For an India-market buyer today, the Hyundai Creta is the more versatile documented choice. Hyundai Motor India lists three Creta engine families and several transmission options, while the India-spec Bayon announced on 12 October 2026 has one 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a six-speed manual or IVT. The Bayon could suit buyers who value its newly announced display and voice-technology package, but its India price, final trim equipment, dimensions, luggage capacity and matched safety specification were not established before its scheduled 26 October 2026 launch.
What is actually confirmed before the Bayon launch?
This comparison is about India-market vehicles. Hyundai Motor India announced the India-spec Bayon on 12 October 2026 and scheduled its launch for 26 October 2026. At the time of that announcement, the company had not published the complete India trim-by-trim equipment list or final launch pricing in the material available for this comparison.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
That distinction matters because a vehicle announcement can describe a model family or headline features without establishing which variant includes each item. Until Hyundai publishes the final brochure and price list, claims about Bayon delivery timing, on-road cost, variant equipment, boot space or an India-specific safety rating should be treated as unconfirmed.

Hyundai Motor India Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg described the Bayon as an “Intelligent Utility Vehicle” that puts technology and convenience at the centre of the customer experience. That is the company’s positioning statement, not an independent verdict on ride quality, value or safety.
Powertrain choice: Creta offers breadth, Bayon offers simplicity
| Vehicle and market | Engine information | Published transmissions | What this means for a buyer |
|---|---|---|---|
| India Bayon, announced for 26 October 2026 | Four-cylinder 1.5-litre MPi naturally aspirated petrol; 115 PS (84.4 kW) and 144 Nm | Six-speed manual or Hyundai IVT | One petrol output and two gearbox choices make the range easier to understand, but there is no diesel or turbo option in the announced specification. |
| India Creta, current official specification page | 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol | Naturally aspirated petrol: six-speed manual or IVT; diesel: six-speed manual or six-speed automatic; turbo-petrol: seven-speed DCT | More combinations let buyers prioritize fuel type, automatic technology or turbo-petrol performance, subject to the availability of the exact variant. |
The engine list establishes choice, not superiority. The available sources do not provide comparable official India fuel-economy, acceleration, noise, reliability or real-world performance testing for the two SUVs. It would therefore be misleading to call one faster, more economical or more dependable solely from displacement, cylinder count or transmission type.
When the Creta’s range is useful
- You want a diesel option: the Creta specification page lists a 1.5-litre diesel; the announced Bayon powertrain does not.
- You need to choose among automatic designs: Creta buyers can select an IVT, a conventional six-speed automatic listed for the diesel, or a seven-speed DCT with the turbo-petrol, depending on variant. The Bayon announcement identifies an IVT.
- You are replacing a particular type of vehicle: a buyer moving from a manual diesel, naturally aspirated petrol or turbo-petrol can look for a closer match within the documented Creta line-up.
- You have different drivers in the household: the ability to choose a manual or several automatic types may make it easier to match driving experience and traffic conditions, although each candidate still needs a test drive.
When Bayon’s simpler line-up may help
The announced Bayon removes some of the engine-selection work: the published India powertrain is one 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with either a six-speed manual or IVT. That can be attractive if your priorities are a familiar petrol engine and a straightforward manual-versus-automatic decision. It does not establish how the Bayon will perform against any particular Creta variant, because the final vehicle weight, gearing, equipment and independent test data were not supplied.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIts single-output strategy can also make a shortlist easier for a buyer who does not want to compare diesel maintenance, turbo-petrol response and multiple gearbox calibrations. That is a purchasing preference, not evidence that the Bayon will be cheaper to run or more reliable.
Transmission choices are not interchangeable
An IVT, a six-speed automatic and a seven-speed DCT are different technologies. Their operating feel, response and suitability for heavy traffic or frequent highway use can differ, so comparing the labels alone is not enough.
- Identify whether you are considering a manual, IVT, torque-converter-style automatic or DCT.
- Drive the exact engine-and-gearbox combination, not a different showroom variant.
- Test low-speed creep, parking manoeuvres, a full-throttle merge and a steady highway section if possible.
- Ask the dealer which gearbox is fitted to the quoted trim and whether the quoted price includes every required safety and convenience feature.
- Check how the transmission behaves with the air conditioner running and with passengers aboard; a brief solo drive may not represent your normal load.
The Bayon announcement confirms a six-speed manual and IVT, while the Creta’s listed transmission depends on engine choice. A test drive is therefore essential before treating either SUV as the better automatic choice.

