There is no evidence-based overall winner yet. Hyundai has announced an all-new BAYON N Line for Europe, but has not published its final UK price, homologated performance figures or complete UK equipment list. Ford’s current UK Puma ST-Line has a published specification and price, so it is the better-defined new-car benchmark for a buyer shopping today. That is an evidence and availability conclusion, not a driving-test verdict.
The answer changes depending on whether you mean the forthcoming all-new BAYON N Line or the previous UK BAYON range. This guide separates those cars, shows what can be compared now and gives you a like-for-like checklist for the point when Hyundai releases final UK details.

First, resolve the BAYON N Line model-year confusion
Hyundai’s UK range announced on 11 December 2025 used the names Black Line and Tech Line; it did not use an N Line trim. Hyundai then announced an all-new BAYON, including an N Line version, in October 2026. The announcement is European and warns that equipment varies by market and version. It does not give a UK launch date or UK price, and its performance and efficiency figures remain subject to final homologation.
Consequently, “Hyundai Bayon N Line versus Ford Puma ST-Line” can describe two different shopping decisions:

- A future, new all-new BAYON N Line against a current new Puma ST-Line.
- A used or previous-generation BAYON with an N Line-style specification, if a particular market or seller uses that description, against a new or used Puma ST-Line.
The first comparison is the relevant one for the announced car. The second requires checking the exact registration year, engine, transmission and country specification on the individual vehicle; a trim name alone is not enough.
What is actually confirmed for UK buyers?
| Item | Ford Puma ST-Line | All-new Hyundai BAYON N Line |
|---|---|---|
| UK status | Current UK product and price information available. | Announced for Europe in October 2026; final UK specification and timing not published. |
| Comparable new-car price | £28,045 recommended on-the-road price for the 125PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost mild-hybrid manual; Ford price list effective 5 August 2026. | Not stated for the UK. |
| Powertrain information | 125PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost mild hybrid, with six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic. | Final UK engine, output and transmission not stated. |
| Official economy | Up to 52.3 mpg WLTP combined for the 125PS manual; manufacturer test-cycle figure. | Not yet homologated or published for the UK. |
| Boot capacity | Up to 456 litres with the rear seats up, including the 80-litre MegaBox; 1,216 litres with the seats folded. | Hyundai describes more space for the all-new model, but a final UK luggage figure is not stated. |
| Safety evidence | Four-star Euro NCAP rating from 2022, with 75% adult occupant, 84% child occupant, 70% vulnerable road user and 69% safety assist scores. | No final UK-market Euro NCAP result is stated in the announcement. |
| Equipment highlights | Exact standard equipment depends on the UK ST-Line specification and selected options. | Announcement highlights N Line styling, 18-inch wheels, black cladding, a rear diffuser treatment, N Line cloth/textile-suede seats and available dual 12.3-inch displays with wireless phone integration; availability by UK version is unconfirmed. |
This table is deliberately uneven: Ford has saleable UK data, while Hyundai has a product announcement. Treating an unpriced, unhomologated vehicle as if it were already a UK showroom rival would create a false precision.
Ford Puma ST-Line: the established UK baseline
Engine and transmissions
The current UK ST-Line can be specified with Ford’s 125PS 1.0-litre EcoBoost mild-hybrid system. A six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic are available. Ford lists 210Nm of engine torque and a 50Nm electric boost, and quotes 0–62mph in 9.8 seconds for the 125PS manual. Those are manufacturer specifications for the stated configuration, not independent acceleration testing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →The automatic is not automatically equivalent to the manual for economy, acceleration or price. If you are comparing against the future BAYON, match transmission type first, then compare the final output, emissions and equipment for each exact version.
Fuel economy and the WLTP caveat
Ford’s maximum published combined figure is 52.3mpg WLTP for the 125PS manual. WLTP is a standardised laboratory test intended to make vehicles comparable under the same test protocol; it is not a promise of the mileage every owner will achieve. Traffic, temperature, speed, tyres, load and driving style can all change consumption. Hyundai’s final UK WLTP and CO2 data will be needed before any meaningful efficiency comparison.

