Short answer: Hyundai’s high-voltage battery coverage depends on where the vehicle is sold. Hyundai USA lists 10 years or 100,000 miles, while Hyundai materials for Europe and Australia generally list 8 years or 160,000 km; Hyundai India’s published Ioniq 5 policy lists 96 months or 160,000 km. In these programs, the important capacity benchmark is usually 70% of the battery’s original capacity or state of health (SOH). Falling below that level can qualify for warranty action, but the test, exclusions and remedy vary by market.
A lower range estimate is not automatically battery failure. Cold weather, high speeds, hills, traffic, heating or air-conditioning and the battery’s current charge can reduce distance to empty temporarily. A persistent decline in measured capacity or repeated loss of range under comparable conditions is the point at which an authorized Hyundai inspection makes sense.

Hyundai EV battery warranty by market
There is no single worldwide Hyundai EV battery warranty. The selling country, vehicle model, model year and the warranty booklet supplied with that vehicle control the legal terms. The figures below are the headline terms published in the cited regional materials; your booklet takes priority if it differs.

“70%” is a minimum capacity or SOH threshold, not a promise that the dashboard range will always equal 70% of its original number. Hyundai’s systems estimate range from recent energy use and operating conditions, while a warranty assessment measures battery performance using the manufacturer’s diagnostic process.

What the United States warranty covers
Hyundai USA’s warranty overview states that lithium-ion batteries naturally lose energy and power with age and use, but says the battery will not degrade below 70% of original capacity during the 10-year/100,000-mile warranty period. The 2025 U.S. handbook identifies the high-voltage battery and several EV-specific components as covered items.

The list matters because a charging fault, inverter problem or battery-management issue can feel like “degradation” without being a loss of cell capacity. A dealer’s diagnostic report should identify whether the complaint concerns usable energy, power delivery, charging hardware or another covered component.
How the 70% threshold works
Battery capacity is the amount of usable energy the pack can deliver under specified conditions. State of health is a diagnostic representation of that capability compared with the battery when new. A result near 80% SOH indicates aging, but it is not the same as crossing a 70% warranty threshold.

The distance-to-empty estimate is calculated from the charge remaining and expected consumption. If a vehicle normally uses 18 kWh per 100 km but uses 25 kWh per 100 km in cold weather at highway speed with the heater running, the displayed range will fall even though the pack’s permanent capacity may be unchanged. Regenerative-braking availability, tire pressure, wind, payload, elevation and traffic can also change consumption.

What a warranty test is intended to establish
An authorized repairer uses Hyundai service equipment and the procedure specified for the vehicle and market. The result may report SOH, usable energy, cell imbalance, fault codes or charging performance. The exact acceptance criteria and test conditions are not identical across countries, so an informal phone app estimate should be treated as a reason to request testing, not as a warranty verdict.
Normal degradation versus a defect
All lithium-ion traction batteries lose some energy and power over time. The rate is affected by calendar age, mileage, temperature exposure, charging pattern and how long the battery remains at very high or very low charge. Hyundai describes this gradual loss as expected aging. A warranty generally addresses degradation beyond the published limit or a component defect, not every reduction from the vehicle’s original range.
Signs that are usually not proof of a failed battery
- A shorter range on a freezing day or during a heat wave.
- A drop after sustained high-speed driving, climbing hills or towing.
- Reduced range while using strong cabin heating, air-conditioning or windshield defrost.
- A different estimate immediately after a software update, tire change or a period of unusually gentle or aggressive driving.
- One isolated low reading without repeat measurements under similar conditions.
Signs that justify an inspection
- Charge capacity and distance to empty continue falling over several observations.
- The vehicle reaches a noticeably lower usable charge than before despite similar temperatures and charging conditions.
- Charging repeatedly stops early, takes abnormal time or triggers a battery or powertrain warning.
- Power is restricted, the vehicle enters a protection mode or the dashboard displays a high-voltage-system fault.
Do not continue driving a vehicle that displays a serious high-voltage warning merely to collect more data. Follow the owner manual and contact an authorized Hyundai repairer.

