Hyundai Bayon vs Ford Puma: UK price, boot space and running costs compared

The Bayon starts below the Puma on cited UK list prices, while the Puma claims more boot space and higher maximum WLTP mpg. Here is what the figures really show—and what they cannot prove about total ownership cost.

Verdict: the current Hyundai Bayon is cheaper to list-price than the Ford Puma, while the Puma quotes a larger boot and better maximum WLTP fuel economy in the specific manual version Ford identifies. The figures are not a complete ownership-cost comparison: insurance, servicing, depreciation, road tax and a matched fuel-price calculation are not established by the available manufacturer data.

This comparison uses current UK-market figures and keeps each model generation, trim and transmission visible. Prices and temporary offers can change, so obtain a live, like-for-like quotation before ordering.

The headline numbers come from UK manufacturer pages: Hyundai’s Bayon trims and prices page, its December 2025 revised-range release, and Ford’s Puma model page. They are range or trim figures rather than the result of one independently controlled comparison test.

The same Hyundai trim page also displays a separate “From £24,065” banner. That conflicting display means £23,795 should not be treated as a guaranteed price for every configuration. Select the exact trim, engine, transmission, paint and delivery option in Hyundai’s live configurator and check the resulting on-the-road total.

Ford Puma list price and temporary saving

Ford lists a Puma Titanium manual at a recommended on-the-road price of £27,145. The page represented in the source material also advertises a £1,000 “Welcome to Ford Saving”. That is a temporary promotion, not a permanent reduction: eligibility and the end date must be confirmed with Ford before it is included in a buying decision.

What the headline gap does—and does not—prove

On the cited list figures, the Bayon Black Line is £3,350 below the Puma Titanium manual, and the Bayon Tech Line is £1,850 below it. Those are not matched trims: equipment, engine output, gearbox, delivery charges and any finance or cash campaign may differ. Compare written quotes with the same payment method and equivalent specification rather than assuming the cheapest headline number is the cheapest car you can actually order.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A fair comparison should show the cash price, any deposit contribution, customer deposit, interest or finance fees, delivery charge, registration fee, paint surcharge and optional equipment separately. A manufacturer saving can apply only to selected stock, customers or finance products, so ask the retailer whether the £1,000 Ford offer is available on the exact Titanium manual you want. Likewise, confirm whether the Hyundai starting figure includes the same mandatory on-the-road items as the Ford figure.

Boot space: does the Puma have the bigger luggage area?

Published capacities

Hyundai quotes 411 litres for the current Bayon with the rear seats raised and 1,205 litres with them folded.

Ford quotes up to 456 litres for the Puma with the seats up, explicitly including its 80-litre MegaBox under-floor storage compartment. With the rear seats folded, Ford quotes up to 1,216 litres.

Configuration Bayon (current/revised range) Puma (current Ford range figure)
Seats up 411 litres Up to 456 litres, including 80-litre MegaBox
Seats folded 1,205 litres Up to 1,216 litres

How to interpret the difference

The Puma’s quoted seats-up figure is 45 litres higher, but the measurement includes the MegaBox while Hyundai’s published Bayon figure is not described using that same compartment definition. The manufacturers also do not provide a common, independently verified measurement protocol in the cited pages. Therefore the figures establish a larger published capacity for the Puma, not a precise prediction of how many suitcases or pushchairs will fit in a real boot.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The folded-seat figures are much closer: 1,216 litres for the Puma versus 1,205 litres for the Bayon. “Up to” wording means the maximum can depend on series, equipment and configuration. If your decision hinges on a particular pram, dog crate or weekly shop, test-load that item in both cars and check the loading lip, floor shape and seat-fold arrangement.

The MegaBox can be useful for muddy boots, charging cables or tall items that you do not want mixed with soft luggage, but it is still part of Ford’s 456-litre headline. Ask to see the compartment with the parcel shelf and boot floor in the position you would actually use. Check whether a full-size spare wheel, temporary spare or tyre-repair kit changes the under-floor arrangement on the specific car.

Passenger room and exterior dimensions

Bayon measurements Hyundai publishes

Hyundai’s Bayon features information gives 1,072 mm front legroom and 882 mm rear legroom. It lists 993 mm front headroom and 977 mm rear headroom. These dimensions describe the current Bayon range and are useful when checking a child seat or an adult passenger behind a tall driver.

Puma dimensions

Ford’s cited Puma page lists overall dimensions of 4,226 × 1,805 × 1,550 mm and a 2,588 mm wheelbase. It does not provide matching front and rear legroom or headroom measurements on that page, so the available evidence cannot declare a cabin-space winner on a like-for-like basis.

Dimension figures can also vary with wheels, roof rails, seats and model series. Sit in both cars with the driver’s seat set for the intended driver, then check rear knee clearance, head clearance, door opening and access to the ISOFIX points rather than relying on exterior length alone.

Bring the child seats, booster cushions or folded wheelchair you actually use. Try the front passenger seat in its normal position, not pushed forward just to create an impressive rear measurement. Also check whether the rear doors open wide enough for lifting a child in, and whether the boot sill is comfortable when loading a heavy shopping crate.

