The Hyundai Genesis Coupe and Infiniti G37 Coupe are both rear-wheel-drive, discontinued sport coupes, but neither is a single fixed specification across its entire run. The G37 Coupe was sold for model years 2008–2014 with a 3.7-liter V6 rated at 330 hp and 270 lb-ft; Genesis Coupe engine, output and transmission details vary by year and trim. Compare exact cars—not just their nameplates—and give the specific vehicle’s condition, records and recall status more weight than a blanket reliability or value claim.
Which cars are being compared?
The G37 figures here apply to the 2008–2014 G37 Coupe. INFINITI lists a 3.7-liter V6 producing 330 hp and 270 lb-ft, paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic. Those are manufacturer specifications, not a promise about any particular used car’s condition.
The Genesis Coupe changed across its model years. Hyundai’s 2012 brochure covers 2.0T and 3.8 versions; its 2015 brochure describes a rear-wheel-drive car with a six-speed manual or eight-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic. Do not carry a later year’s transmission or output details over to an earlier car. Check the year, trim and original configuration before comparing performance or equipment.

Which is faster?
The G37 offers a straightforward benchmark: its 3.7-liter V6 is rated at 330 hp and 270 lb-ft. A Genesis Coupe cannot be assigned one comparable figure without specifying its model year and engine. Hyundai’s 2012 range included both 2.0T and 3.8 versions, while specifications changed over the model’s life.
Equipment matters too. In Edmunds’ historical comparison, the tested 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track had a limited-slip differential, Brembo brakes and 19-inch wheels. That is a description of that Track test configuration, not equipment to assume on every Genesis Coupe or 3.8 trim. The available evidence does not establish a single all-years acceleration winner, so compare like-for-like year, engine, transmission and performance equipment.

Which gets better gas mileage?
Hyundai’s 2012 brochure gives EPA estimates for specific Genesis Coupe configurations. These are historical model-year estimates, not predictions of current real-world fuel use. Cars.com’s current comparison, by contrast, pairs a 2013 G37 with a 2016 Genesis Coupe; its figures apply to those different model years, not to every car in either lineup.

Which is more reliable?
The available figures do not establish a general reliability winner. Cars.com reports consumer reliability ratings of 4.8 for a 2013 G37 and 4.7 for a 2016 Genesis Coupe. These are source-specific ratings for two different model years; they do not prove that G37s as a group are more reliable than Genesis Coupes, or predict the condition of a particular used example.
Instead, assess the individual car: request maintenance and repair records, look for modifications or signs of accident repair, test every transmission function and arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection. A documented, unmodified car that checks out mechanically may be a better choice than a more appealing trim with unresolved problems or a thin history.

Which is cheaper?
There is no supported current used-price range here, so the evidence cannot say which model is cheaper to buy today. Cars.com lists original starting MSRPs of $32,850 for its 2013 G37 and $26,950 for its 2016 Genesis Coupe. Those are new-car starting prices for different model years, not used-car values or a direct price comparison between equivalent trims.

- OE Part Number: 749-353

Edmunds reported that its 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track test car cost $6,625 less than the G37 base price at the time. That historical MSRP comparison is useful context about those new cars then; it does not establish what either costs now. Compare asking prices for cars of similar year, condition, mileage, equipment and documented maintenance.

Recall applicability is VIN-specific. The identified Hyundai campaigns affect certain vehicles, not every Genesis Coupe. The available material does not provide a complete recall-by-recall comparison covering all G37 years, so do not infer that a G37 has no recalls from this comparison.

- Genesis Coupe clutch ignition switch: NHTSA’s 2024 report records recall 24V-562 for certain 2010–2013 vehicles. Hyundai’s report lists 12,612 potentially involved vehicles and an estimated 1% defect rate for this recall population only; those figures are not a general reliability measure.
- Genesis Coupe ABS-module fire risk: NHTSA’s 2023 consumer alert includes 2011–2015 Genesis Coupe vehicles in the Hyundai recall population.
- 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0T fuel-pump-noise campaign: A Hyundai technical bulletin records a service campaign for some vehicles produced through August 30, 2012. It does not mean every 2013 2.0T needs the repair.
Check the VIN in the relevant official recall system and ask for documentation that applicable repairs were completed. A model-year match alone cannot establish whether an individual vehicle is affected or whether its work is done.

How to choose between two specific cars
Start with the VIN, model year, trim, engine and transmission, then compare the vehicles on the same terms. The G37’s published 330-hp V6 specification is easy to identify; the Genesis Coupe needs year-and-engine-specific checking. For either car, verify the equipment actually fitted rather than assuming a package or feature from the model name.
- Confirm configuration: Match the year, trim, engine, transmission and factory performance equipment to the car’s documentation.
- Review history: Ask for maintenance and repair records; inspect for modifications and accident repairs.
- Check recalls: Search the VIN through the appropriate official system and confirm completed remedies with records.
- Test and inspect: Operate all transmission functions and arrange an independent inspection before purchase.
- Compare the actual deal: Weigh condition, service history, equipment and asking price alongside your preferences for performance, fuel use, interior and ride.
Choose the G37 if its specific configuration and condition suit your priorities; choose the Genesis Coupe if its year, engine and equipment do. The badge alone cannot settle reliability, affordability or ownership cost.
