The Hyundai Bayon’s published boot capacity depends on which generation you mean. The established UK-market Bayon is listed with 411 litres behind the rear seats and 1,205 litres with them folded. The all-new Bayon announced for October 2026 is listed with 440 litres, although Hyundai describes the internal-combustion version’s figure as projected. Neither specification proves that a particular suitcase, pushchair or bicycle will fit: opening dimensions and load-floor measurements are not published in the cited Hyundai data.
Use the figures below to identify your car, then measure your largest item and the vehicle before relying on a claimed fit.

First identify the Bayon generation
Hyundai’s figures are not interchangeable. The June 2024 UK technical sheet and December 2025 UK revised-trim release describe the established Bayon generation. Hyundai’s October 2026 announcement and current all-new Bayon page describe a larger, different-generation vehicle. A used-car advert, review or forum post may therefore show a number that is correct for another Bayon.

The all-new car is 65 mm longer and has a 20 mm longer wheelbase on the published figures. Its stated width is 35 mm greater, but the established figure explicitly includes mirrors while the all-new page does not repeat that measurement definition, so do not treat the width difference as a precise like-for-like clearance gain.

Established UK Bayon: dimensions and luggage capacity
For the established UK model, Hyundai lists an overall length of 4,180 mm, width of 1,775 mm including mirrors, height of 1,500 mm and wheelbase of 2,580 mm. The same UK data list 411 litres with the rear seats in use and 1,205 litres when they are folded.
What the 411-litre figure represents
411 litres is a volume measurement for the luggage compartment in its normal, seats-up configuration. It does not specify the length of the floor, the narrowest width between trim panels, the height of the aperture or the shape around the wheel arches. Two boots with the same litre rating can therefore accept very different objects.
What happens when the seats fold
The established car has a 60:40 split-folding rear bench. Folding one section leaves the other available for a passenger; folding both sections creates the stated 1,205-litre maximum luggage volume. Hyundai’s cited specifications do not establish that the resulting load floor is completely flat, so allow for a step or slope when planning long cargo.
All-new Bayon (October 2026): what changes
Hyundai Motor Group announced the all-new Bayon at the Paris Motor Show in October 2026. Hyundai UK lists the new vehicle at 4,245 mm long, 1,810 mm wide and 1,570 mm high when fitted with 18-inch wheels and roof rails, with a 2,600 mm wheelbase. The page lists a 440-litre boot and 60:40 folding rear seats. Hyundai describes the internal-combustion version’s capacity as projected, so treat 440 litres as the manufacturer’s current published projection rather than an independently verified measurement.

The new car’s 440-litre seats-up figure is 29 litres greater than the established model’s 411 litres. That is a useful increase for soft luggage, but it is not enough information to guarantee that a tall or rigid object will pass through the opening. The cited all-new page also identifies a stowable luggage-compartment cover; it does not publish a folded-seat volume or confirm a completely flat floor.
Hyundai Motor Europe president and CEO Xavier Martinet described the change this way: “The all-new BAYON is much more than an update,” adding that Hyundai had strengthened its “SUV character with a bolder design, more space, more comfort and technologies that customers would normally expect from larger vehicles.” That is Hyundai’s product positioning, not an independent luggage test.
Why litres cannot tell you whether an item fits
A litre rating describes three-dimensional volume, not the shape of the available space. A square box may use the space efficiently while a stroller with protruding wheels may not. A long item can also fail at the hatch opening even when its calculated volume is well below the published capacity.

