Why Hyundai’s U.S. sales figures differ across releases
Hyundai Motor America reported 901,686 total U.S. sales and 772,712 retail sales for 2025. Hyundai Motor Company’s separate global-results release reported 984,017 U.S. retail sales. That parent-company figure uses a different reporting basis and should not be substituted for Hyundai Motor America’s total-sales result. Which Hyundai and Kia models set records?

Hyundai Motor America identified six models with annual sales records: Elantra, Tucson, Santa Fe, Palisade, IONIQ 5, and Venue. The announcement identifies these as record-setting models but does not provide a complete cross-brand ranking of best sellers.

Kia America said Carnival, Sportage, Telluride, and K4 each had their best-ever annual sales. The announcement’s model claims establish records for those vehicles, not a ranking against Hyundai models or every other automaker’s lineup.
What the companies reported about electrified vehicles
Hyundai Motor America said electrified vehicles accounted for 30% of its 2025 retail mix. It reported hybrid sales up 36% and EV sales up 7% year over year. Kia America said sales of its electrified models grew 24% and set an annual record. These are different company-reported measures, so they should not be treated as a direct comparison of electrified-vehicle volume or market share. The announcements do not isolate electrification’s contribution to either company’s overall sales record.

The announcements show that both brands reported record U.S. annual totals, alongside model-level and electrified-vehicle gains. They do not establish a consistent definition across every sales channel, provide independent validation, or identify a single cause for the growth. Hyundai’s CEO Randy Parker described the result as the company’s “5 for 5 in 2025” mission, referring to five consecutive years of record retail sales; that is Hyundai’s characterization of its performance.