Technology and cabin equipment: Bayon has a strong headline, but trim proof is pending
Hyundai Motor India describes the announced Bayon with dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays. It also reports a multi-language interface supporting 10 regional languages plus two international languages, and more than 500 embedded voice commands. These are manufacturer-described product features.
The announcement does not establish whether both displays, every language or the complete voice-command set will be standard on every India trim. Confirm the equipment on the exact variant you can buy. Check screen size, navigation or smartphone integration, camera systems, audio hardware, charging ports and connected-service terms in the final brochure rather than assuming that a headline feature applies across the range.
Ask how connected services work after any complimentary period, which functions need a paired phone or data connection, and whether software updates are delivered remotely or through a dealer. Those questions affect day-to-day usefulness but cannot be answered from the headline display description.
Hyundai Europe’s separate all-new Bayon material discusses additional driver-assistance equipment, including a 360-degree Surround View Monitor, Blind-Spot View Monitor and Highway Driving Assist 2. Those statements refer to the European model. They are not evidence that an India Bayon trim will include the same systems.
The reviewed India Creta specifications page confirms engines and transmissions but does not provide a complete, directly comparable trim-equipment matrix. As a result, neither SUV can be named the India technology winner until equivalent variants are documented.

No adequate matched India safety-feature table was established for Bayon and Creta in the available official material. Do not infer the winner from a screen count, a European press release or a model’s position in a manufacturer’s range.

Before booking, request the final India brochure and verify, for the exact trim:
- Airbag count and locations.
- Electronic stability control, traction control and related braking systems.
- Reversing camera, parking sensors and any surround-view system.
- Autonomous emergency braking, lane-assistance, blind-spot monitoring and adaptive cruise features, if offered.
- Whether each feature is standard, optional, restricted to a higher trim or unavailable.
- An independently published crash-test result for the same market and model year, if one exists.
A safety rating from another country or a different body style cannot be transferred automatically to the India vehicle. Confirm the market, model year and test configuration.
Also ask whether the quoted vehicle has the same wheel, tyre and spare-wheel specification as the demonstrator. Changes in equipment can affect the comparison, and a demonstration car may be a higher trim than the one in your written offer.
Size, rear-seat room and luggage: do not import foreign-market numbers
Market-specific dimensions illustrate why a direct India comparison cannot yet be made. Hyundai Europe lists the all-new European Bayon at 4,245 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. A 2025 Creta brochure for the Philippines market lists that market version at 4,330 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and with a 2,610 mm wheelbase.
| Published figure | Vehicle and market | Use in an India buying decision |
|---|---|---|
| 4,245 mm length; 1,810 mm width; 2,600 mm wheelbase | All-new Bayon, Hyundai Europe, 2026 | European data only; not an India Bayon specification. |
| 4,330 mm length; 1,790 mm width; 2,610 mm wheelbase | Creta, 2025 Philippines brochure | Philippines-market data only; not proof of India Creta dimensions. |
| 440 litres luggage capacity for internal-combustion versions; 397 litres for the hybrid | European Bayon product information | European figures; the hybrid figure concerns a planned European version and does not establish India capacity. |
Hyundai Europe says its new Bayon will have 1.0 T-GDI internal-combustion versions and a planned 1.6-litre hybrid expected to produce 138 PS. European performance and emissions figures remain subject to homologation. None of those details fills the missing India dimensions, boot volume or powertrain information.
How to check practicality yourself
- Ask for the India Bayon’s official length, width, height, wheelbase and luggage volume in the final brochure.
- Measure whether the driver’s seat can be set comfortably without compromising rear-knee room.
- Place your own child seat, suitcase, stroller or work equipment in the luggage area.
- Check the loading lip, seat-folding mechanism and whether a full-size spare wheel changes usable space.
- Repeat the same checks in the Creta trim and engine variant you are actually considering.
- Have rear passengers enter and exit from both sides, then check headroom with the front seats set for the tallest regular driver.
Price and value: wait for equivalent on-road quotes
The reviewed India announcement did not establish the Bayon’s launch price, variant pricing or on-road cost. Without those figures, a value verdict would be speculative. The Creta’s price also needs to be compared by exact engine, transmission, trim, registration location, insurance and optional equipment rather than by a single headline number.

