Hyundai Creta N Line vs Kia Sonet: Dimensions, Boot Space and Rear-Seat Comfort

The Creta N Line is longer and has a longer wheelbase, while Kia publishes a 385-litre Sonet boot figure. Here is what the official data says—and what you must test in person for rear comfort and luggage use.

The Hyundai Creta N Line has the larger exterior footprint, while the Kia Sonet is the only one of the two with a published boot-capacity figure in the official specifications reviewed. Hyundai lists the Creta N Line’s rear-seat equipment, but the available specifications do not provide the matching cabin measurements needed to declare one vehicle more comfortable. The fairest decision therefore combines the published dimensions with an in-person rear-seat and luggage check.

Published dimensions and cargo figures at a glance

The figures below come from official Indian-market manufacturer material: Hyundai’s current Creta N Line digital brochure and Kia India’s Sonet specifications page, which identifies 2026 specifications. They are not independent measurements, and equipment or dimensions can vary with configuration.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Published measurement Hyundai Creta N Line Kia Sonet
Overall length 4,330 mm 3,995 mm
Overall width 1,790 mm 1,790 mm
Overall height 1,635 mm with roof rails Kia lists configuration-dependent figures, including 1,610 mm and 1,642 mm
Wheelbase 2,610 mm 2,500 mm
Published boot volume No numeric capacity stated in the reviewed N Line brochure or specification material 385 litres

Using the manufacturers’ listed dimensions, the Creta N Line is 335 mm longer and has a 110 mm longer wheelbase. Both are listed at the same width. Those numbers establish a bigger exterior footprint for the Hyundai, but they do not by themselves establish a specific amount of rear legroom, shoulder room, or luggage usability.

How the Creta N Line’s larger footprint compares with the Sonet

Length: 335 mm more vehicle to place on the road

The Hyundai’s listed 4,330 mm length versus the Sonet’s 3,995 mm gives the Creta N Line 335 mm more body length. That is a meaningful difference when choosing a parking space, judging a tight garage, or turning around in a narrow lane. It can also provide designers with more space to distribute between the engine bay, passenger compartment, and luggage area, but the exterior number does not reveal how Hyundai allocated that space.

Length should be considered alongside the front and rear overhangs, which are not supplied in the reviewed material. A longer car is not automatically harder to manoeuvre in every situation: steering lock, camera coverage, mirrors, and the driver’s seating position matter too. Treat the published length as a planning measurement, not as a prediction of turning circle or parking ease.

Width: identical headline figure, not proof of identical cabin room

Both manufacturers list 1,790 mm overall width. That makes the cars look similar on a parking-space plan and suggests that neither has a headline body-width advantage over the other. The number is an exterior measurement, however. Mirror-to-mirror width, door-card thickness, seat width, and the shape of the shoulder area can all affect how roomy the rear bench feels.

Do not convert equal exterior width into a claim that the vehicles offer equal rear shoulder room. Neither reviewed source publishes a comparable rear-cabin width measurement, and the specification sheets do not describe a standardized three-adult test.

Height: compare the exact Sonet configuration

Hyundai lists the Creta N Line at 1,635 mm high with roof rails. Kia’s Sonet page displays more than one height, including 1,610 mm and 1,642 mm, depending on configuration. A single unqualified statement that one model is taller would therefore be misleading.

Roof rails are part of Hyundai’s stated height, so a measurement taken without them would not be directly equivalent. For a low-clearance garage, measure the actual car or confirm the exact equipment configuration rather than relying on a generic model name. Height also does not directly tell you how much headroom a rear passenger receives; seat height, roof contour, panoramic-roof equipment, and cushion design influence that experience.

Wheelbase: the Creta has 110 mm more between its axles

The Creta N Line’s 2,610 mm wheelbase is 110 mm longer than the Sonet’s 2,500 mm. A longer wheelbase can create more opportunity for passenger-room packaging and can reduce the pitch motion associated with a short distance between the axles, but neither outcome is guaranteed. Front-seat travel, seat-cushion length, floor shape, and suspension tuning determine what occupants actually feel.