- Boot-floor length with the seats up or folded.
- Usable width between the wheel arches.
- Load-opening width and height.
- Vertical clearance to the roof or luggage cover.
- The exact geometry of the folded-seat load floor.
For that reason, it would be misleading to label a specific suitcase, bicycle, pushchair or piece of furniture as a confirmed fit from the litre figure alone. A hands-on check or matching measurements are needed.
How to check a bulky item before travelling
- Measure the item in its transport form. Record its longest dimension, greatest width and greatest height. Include wheels, handles, pedals, packaging and any part that cannot be removed.
- Check whether it can be rotated. Measure again in the orientation you expect to use. An item may be short enough but too wide to turn through the hatch.
- Identify the Bayon generation and equipment. Use the registration or vehicle documents, then confirm the model year and trim. Roof rails, wheel size and interior fittings can affect the clearance you actually have.
- Measure the car’s access points. Measure the hatch opening at its narrowest point, the opening height, the boot-floor length and the width between the wheel arches. Hyundai does not state these dimensions in the cited technical material, so obtain them from your own car or a physical inspection.
- Account for the luggage cover and seat position. Remove or stow the cover only if the vehicle’s instructions allow it. With a 60:40 bench, decide whether one rear seat must remain usable and measure that partial-fold arrangement.
- Test the real item where possible. A showroom demonstration or a test with your own vehicle is more reliable than comparing litre ratings. Protect the trim and keep the load secured so it cannot move under braking.
Using the 60:40 rear seats intelligently
One-person-plus-cargo journeys
Folding the larger section usually provides the most continuous space while retaining a rear passenger on the remaining section. The exact usable shape depends on the seatback and boot floor; do not assume the folded portion aligns perfectly with the floor.
Two or more passengers
Keep the required seating positions in place and use the 411-litre established-model compartment or the all-new model’s projected 440 litres as a volume guide only. Arrange heavy items low and against the seatback, then secure them so they cannot become projectiles.

Long loads
Check the distance from the hatch to the front seatbacks with the rear seats folded. The official figures establish total volume but not this length, and the seat-fold mechanism may leave a raised transition. Measure before buying or collecting a long item.

Dimensions for parking and everyday use
The established Bayon’s 4,180 mm length and 1,775 mm mirror-to-mirror width are the relevant figures for garage and parking checks. For the all-new model, use 4,245 mm length and 1,810 mm stated width, remembering that the published width definitions are not identical. The new car’s 1,570 mm height figure includes 18-inch wheels and roof rails; a different wheel or roof-rail configuration may have a different official height.
Wheelbase is 2,580 mm on the established model and 2,600 mm on the all-new one. Wheelbase helps explain cabin and axle spacing, but it is not a boot-floor length and should not be substituted for one when checking a long object.
How to compare a Bayon with another vehicle
Make comparisons only when the market, model year, seat position and measurement method match. A sound comparison table should show:
- Seats-up boot volume.
- Seats-folded volume, only where it is published for the same version.
- Exterior length and width, with each manufacturer’s measurement definition.
- Rear-seat split and whether a load cover or adjustable floor is included.
- Whether the figure is final, projected, or tied to a particular powertrain.
Do not combine Hyundai’s stated litre figure with a competitor’s independently measured floor dimensions and present the result as an equivalent test. Manufacturer volume methods can differ, so a higher number does not automatically mean a wider hatch or a more useful shape.

UK trim, model-year and specification checks
The figures above are UK-market information. Hyundai says features and specifications can vary by trim and may be updated. Before relying on a dimension, confirm the exact vehicle’s model year, engine or powertrain, wheel and roof-rail configuration, and whether the quoted capacity applies to that version.
If you are buying a used Bayon, ask for the registration number and inspect the boot rather than copying a number from a newer all-new Bayon listing. If you are ordering the 2026 vehicle, ask the retailer whether the quoted 440 litres is the projected internal-combustion specification and whether a final homologated figure is available for your chosen version.
Boot liners and cargo protection
A boot liner can protect the carpet from muddy equipment, spills and scuffs, but fit is generation-specific. If you search for a “Hyundai Bayon boot liner,” confirm the exact model year and generation before ordering. The published litre ratings identify the cargo area; they do not verify that any particular aftermarket liner fits around the wheel arches, seatback split or luggage-cover mounts.
