There is no universal winner. Choose the Kia Carens Clavis if your priority is a seven-seat family-MPV layout, a lower currently advertised entry price and three engine choices. Choose the Hyundai Alcazar if you prefer an SUV format, want the choice of six or seven seats, or find its available equipment and local support a better fit.
This comparison uses Kia’s current Carens Clavis as the Kia counterpart. If you mean an earlier Carens, compare the exact model year and trim instead. Prices, equipment and gearbox availability vary by variant, so a showroom assessment with your passengers and normal luggage matters more than the model names.

What exactly are you comparing?
Kia’s current Indian model is the Carens Clavis, described by Kia as a seven-seater family car. Independent comparison coverage characterises it as an MPV. Hyundai positions the Alcazar as a six- and seven-seat SUV. Those labels describe the vehicles’ intended format; they do not prove that one has a more comfortable third row.

Size and body format: SUV versus MPV
The exterior dimensions are close enough that parking and garage fit should not decide the purchase by themselves. Hyundai lists the Alcazar at 4,560 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,710 mm high on its highlights page. Autocar India lists the Clavis at 4,550 × 1,800 × 1,708 mm and gives it a 2,780 mm wheelbase, compared with 2,760 mm for the Alcazar, in its comparison.

A longer wheelbase can influence how space is allocated between rows, but published exterior numbers cannot establish knee room, seat-cushion length, headroom, air circulation or luggage capacity with all seats occupied. Treat the numbers as a parking and packaging reference, not a comfort verdict.
Seating: six or seven seats, and how your family will use them
Alcazar’s two layouts
The Alcazar is offered as both a six-seater and a seven-seater. The exact second-row arrangement, access to the third row and the equipment bundled with each layout must be checked on the chosen trim. A six-seat cabin may make movement between seats easier for some families, while a seven-seat bench can be more useful when you regularly carry an additional passenger. Neither assumption replaces sitting in the actual vehicle.
Clavis seven-seat configuration
The Clavis is presented as a seven-seater. Check how the second row slides or folds, whether an adult can reach the rearmost seats without awkward climbing, and how much usable width remains when child seats are installed. The model’s seven-seat label means seven designated places; it is not a guarantee that seven adults will have equal comfort on a long trip.

A practical family fit test
Take the people who will use the car most often to both showrooms. Perform the same sequence in each exact variant:
- Set the driver’s seat for the tallest regular driver and have that person sit in it.
- Install or position your child seats in the intended row. Check ISOFIX access, buckle reach and whether the front seats can still be adjusted.
- Ask the second-row passenger to enter and exit while the third row is occupied. Note the effort required for children, older adults and anyone with limited mobility.
- Place every regular passenger in their normal position. Check knee room, head clearance, shoulder room, ventilation reach and visibility rather than judging from an empty showroom car.
- Load the pram, school bags, groceries or suitcases you actually carry. Test the boot with all seven seats in use, then with the third row folded.
- Repeat the exercise after moving the second row to its most comfortable position. This shows the trade-off between passenger space and luggage space.
No published measurement establishes third-row comfort, child-seat usability in every row or all-seats-up luggage volume on a like-for-like basis. Your fit test is therefore a required buying step, not an optional tie-breaker.
Engines and transmissions
Compare equivalent fuel and gearbox combinations. A turbo-petrol automatic in one model is not a fair reference for a naturally aspirated petrol manual in the other.

Kia’s additional naturally aspirated petrol gives buyers another way to prioritise simpler performance characteristics or an entry variant, but published material does not establish comparative acceleration, refinement or fuel use. The two ranges overlap on turbo-petrol and diesel choices in some configurations. Compare petrol with petrol, diesel with diesel and automatic with automatic if that is how your family will drive.

No matched, same-condition real-world economy test is published. Autocar publishes selected official or test values for particular variants, but those figures are not a controlled comparison across equivalent Clavis and Alcazar powertrains. Ask for the exact certified economy figure for the quoted variant, then treat your own route, traffic, passenger load and air-conditioning use as the deciding factors.
Price and variant value in India
Current advertised Kia prices
Kia’s current Clavis showroom page lists an ex-showroom starting price of ₹11,38,900 and ₹21,78,900 for the top GTX+ 7 after the GST cut. These are advertised ex-showroom figures, not the amount you will pay on the road. Registration, insurance, taxes, accessories and dealer charges differ by state and transaction.
Why the Alcazar number must be refreshed
No current official Hyundai ex-showroom figure is published alongside Kia’s live advertised price. Obtain a dated quotation from a Hyundai dealer or the current official configurator in your state before comparing totals. An apparently cheaper sticker price can disappear once you match engine, automatic transmission, safety systems, insurance and registration.