Because the available Kia specification does not publish rear legroom and the Hyundai material does not provide a matching measured figure, the wheelbase difference must remain a useful clue rather than a quantified legroom advantage. A tall driver positioned far back can leave less space for a rear passenger in either model than a shorter driver would.

Boot space: what is published and what is not

Kia’s 385-litre figure

Kia publishes a 385-litre boot capacity for the Sonet on its specifications page. The figure is a manufacturer specification; the page does not, in the material reviewed here, define a standardized luggage-loading method or state how the space changes with every seat position. Use it as the official headline capacity, not as a guarantee that every suitcase will fit in the same arrangement.

No directly comparable Creta N Line number

The reviewed Creta N Line brochure and specification material list exterior dimensions and equipment but do not state a numeric boot volume. Hyundai’s broader Creta interior information describes a 60:40 split rear seat and cargo flexibility for the range, but that is not a numeric capacity for the N Line and should not be substituted for one.

It would therefore be inaccurate to place a guessed Creta figure beside 385 litres or to use a number belonging to another Creta variant without identifying its source and configuration. The correct comparison is “385 litres published for Sonet” versus “numeric Creta N Line capacity not stated in the reviewed official material.”

Turn the specification gap into a useful shopping test

Boot litres are useful for comparing standardized claims, but everyday loading depends on opening height, aperture width, wheel-arch intrusion, floor height, seat-back angle, and the shape of the items you carry. A family that uses a stroller may find the opening more important than a small difference in quoted volume; a frequent airport traveller may care about the ability to place two large cases flat.

  2. Load the items without forcing the tailgate or compressing soft bags beyond normal use.
  3. Check whether the parcel shelf, spare-wheel cover, or boot floor has to be removed.
  4. Note whether a 60:40 rear-seat section can be folded while a child seat remains installed on the other side.
  5. Open and close the tailgate with the items in place and check visibility through the rear window.

This exercise does not create an official litre measurement. It gives you a personal, same-load comparison while keeping the published Kia figure and the unpublished Hyundai figure clearly separate.

Rear-seat comfort: equipment evidence versus a comfort verdict

What Hyundai lists for the Creta N Line

Hyundai’s feature list identifies a rear centre armrest with cup holders and rear air-conditioning vents on both N8 and N10 Creta N Line trims. The brochure also lists a 60:40 split rear seat and a two-step rear-seat recline for both trims. These features add adjustability, storage, ventilation, and loading flexibility.

A split backrest can let one passenger retain a seat while a longer item occupies the other side. Two recline positions may help passengers find a more comfortable back angle, although the range of movement is not quantified in the reviewed material. Rear vents can improve air distribution, but their real benefit depends on cabin temperature, airflow settings, and how many people are using the car.

What the Sonet information does—and does not—establish

The Kia specification page used for this comparison does not publish rear legroom, rear shoulder room, cushion dimensions, or a directly comparable comfort score. The absence of a listed measurement is not evidence that the Sonet lacks a feature; it means the reviewed source does not establish a like-for-like comparison.

For the same reason, it is not defensible to state that the Creta N Line definitely seats three adults more comfortably, that its longer wheelbase guarantees more legroom, or that the Sonet is cramped for every passenger. Occupant height, front-seat position, body shape, cushion firmness, headroom, and road surface all change the result.

Why exterior dimensions cannot settle rear comfort

Rear comfort is a system rather than a single number. A longer wheelbase may help, but the usable distance from the rear cushion to the front seat depends on where the front seat is set. A taller roof may provide head clearance but does not guarantee a supportive seating posture. Equal body width does not reveal how much space is consumed by door trim or how the bench is shaped.

Ride quality is another separate issue. The reviewed specifications do not include an independent ride or comfort test, so no conclusion about bump absorption, body movement, or long-distance fatigue should be presented as a measured fact. A showroom sit-in can answer fit questions; only a road drive in the exact variant can reveal whether the seat and ride suit your passengers.

How to test the rear seat properly

Use the same method in both vehicles and keep the front seats in the positions you would use every day. Test the exact Creta N Line trim and exact Sonet configuration you intend to buy, because equipment and some dimensions can vary by variant.