- Record the vehicle identity. Note model, model year, battery version if known, current odometer reading and the country where it was purchased and registered.
- Check the governing booklet. Confirm the applicable time-and-distance limit, capacity threshold, maintenance conditions, exclusions and any transfer provisions. Do not rely on a warranty page from another country.
- Log comparable observations. For each charge, record starting and ending state of charge, energy added if your charger reports it, ambient temperature, route, average speed, elevation, payload and climate-control use.
- Repeat the observation. Compare several drives in similar conditions rather than one winter trip or one highway run. Avoid deliberately running the battery to an unsafe level.
- Preserve warnings and invoices. Photograph dashboard messages and keep charging records, service invoices and prior diagnostic reports.
- Request an authorized SOH evaluation. Ask the Hyundai dealer or authorized repairer to test the high-voltage battery and provide the measured result and fault findings in writing.
- Ask what remedy applies. Depending on the market and diagnosis, the remedy may be software or component repair, battery repair, or replacement. Obtain the proposed work and parts description on the repair order.
What happens if the battery is below the warranty limit?
The regional wording determines the outcome. U.S. terms describe coverage for capacity or power loss to the stated limit. Europe describes repairs needed to restore SOH to at least 70%. Australia expressly allows repair or replacement and says a replacement may be reconditioned or remanufactured rather than factory-new. India’s Ioniq 5 policy excludes degradation classified as normal aging under Hyundai’s internal quality standards.
Those differences affect expectations. A warranty remedy is intended to meet the contractual specification, not necessarily to return the vehicle to the exact range it showed when new. Ask whether the proposed action addresses the measured SOH, a failed module, the battery-management system or another cause of the complaint.

The 2024 manual says a vehicle stored for an extended period should be charged at least once every three months. Long periods at a very low state of charge can leave the pack unable to protect itself from further discharge, so arrange periodic charging rather than parking indefinitely with the gauge nearly empty.

Choosing AC or DC charging
Hyundai states that AC charging helps keep the battery in optimal condition. Its precautions also note that frequent DC charging and extreme temperatures can affect battery life. DC fast charging is useful for long trips, but for routine charging, use the method recommended in your manual and avoid making high-power charging the only pattern when a slower option is practical.
Avoiding prolonged low charge
Hyundai’s 2025 precautions advise against keeping the battery gauge below 10% for long periods. This is a storage and operating habit, not a rule that the vehicle can never reach 10% during normal travel. Plan a charge before the car remains at a very low level for an extended time.

Applying U.S. figures to another country
“10 years/100,000 miles” is the published U.S. headline, not a global Hyundai promise. A European or Australian vehicle commonly has an 8-year/160,000-km term, and the published Indian Ioniq 5 policy uses 96 months/160,000 km. Use the booklet issued for your vehicle.
Treating every range drop as permanent degradation
Range is an estimate influenced by consumption. Compare like with like and obtain a diagnostic SOH result before asserting that the battery has crossed 70%.

Assuming a replacement must be new
Australia’s published terms specifically allow reconditioned or remanufactured parts and caution that the result may not be “as new.” Other markets may use different language, so have the proposed remedy documented.
Skipping required maintenance or checks
Some regional terms make regular SOH checks or compliance with the owner manual a condition of coverage. Missing those requirements can complicate a claim even when the driver believes the battery is weak.
A practical decision checklist
- Still within the local limit? Check both calendar time and mileage or kilometres.
- Persistent symptom? Verify that the decline repeats under comparable conditions.
- Any warning message? Arrange prompt authorized service rather than relying on range calculations.
- Documented SOH result? Request the number and test details in writing.
- Clear remedy? Confirm whether the proposal is a software update, component repair, module work or complete-pack replacement.
- Records retained? Keep the repair order, invoices and test report in case a later warranty decision depends on them.
Hyundai’s battery warranties are therefore best understood as protection against excessive capacity loss or covered high-voltage-component faults within a market-specific term—not as a guarantee of a fixed driving range in every season. Follow the local booklet, track persistent changes, and use an authorized Hyundai EV battery inspection when the evidence points to a continuing capacity problem.
