What Hyundai unveiled on April 1
A day earlier, Hyundai had teased a major world debut for the 2026 New York International Auto Show and emphasized that the announcement was “no joke.” The reveal was the Boulder Concept, announced by Hyundai Motor Company on April 1, 2026. Grassroots Motorsports reported the teaser on March 31; Hyundai identified the concept in its April 1 newsroom release.
The preview listed a press-conference and livestream window of 9:55–10:20 a.m. Eastern on April 1, 2026. That event time has passed.
What Boulder is—and what it is not
Hyundai described Boulder as an SUV-shaped design study. The company said it previews a fully boxed body-on-frame architecture, a new platform confirmed to underpin a production midsize pickup targeted for delivery by 2030.

In Hyundai’s words: “This SUV design study previews the brand’s first fully-boxed body-on-frame architecture, a new platform confirmed to underpin a production midsize pickup to be delivered by 2030.” This is language from the company’s release, not a quote attributed to a named executive.

What Hyundai has said about building future vehicles
Hyundai says its future body-on-frame vehicles will be designed in America, developed for America, and built in America using Hyundai U.S. steel. The announcement does not specify a factory location, a price, or a retail on-sale date for the planned pickup.

What remains unknown about the pickup
The announcement establishes the intended vehicle type, the body-on-frame platform plan, and Hyundai’s delivery target. It does not provide pickup specifications, pricing, or a more precise sales timeline. Those details should not be inferred from the Boulder study.