Boot design rather than litres alone
The Puma’s headline advantage is not just its quoted volume. Ford says the ST-Line provides up to 456 litres behind the rear seats, counting an 80-litre MegaBox, and 1,216 litres with the seats folded. The MegaBox is a waterproof underfloor compartment with a drain plug, useful for muddy footwear, wet equipment or items you want separated from the main luggage area.
When Hyundai publishes the all-new BAYON’s dimensions and loading measurements, compare the shape and access of the space as well as the maximum number. A nominally larger boot can be less useful if its floor, opening or seat-fold arrangement does not suit your pram, cases, dog crate or sports gear.

Safety context
Ford’s product information records a four-star Euro NCAP result for the Puma from 2022: 75% adult occupant protection, 84% child occupant protection, 70% vulnerable road user protection and 69% safety assist. This is a historical assessment made under the test protocol and equipment configuration applicable at that time. It should not be treated as a complete prediction of the all-new BAYON’s result, nor as proof that one car is safer in every crash scenario.
What Hyundai has announced about the all-new BAYON N Line
Exterior and cabin identity
Hyundai says the N Line version will have a stronger visual link to its performance-oriented range, including 18-inch wheels, black cladding and rear-diffuser styling. The release also describes N Line-specific cloth/textile-suede seats. These details explain the trim’s design purpose, but they do not establish ride comfort, tyre costs, cabin space or handling; no independent road test is available here.
Displays and phone connectivity
The announcement says dual 12.3-inch displays and wireless phone integration are available depending on specification. “Available” is not the same as “standard on every UK N Line”. Ask the retailer for the UK equipment list and identify whether the feature is standard, part of a pack, optional or restricted to a higher version.

Claims about space and comfort
Hyundai’s Xavier Martinet, President and CEO of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: “The all-new BAYON is much more than an update. We have strengthened its SUV character with a bolder design, more space, more comfort and technologies that customers would normally expect from larger vehicles.” This is Hyundai’s description of its product direction. Until UK dimensions, seat measurements and a published boot figure arrive, it should not be converted into a numerical advantage over the Puma.

Where the previous UK BAYON fits
The December 2025 revised UK BAYON is a separate, documented reference point. Hyundai listed a 1.0-litre 90PS turbo-petrol engine, with a manual or seven-speed DCT. The manual was quoted at 11.9 seconds from 0–62mph and the DCT at 13.3 seconds. Its published luggage capacity was 411 litres with the seats up and 1,205 litres with them folded.
| Revised UK BAYON range announced December 2025 | Black Line manual | Tech Line manual |
|---|---|---|
| Recommended on-the-road price | £23,795 | £25,295 |
| Engine | 1.0-litre 90PS turbo petrol | 1.0-litre 90PS turbo petrol |
| Transmission options | Manual or seven-speed DCT range availability | Manual or seven-speed DCT range availability |
Those prices and specifications belong to the 2025 revised range. They are not prices or specifications for the newly announced BAYON N Line, and they should not be used to claim that the forthcoming car undercuts the Puma.
Hyundai’s Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, called the Black Line and Tech Line introduction “one of the best-value compact crossovers on the market.” That is a manufacturer promotional claim about the 2025 range, not independent evidence of comparative value.
Is the Puma ST-Line worth more?
Against the only fully priced new configuration in this evidence set, the Puma’s £28,045 manual price buys a known UK specification, a specified mild-hybrid powertrain, published WLTP data and a documented storage solution. Whether that premium is worthwhile depends on the final BAYON N Line price and what Hyundai includes as standard.