For context only, CarDekho’s article published on May 24, 2025 reported introductory ex-showroom ranges of ₹11.50–21.50 lakh for the Clavis and ₹14.99–21.74 lakh for the Alcazar. Those ranges describe an earlier market moment and should not be used as a current offer or as evidence of today’s price gap.

For a meaningful budget comparison, request written on-road quotes for the same state, fuel type, transmission category and approximate equipment level. Include insurance coverage, extended warranty, accessories and finance charges separately so a discount does not conceal a higher total.

Clavis equipment claims
Kia says the Clavis has six airbags and 18 standard safety features. Its page also describes Level 2 ADAS with 20 functions. These are manufacturer descriptions of equipment and assistance functions; they are not a crash-test rating and do not show how the systems perform in every road or weather condition.
Alcazar equipment claims
Hyundai’s features information lists six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), vehicle stability management (VSM), hill-start assist control (HAC), a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear disc brakes and ISOFIX child-seat anchors across the listed range. Selected advanced assistance features depend on trim. Hyundai’s November 2024 brochure also shows trim- and powertrain-dependent equipment, so verify the current version before signing.

No current, directly comparable crash-test result for the exact Indian-market versions is published. Do not rank either vehicle as safer overall from airbag or ADAS counts alone. Confirm which systems are standard on your selected variant, how they can be switched or adjusted, and what the owner’s manual says about child seats and sensor limitations.

Child-seat planning
ISOFIX anchors are useful only when the seat, child and vehicle position are compatible. Bring your own ISOFIX-compatible seat to the showroom if possible, check the anchor locations and top-tether routing, and follow the vehicle manual and the seat maker’s height and weight limits. Do not assume a seat will fit every row or that a third-row position has the same restraint options as the second row.
Ownership, servicing and daily usability
Long-term reliability and maintenance-cost differences are not established by the published information. Instead, compare the ownership realities you can verify locally:
- Service access: map the nearest authorised Hyundai and Kia workshops, their hours and the distance from home or work.
- Parts and downtime: ask how routine service appointments are scheduled and whether common consumables are normally stocked.
- Warranty terms: obtain the current written warranty, roadside-assistance coverage and exclusions for the exact variant.
- Transmission feel: drive the actual automatic or DCT in stop-start traffic, on an incline and while parking; do not infer behaviour from a brochure.
- Visibility and manoeuvring: test the camera view, sensors, turning space and ease of placing a fully occupied vehicle in your usual parking spot.
- Passenger ventilation: sit in the third row with the air-conditioning running and the second row occupied. Check whether airflow reaches every passenger without excessive fan noise.
Take notes on the variant code, quoted equipment, delivery estimate and on-road total. Dealers may display a higher or lower trim than the one you intend to buy, so photograph the specification sheet or ask for it by email.

Showroom checklist before you book
- Write down the exact model year, trim, fuel and gearbox for both vehicles.
- Request current ex-showroom and on-road prices in your registration state, with insurance and optional accessories itemised.
- Bring the family members who will occupy the second and third rows most often.
- Bring your child seat, measure its fit and confirm ISOFIX and top-tether access.
- Load your normal luggage and check the boot with seven seats in use.
- Drive both cars on the same route, including a rough patch, a tight parking area and stop-start traffic.
- Confirm which safety and driver-assistance functions are standard on the quoted trim and which are unavailable.
- Ask for written warranty, service-interval and roadside-assistance terms.
- Record delivery timing, cancellation terms and the final amount payable before paying a booking fee.
Which one is better for your family?
The Clavis is the more logical starting point for a family that wants a dedicated seven-seat MPV format, the current documented lower entry price and the flexibility of naturally aspirated petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engines. The Alcazar is the better starting point for a buyer who specifically wants an SUV, values a six-seat alternative or prefers its available trim equipment and local Hyundai support.
That recommendation remains conditional because the decisive evidence is personal: whether every passenger can enter and sit comfortably, whether your child seats fit, whether luggage remains usable and whether the matched on-road quote fits your budget. Complete those checks on the exact variants before treating either model as the family choice.