Fuel economy and the question of running cost

Bayon WLTP figures

In its December 2025 revised-range release, Hyundai lists two WLTP combined results for the configurations shown: 47.9 mpg with 133 g/km of CO₂ and 48.7 mpg with 131 g/km for Black Line configurations; Tech Line configurations are shown at 47.9 mpg with 134 g/km and 48.7 mpg with 132 g/km. The exact result depends on the selected powertrain and equipment.

Puma WLTP figure

Ford describes the Puma as a 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder 48V mild-hybrid range, with 125 PS manual and automatic availability on some outputs. Its page quotes up to 52.3 mpg WLTP combined for the 125 PS manual. Ford warns that peak figures can come from different series and may not apply to every model, so verify the figure attached to the specific car on the order sheet.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why WLTP is not your fuel bill

WLTP is a standard laboratory test for comparing certified vehicles. It is not a promise of an individual driver’s consumption. Speed, temperature, traffic, short journeys, tyre pressures, payload, roof accessories and driving style can all move actual mpg away from the quoted result.

The available figures support a narrow conclusion: the specified Puma manual has the higher published maximum economy than the cited Bayon configurations. They do not establish a cash saving. To calculate one for your circumstances, use the exact certified mpg for the car you are buying, your annual miles and a current petrol price:

annual fuel cost = (annual miles ÷ mpg) × UK-gallon volume in litres × price per litre

Use a consistent UK-gallon conversion and the same dated pump price for both cars. A calculation based on different trims, an “up to” figure for one car and a mid-range figure for the other will create a false precision. Run a low-mileage and high-mileage scenario as well: a small mpg advantage matters more to someone covering many motorway miles than to someone making short urban trips.

What is known about warranties and other ownership costs?

Warranty

Ford’s Puma page states a warranty of three years or 60,000 miles. The cited Hyundai Bayon pages do not provide a comparable warranty term, so this evidence cannot support a warranty advantage for either vehicle.

Check whether the warranty starts on registration or delivery, what mileage limit applies, and which items have separate coverage. Confirm the terms on the order documentation rather than assuming two cars with similar list prices carry identical protection.

Insurance, servicing, tax and depreciation

No matched insurance quotations, scheduled-service prices, depreciation forecasts or exact road-tax figures are established here. Each can materially change the cost of ownership. Insurance depends on the driver, postcode, annual mileage, occupation, security and chosen cover; service pricing depends on interval, dealer and plan; depreciation depends on transaction price, mileage, condition and market demand.

For a genuine total-cost comparison, request insurance quotes for the same driver and postcode, obtain service-plan prices for the exact engine and gearbox, check the current vehicle-tax rate for the exact CO₂ band, and compare realistic three- or four-year resale assumptions. Do not substitute the list-price difference or the WLTP gap for those missing costs.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep finance out of the fuel calculation. Compare the total amount payable, annual percentage rate, deposit and mileage allowance separately for each vehicle. A lower monthly payment can simply reflect a larger final payment or a longer term, while a cash discount may not be available with every finance product.

Current Bayon versus the announced all-new Bayon

Hyundai has announced an all-new Bayon separately from the current/revised range. Its UK announcement gives projected combustion-version luggage capacity of 440 litres and announced dimensions of 4,245 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm high with 18-inch wheels and roof rails, plus a 2,600 mm wheelbase.

Those are announcement figures, not final certified specifications. Hyundai states: “Official technical data and range of this model are pending final homologation.” The model is scheduled to be presented at the Paris Motor Show from 12 to 18 October 2026. The announcement does not provide a confirmed UK price list in the information used here.

Do not combine the projected 440-litre boot or announced dimensions with the current Bayon’s 411-litre specification, and do not use them to compare against the Puma until final production data and a UK price are published. The current comparison above is between the current/revised Bayon range and the current Puma page.

Which car suits which buyer?

Choose the Bayon when the upfront quote matters most

  • You want the lower published starting price: £23,795 for the current Black Line, subject to configuration and the live Hyundai quote.
  • You need the published rear-seat and headroom measurements to check a family seating position before buying.
  • A 411-litre seats-up boot and 1,205-litre folded capacity meet your carrying needs.
  • You are prepared to compare the exact Bayon configuration rather than relying on the separate £24,065 banner or a generic range price.

Choose the Puma when its storage layout or specified economy fits better

  • You value the quoted 456-litre seats-up capacity and specifically expect to use the 80-litre MegaBox.
  • The 125 PS manual’s quoted maximum of 52.3 mpg suits your driving pattern, while recognising that it is a WLTP maximum for that version.
  • You prefer the published three-year/60,000-mile warranty term.
  • You are comfortable with the Puma Titanium manual’s £27,145 recommended on-the-road price, after checking whether the £1,000 welcome saving applies.

