you know which versions are being compared.
- Keep range test cycles separate. Label EPA and WLTP estimates explicitly; do not treat them as interchangeable.
- Verify the family configuration. Check passenger count and seat layout, then consider your own needs for all three rows and cargo.
- Compare charging claims in context. Note the stated charge interval, charger conditions and regional equipment.
- Check the details beyond headline figures. Compare dimensions, cargo measures, included features, warranty and current local pricing using current, market-specific information.
What is not established by the available specifications?
The official information cited here does not provide a complete, current global trim-and-availability matrix or a full same-market, same-model-year comparison of the EV9 and IONIQ 9 covering price, warranty, equipment and cargo measures. Those details should be checked against current local listings for the exact vehicles under consideration rather than inferred from the shared three-row-EV category or E-GMP platform.