After the Bayon launch, obtain written on-road quotations for a Bayon trim and a Creta trim that match as closely as possible on transmission, airbags, active safety, displays, camera systems, climate control and warranty terms. Compare the total payable amount, not only the ex-showroom figure. Ask whether any introductory offer is one-time, location-specific or conditional on financing.
Do not treat a lower initial quote as a proven lower ownership cost. No independent fuel, maintenance, reliability or insurance-cost comparison was established for these two India vehicles. Instead, request the scheduled service intervals, warranty duration and exclusions, roadside-assistance coverage, insurance premium and prices for commonly replaced items. Record those figures for the exact engine and trim.
Hyundai India’s announcement documents booking channels and a booking amount, but the announcement alone does not establish affiliate terms, dealer discounts or guaranteed delivery. Use only the official booking route or a dealer whose identity and refund conditions are clear, and retain the receipt.
Which SUV fits each type of buyer?
| Your priority | Evidence-based lean | What remains to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum engine and gearbox choice | Creta, because Hyundai officially lists three engine families and multiple transmission combinations. | Whether the specific Creta variant you want is currently available and how its price compares after the Bayon launch. |
| A single petrol powertrain with a manual or IVT decision | Bayon may be easier to shortlist, based on its announced India specification. | Final Bayon variant pricing, equipment, dimensions and delivery timing. |
| Large display and voice-control technology | Bayon is the model with the announced dual 12.3-inch display and voice-command description. | Which trims receive the equipment and whether the Creta trim offers equivalent functionality. |
| Diesel availability | Creta, because its current India specification page lists a 1.5-litre diesel. | Fuel, service and usage suitability for your driving pattern; no comparative ownership-cost evidence was established. |
| Known luggage and rear-seat requirements | Neither can be selected from the foreign-market figures alone. | India brochures and a physical check with your passengers and cargo. |
| Safety equipment certainty | Neither has a documented advantage from the material reviewed. | Matched India trim equipment and an applicable independent crash-test result. |
| Lowest purchase price | Undetermined. | Bayon launch pricing, Creta quote, registration state, insurance and equivalent equipment. |
A practical buying process after 26 October 2026
- Download the final India Bayon brochure and price list. Record every trim, engine, gearbox, display, safety system, wheel size and warranty item.
- Confirm the current Creta line-up. Ask which engine-and-transmission combinations are orderable in your city, rather than relying on an older web listing.
- Build an apples-to-apples shortlist. Match automatic with automatic or manual with manual, then match safety and convenience equipment before comparing prices.
- Obtain written on-road quotations. Include registration, insurance, handling or accessories only when they are clearly itemized and legally applicable.
- Inspect both vehicles in person. Check seating position, rear access, visibility, luggage loading and the operation of every control you use daily.
- Test-drive the exact variants. Drive the same route in each, including a congested section, a speed breaker, a parking manoeuvre and an open-road merge.
- Verify safety and ownership terms. Request the feature list, service schedule, warranty exclusions and roadside-assistance terms in writing.
- Recheck delivery status. The Bayon launch date is scheduled, but a launch announcement alone does not guarantee stock of every trim in every city.
Questions to ask the dealer before paying a booking amount
- What is the exact variant code, engine and transmission on this quotation?
- Which listed safety systems are fitted to this vehicle, and can you show them in the brochure?
- Is the displayed car the same trim as the car being booked?
- What is the refundable amount and the cancellation process if the final price or equipment differs?
- What delivery date applies to this colour and trim in this city?
- Are accessories, extended warranty or insurance included, optional or financed separately?
- Which connected features require a subscription after any complimentary period?
Written answers reduce the risk of comparing a heavily accessorised demonstrator with a lower trim or relying on a verbal promise that is absent from the order form.
Common comparison mistakes to avoid
- Using European Bayon specifications as Indian facts: the European engine range, dimensions, luggage figures and planned hybrid are separate-market information.
- Using Philippines Creta dimensions for India: the brochure figures identify a Philippines-market version.
- Treating manufacturer feature descriptions as independent tests: the 115 PS, 144 Nm, display and voice-command figures are published product information, not comparative performance evidence.
- Declaring a safety winner from a model name: equipment can vary by trim and market.
- Comparing an entry Creta with a top Bayon, or vice versa: first match transmission, airbags, driver assistance and convenience equipment.
- Assuming launch timing equals immediate availability: ask the dealer for a written allocation and expected handover date.
- Assuming all automatics feel alike: an IVT, six-speed automatic and DCT should each be evaluated in the exact vehicle.
- Counting screen size as total value: confirm whether the software, cameras, connectivity and safety hardware you need are actually included.
Decision checklist
Choose the Creta when its documented engine and transmission breadth solves a requirement you already have, such as a diesel powertrain or a particular automatic type. Choose the Bayon only after its India launch documents confirm that the technology, space, safety equipment and price meet your needs in the specific trim you can order.
- Have you selected the fuel type and gearbox you actually want?
- Have you compared equivalent India trims rather than foreign-market specifications?
- Have you verified airbags and active-safety equipment in writing?
- Have you tested rear-seat comfort and luggage space with your own use case?
- Have you compared complete on-road quotations?
- Have you confirmed delivery for the exact colour and variant?
- Have you checked warranty, service and connected-feature conditions?