  1. Set the driver’s seat for the tallest regular driver, including a comfortable reach to the pedals and steering wheel.
  2. Have the intended rear passengers sit behind that seat, rather than moving the front seat forward to create an artificially generous result.
  3. Check knee clearance, foot placement under the front seat, cushion support under the thighs, and whether the knees touch the front seatback.
  4. Place an adult in the centre position and inspect shoulder contact, floor-hump interference, belt access, and head clearance.
  5. Test the door opening and the effort needed to climb in, especially if a child seat or an older passenger will use the car.
  6. On the Creta N Line, try both rear-recline positions, the centre armrest, cup holders, and rear vents; confirm that the equipment is present on the trim being purchased.
  7. Install your child seat or booster in its normal location and check whether the remaining seating positions are still usable.
  8. Drive over the roads you normally use with rear passengers, listening for tyre and suspension noise and checking whether the seating position remains comfortable after at least a short trip.

Record observations for each car immediately after the drive. Memory tends to favour the vehicle tested last, while a written checklist keeps the comparison focused on your passengers rather than on showroom impressions.

Creta N Line trims covered by the rear-seat feature list

The rear armrest with cup holders, rear air vents, 60:40 split seat, and two-step recline are listed for the N8 and N10 Creta N Line trims in the Hyundai material reviewed. The same brochure identifies a 1.5-litre Turbo GDi petrol engine with a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Those powertrain details help identify the N Line product, but they do not change the published dimension comparison.

Confirm the model year, trim, transmission, and optional equipment on the purchase order. Hyundai notes that specifications and equipment can change, so a showroom car may not exactly match an earlier brochure or a different market listing.

Sonet configuration and height

Kia’s page presents multiple height figures for the Sonet, which is why the exact configuration matters when checking garage clearance or comparing roof height. Match the engine, trim, wheel and roof equipment, and model year before treating a displayed dimension as the one that applies to your car.

Which model suits which priority?

Choose the Creta N Line when exterior footprint and rear-seat adjustability matter most

The Hyundai is the logical starting point for shoppers who need the larger listed body and wheelbase, or who value the documented rear-seat recline, centre armrest, rear vents, and split-folding backrest. Those advantages are equipment and packaging facts, not a promise of superior comfort for every body type. Verify the rear fit with your own passengers before deciding.

Choose the Sonet when a published boot number and smaller body are useful decision anchors

The Kia offers a published 385-litre boot specification and a shorter overall body, which can simplify an initial comparison for buyers who prioritize an official cargo figure or a more compact footprint. The same-width headline measurement means it is not narrower on paper, so do not assume that width alone predicts easier loading or more rear space.

Do not choose on wheelbase or litres alone

Wheelbase is not a substitute for measured legroom, and a boot-litre figure is not a substitute for checking your luggage. If rear passengers are central to the purchase, seat them in both cars. If luggage is central, load the same items in both. The most defensible choice is the one that satisfies those physical checks in the exact variants you can buy.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Using a different Creta variant’s boot capacity: the reviewed N Line material does not state a numeric boot volume, so a number from another version is not a valid substitute.
  • Calling the Sonet height one fixed number: Kia lists configuration-dependent heights, including 1,610 mm and 1,642 mm.
  • Treating equal width as equal shoulder room: exterior width does not describe seat or door-trim dimensions.
  • Turning a longer wheelbase into a guaranteed legroom claim: front-seat position and cabin packaging determine usable space.
  • Confusing equipment with comfort: recline, vents, and an armrest are useful features, but they do not replace a rear-seat fit and road test.
  • Comparing a brochure car with a different showroom car: verify model year, trim, roof equipment, and seat features before recording observations.

Bottom line for a buyer

On the published Indian-market figures, the Creta N Line occupies more length and wheelbase, while both vehicles share the same listed width. Kia provides a 385-litre Sonet boot figure; Hyundai’s reviewed Creta N Line material does not provide a directly comparable numeric capacity. Hyundai documents useful rear-seat flexibility and convenience features on N8 and N10, but the available specifications do not prove which car is more comfortable. Use the dimensions to narrow the choice, then settle it with a same-driver-position rear-seat sit, an exact-trim feature check, and a real-world luggage load.