Do not compare the Puma’s OTR figure with an older BAYON list price without adjusting for:
- Model year and whether the vehicle is new, pre-registered or used.
- Engine output and transmission.
- Standard safety, navigation, display and phone-connectivity equipment.
- Metallic paint, option packs, delivery charges and dealer promotions.
- Finance deposit, interest rate, term and any final payment, which can change the total paid even when the cash price is identical.
A lower list price is not automatically better value if it requires expensive options to match the Puma’s equipment. Conversely, a higher price may be justified for equipment or storage you would otherwise buy separately. The comparison must use the final, like-for-like UK build.
Which has the bigger boot?
On published figures, the Puma has the larger documented capacity against the December 2025 BAYON: 456 litres versus 411 litres with the seats raised, and 1,216 litres versus 1,205 litres with them folded. The Puma’s 80-litre MegaBox is included in its seats-up figure and adds a washable, drainable space below the main floor.
That is a comparison with the previous UK BAYON specification, not with the all-new N Line. Hyundai says the new vehicle has more space, but has not supplied a final UK number. Therefore, the honest answer for the forthcoming N Line is “not yet established”; the honest answer against the 2025 BAYON specification is that the Puma has the bigger published boot in both configurations.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsHow to compare the cars when Hyundai releases UK data
- Match the market and model year. Use UK vehicles and confirm whether each is the current model, a pre-facelift car or the all-new BAYON.
- Match transmissions. Compare manual with manual and automatic with automatic. Record gear count and whether the hybrid system differs.
- Record the complete OTR price. Include paint, packs, delivery charges and every item fitted to the quote, not just the advertised starting figure.
- Compare power and performance. Note horsepower, torque, 0–62mph and the exact configuration tested or quoted. Keep manufacturer figures separate from independent tests.
- Compare WLTP economy and CO2 together. Write down the test-cycle result, test version and any wheel or tyre effect. Do not present WLTP as guaranteed real-world mileage.
- Measure practical capacity. Check seats-up and seats-folded litres, floor height, opening width, underfloor storage and whether a spare wheel changes the layout.
- List standard driver assistance. Identify what is included on the exact trim and what requires a pack. Safety-assistance scores cannot replace checking the equipment fitted to the car you are buying.
- Check infotainment hardware. Confirm screen sizes, wired or wireless phone integration, navigation, USB ports and software-update arrangements in the UK specification.
- Check ownership terms. Obtain the warranty, service schedule, roadside assistance, insurance group and consumable prices for the exact engine and wheel combination.
- Re-check before signing. Ford’s prices and Hyundai’s specifications can change. Use both manufacturers’ UK configurators and the written quotation on the day you order.
Which one should you choose today?
Choose the Puma ST-Line if you need a defined new-car decision
The Puma is the practical choice for a buyer who needs to order a currently specified UK vehicle. Its price, powertrain choices, WLTP figure, boot arrangement and 2022 Euro NCAP result are documented. You can still decide whether the specification suits you, but you are not budgeting around an unannounced UK price or waiting for homologation.

Wait for the BAYON N Line if Hyundai’s design and equipment appeal matters more than certainty
Waiting is rational if you specifically want the N Line appearance, the announced cabin treatment or Hyundai’s promised increase in space. Before placing a deposit, require a UK price, a final equipment list, official emissions and economy data, luggage measurements and delivery timing. Without those documents, any claim that it is cheaper, faster, more economical or better equipped than the Puma is speculation.
Consider the revised 2025 BAYON only as a separate used-car comparison
If you are looking at a 2025-range BAYON, compare the individual car’s Black Line or Tech Line trim, engine and gearbox with the used Puma you are considering. The published 90PS figures and luggage measurements can frame the comparison, but condition, mileage, warranty and transaction price will decide whether that particular used car makes sense.
Common comparison mistakes
- Assuming N Line was a 2025 UK trim. The documented UK names then were Black Line and Tech Line.
- Using the old BAYON price for the new N Line. Hyundai has not published a UK N Line price.
- Treating a European announcement as a UK order guide. Hyundai explicitly says features vary by market and version.
- Calling WLTP real-world economy. It is a standardised test result and should remain labelled as such.
- Comparing boot litres without checking what is counted. The Puma’s seats-up figure includes the MegaBox.
- Using the Puma’s four-star rating as a complete safety verdict. It is a 2022 Euro NCAP result and does not predict the all-new BAYON’s rating.
- Confusing styling equipment with dynamic performance. Wheels, cladding, diffuser details and N Line upholstery describe appearance; they do not prove faster acceleration or sharper handling.
Verdict
For a UK buyer shopping for a new small SUV with verifiable information now, the Ford Puma ST-Line is the more fully specified benchmark. It has a published £28,045 OTR price for the 125PS manual, known transmission choices, manufacturer economy and performance figures, and a clearly described boot with the MegaBox.
The all-new Hyundai BAYON N Line cannot yet be declared better or worse. Its UK price, final specification, homologated economy and performance, luggage measurements and launch timing are still missing. Once Hyundai publishes them, use the like-for-like checklist above rather than relying on the N Line badge or a headline starting price.