Which has more engine options, Bayon or Creta?
The Creta has more documented choice. Hyundai India’s specification page lists 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-litre diesel and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines. The announced India Bayon has one 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine rated at 115 PS and 144 Nm.
Does the Bayon offer an automatic transmission?
Yes. The India announcement lists a Hyundai IVT as well as a six-speed manual. The final trim-by-trim availability should be confirmed in the launch brochure.
Can European Bayon dimensions or safety features be used for the India model?
No. Hyundai Europe’s Bayon has separate engines, dimensions and equipment. Its figures, including 4,245 mm length and discussed driver-assistance systems, do not establish India specifications.

Does the Creta have a diesel option?
Hyundai India’s current specification page lists a 1.5-litre diesel, with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic depending on variant. Confirm which combinations are orderable in your location.
Which SUV has the larger boot?
There is no confirmed India-market comparison in the cited material. European Bayon luggage figures and a Philippines-market Creta brochure describe different markets and should not be used as India measurements.
Is the Bayon safer than the Creta?
No evidence-based winner can be declared from the available matched India information. Check airbags, electronic stability systems, active assistance and an applicable independent crash-test result for the exact trim and model year.
Should I book the Bayon before the launch?
Wait for the final brochure, price, equipment list and written booking terms unless you are comfortable with the dealer’s cancellation and refund conditions. A scheduled launch does not guarantee immediate stock of every variant.

The Bottom Line
For India, the Creta is the safer provisional recommendation because its three documented engine families and multiple transmissions cover more buyer requirements. The Bayon is worth considering for its announced 1.5-litre petrol simplicity and dual 12.3-inch technology package, but wait for the 26 October 2026 launch details. Compare equivalent trims, India-specific safety equipment, verified dimensions and complete on-road prices before choosing.
