Hyundai has confirmed it is developing a production midsize, body-on-frame pickup for North America, with delivery targeted by 2030. The Boulder Concept unveiled in April 2026 previews the architecture and design direction; it is an SUV concept, not the pickup that will go on sale.
What Hyundai has confirmed
Hyundai’s April 2026 announcement says the Boulder Concept previews the company’s first body-on-frame architecture, which will underpin a production midsize pickup targeted by 2030. Hyundai describes Boulder as a design study, so its shape and concept details should not be treated as final truck specifications. Hyundai’s announcement also places the truck within a North American product plan that the company says will include 36 new vehicles through 2030.
The direction is more specific than Hyundai’s earlier roadmap. In September 2025, the company said its first midsize pickup would launch in North America before 2030. The April 2026 announcement linked that plan to the Boulder-previewed body-on-frame platform and said future vehicles on the architecture would be designed, developed, and built in America using Hyundai-produced U.S. steel. These are Hyundai’s stated plans, not independent forecasts.
Is the Boulder the production pickup?
No. Boulder is an SUV-shaped design study intended to preview rugged styling and the body-on-frame architecture for future vehicles, including the pickup. Hyundai has not said that the concept itself is a truck or that its specific design features will carry over unchanged to production.

How is this different from the Santa Cruz?
Hyundai already sells the Santa Cruz, which the company described in its 2025 roadmap as a compact pickup launched in 2021. The newly announced vehicle is a separate midsize program using body-on-frame construction. Hyundai’s announcements do not say the new truck will replace the Santa Cruz.
| Vehicle | What Hyundai has said |
|---|---|
| Santa Cruz | Compact pickup launched in 2021, according to Hyundai’s 2025 roadmap. |
| Planned North American pickup | Midsize production pickup on the new body-on-frame architecture, targeted by 2030. |
Do not confuse it with Hyundai’s GM collaboration
Hyundai and General Motors also announced a separate midsize pickup program for Central and South America. GM leads development of that truck platform, and the companies planned to launch the co-developed vehicles in 2028. That regional collaboration is not the North American body-on-frame pickup previewed by Boulder.

What is still unknown?
Hyundai’s cited announcements do not give the production truck’s final name, exact launch date, price, powertrain, towing capacity, payload, or final equipment. The timing remains a broad target of delivery by 2030. Until Hyundai releases production details, comparisons on those points—or claims that Boulder’s concept features will be standard—would be speculation.

Hyundai Motor Company President and CEO José Muñoz said: “Body-on-frame vehicles are the backbone of American work and adventure, and we intend to compete in the midsize pickup segment with everything we have.” Hyundai Motor North America President and CEO Randy Parker said: “Developing a robust midsize pickup is a significant growth opportunity for Hyundai in the United States.” These statements describe Hyundai’s intent, not specifications or a confirmed competitive position for the finished truck.