Compare in person when practicality is decisive

  1. Configure both cars with the same transmission type, comparable equipment and the same delivery assumptions.
  2. Measure the objects you carry most often and test them in each boot, including the Puma’s MegaBox separately from the main luggage area.
  3. Place the driver’s seat for the primary driver, then sit in the rear seat behind it and check knee, head and shoulder room.
  4. Request the exact WLTP result, CO₂ figure, service schedule and warranty terms for the vehicle identification or build specification on your quote.
  5. Obtain insurance and finance figures using identical driver, postcode, mileage, deposit and term assumptions.
  6. Recheck all prices and promotional eligibility immediately before placing the order.

Common comparison pitfalls

  • Mixing generations: the 440-litre figure belongs to the announced all-new Bayon and is projected, while 411 litres belongs to the current/revised car.
  • Treating a range maximum as universal: Ford’s “up to” 456-litre boot and 52.3 mpg figures may come from particular series or powertrains.
  • Ignoring the MegaBox definition: the Puma’s 80-litre under-floor space is included in its headline boot number.
  • Comparing unlike prices: a Black Line, Tech Line and Titanium manual are different trims and may have different equipment and transmissions.
  • Turning WLTP into a promise: laboratory mpg cannot predict every driver’s consumption or annual fuel bill.
  • Counting a promotion twice: confirm whether the Ford saving is available for your customer type and whether it can be combined with finance or other discounts.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hyundai Bayon cheaper than the Ford Puma?

On the cited UK list prices, yes. The current Bayon Black Line starts at £23,795 and Tech Line at £25,295, compared with £27,145 recommended on-the-road for a Ford Puma Titanium manual. The figures are not equivalent trims, and the Ford page’s £1,000 welcome saving is temporary and subject to eligibility.

Which has the bigger boot?

The Puma has the larger published seats-up figure: up to 456 litres including its 80-litre MegaBox, versus 411 litres for the current Bayon. With the seats folded, the published figures are much closer: 1,216 litres for the Puma and 1,205 litres for the Bayon.

Which is cheaper to run?

The evidence does not establish a complete winner. Ford quotes up to 52.3 mpg WLTP combined for the 125 PS manual Puma, while Hyundai lists 47.9 or 48.7 mpg for the cited Bayon configurations. Actual fuel cost also depends on mileage and petrol price, while insurance, servicing, tax and depreciation are not matched here.

Does the Bayon have more rear-seat room?

Hyundai publishes 882 mm of rear legroom and 977 mm of rear headroom for the current Bayon. The Ford page used for this comparison does not publish matching Puma figures, so those numbers cannot prove that the Bayon is roomier. Test both cars with the intended driver and child seats.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What warranty does the Puma have?

Ford’s cited UK Puma page states three years or 60,000 miles. The Hyundai pages used here do not state a comparable Bayon warranty term, so confirm Hyundai’s current written warranty conditions with the dealer.

Should I wait for the all-new Bayon?

That depends on timing and price. Hyundai says the all-new model’s technical data and range are pending final homologation, with a projected 440-litre combustion boot and a Paris Motor Show presentation scheduled for 12–18 October 2026. There is no confirmed UK price in the cited announcement, so it cannot yet be compared fairly with the current Puma.

Bottom line

The current Hyundai Bayon is the lower-priced choice on the cited UK list figures. The Ford Puma publishes more seats-up boot space because its 456-litre headline includes an 80-litre MegaBox, and its 125 PS manual has the higher quoted maximum WLTP economy. Neither result is a complete running-cost verdict: only a matched quote, real insurance and service prices, current tax information, fuel assumptions and an agreed ownership period can show which one is cheaper for you to own.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Hyundai Bayon cheaper than the Ford Puma?

Yes on the cited list prices: £23,795 for the current Bayon Black Line versus £27,145 recommended on-the-road for a Ford Puma Titanium manual. They are different trims, and Ford’s advertised £1,000 saving is temporary and conditional.

Which car has the bigger boot?

The Puma’s published seats-up capacity is up to 456 litres including its 80-litre MegaBox, compared with 411 litres for the current Bayon. Folded-seat figures are 1,216 litres for the Puma and 1,205 litres for the Bayon.

Which is cheaper to run?

No complete ownership-cost winner is established. The Puma 125 PS manual quotes up to 52.3 mpg WLTP combined, versus 47.9 or 48.7 mpg for cited Bayon configurations, but insurance, servicing, tax, depreciation, mileage and fuel prices also matter.

What warranty does the Ford Puma have?

Ford states three years or 60,000 miles on the cited UK Puma page. The Hyundai pages used here do not provide a matching Bayon warranty figure.

Is the all-new Bayon included in these figures?

No. The comparison uses the current/revised Bayon. Hyundai’s all-new model has a projected 440-litre combustion boot, but final technical data is pending homologation and no confirmed UK price is provided.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: choose the current Bayon for the lower published entry price, or the Puma if its MegaBox, published boot capacity, warranty term or 125 PS manual economy better fits your needs. Confirm a like-for-like quote and your own insurance, service, tax and fuel costs before deciding.
