The Luxeed S7 is a five-seat, battery-electric sedan developed through a Huawei–Chery collaboration. It shows how Huawei can bring software, cockpit and driver-assistance technology into a car made with an established automaker—but the available evidence does not establish Huawei as the car’s manufacturer or prove that alliances like this have transformed the wider industry. The current New S7 lineup starts at RMB 229,800 and offers a manufacturer-claimed maximum range of 855 km on the CLTC cycle.
What is the Luxeed S7?
The S7 is the sedan associated with Luxeed, a collaboration brand involving Chinese technology company Huawei and automaker Chery. The current official Luxeed materials describe a five-seat, pure-electric car with a 2,950 mm wheelbase. Its positioning combines vehicle development with Huawei-branded digital and assistance systems.
That distinction matters: calling the S7 a Huawei car can imply Huawei independently builds or owns the automaker. The available sources instead support a Huawei–Chery collaboration in which Huawei supplies prominent vehicle technologies and Chery is the automotive partner. They do not establish every contractual responsibility, the precise legal ownership structure, or the full division of manufacturing and sales duties.
Who makes the S7, and what does each partner contribute?
Contemporaneous launch reporting described Luxeed as a brand jointly created by Huawei and Chery, and the S7 as their first jointly created sedan. The same reporting said Huawei supplied the S7’s motors and identified Huawei technology including HarmonyOS 4 and its assisted-driving system. That supports a substantial technology role, but not the claim that Huawei alone manufactures the vehicle.

A Chery filing search excerpt from September 2025 describes collaboration with Huawei Device and its affiliates on the Luxeed S7 and R7, and procurement of driving-assistance systems, intelligent-cockpit systems and related automotive components from Huawei Technologies. Because the filing PDF was not directly accessible for verification, this detail should be treated cautiously. It points to technology supply as part of the relationship; it does not, by itself, settle how every task is divided or establish Luxeed sales, current production volumes, or Huawei’s total automotive revenue.
When did the Luxeed S7 debut?
- November 9, 2023: Huawei executive Richard Yu unveiled the S7 and pre-sales began, according to CnEVPost’s contemporaneous report. It described the sedan as the first jointly created by Huawei and an automaker.
- November 28, 2023: The S7 officially launched in Shanghai. CnEVPost reported four launch variants priced from RMB 249,800 to RMB 349,800. Those were launch-era prices and trims, not the current New S7 lineup. Richard Yu was reported as saying pre-sale orders had reached 20,000 by that date; that figure was an order count, not a delivery or sales total.
- April 11, 2024: CnEVPost reported a relaunch after delivery complaints and production difficulties. It said the entry model retained its RMB 249,800 price while other variants were reduced, and that the base battery increased from 62 kWh to 82 kWh, with reported CLTC range rising from 550 km to 705 km. The report also relayed statements from Huawei and Chery about improved production. These details describe that period, not current delivery times or output. Read the April 2024 relaunch report.
The current official Luxeed materials accessed on October 4, 2026, list three New S7 trims. Model names, prices and equipment can change; confirm the official configuration page for the latest listing.

The Max+ has the lineup’s highest official range claim. Luxeed says actual range varies with ambient temperature, road conditions, driving habits and operation, and battery service life, so the 855 km CLTC figure should not be read as a promise of everyday distance.

How quickly can the S7 charge, and what is in the cabin?
Luxeed describes the S7 as using an 800 V Huawei Giant Whale high-voltage battery platform and lists a 30–80% fast-charge time of 15 minutes. The product page also advertises adding 215 km of range in five minutes. These are manufacturer claims; charging performance depends on conditions and compatible charging infrastructure. The available product materials do not establish a connector type, home-charger specification or particular charging network.
Manufacturer-listed cabin equipment includes HarmonyOS 4, a 16.1-inch central display, a 12.3-inch instrument display, HUAWEI SOUND and a 7.1.4 audio layout. Luxeed’s configuration table also lists power and phone-key features. Check the detailed official table for trim-specific equipment rather than assuming every item is standard across the range.

No. Luxeed advertises Huawei Qiankun ADS 4 across the New S7 lineup, but its own disclaimer describes the system as driver assistance, not autonomous driving. It says the system cannot replace the driver’s attention and judgment, cannot handle every change in road, weather or traffic conditions, and requires the driver to retain active control and be ready to intervene. Some functions may require an over-the-air update or paid activation. The product page also describes an optional 896-line dual-optical-path lidar; advertised sensors and assistance features are not evidence that the car can drive itself.
What the S7’s production history says about the alliance
The first launch was followed by reported delivery complaints and production challenges. In its April 2024 account, CnEVPost said the dedicated plant was still in pilot production in January, citing local media. The report then relayed Huawei’s claim at relaunch that output had reached one S7 per minute and that volume deliveries had begun. These are historical, attributed claims—not evidence of present output, delivery timing or unresolved current delays.

The episode illustrates a practical test for technology-led partnerships: an appealing software suite and specification sheet do not alone ensure smooth production and delivery. An alliance must also execute the automotive work needed to build and support cars at scale. The evidence available here does not establish whether the initial production issues persisted or how the current operation performs.
Does the Luxeed S7 show that alliances are transforming the EV industry?
It shows a prominent example of an automaker partnership that brings Huawei systems into a Chery-linked vehicle program. That model could reshape how technology firms participate in carmaking: a company known for digital systems can have a visible role without the evidence proving it is the vehicle’s sole maker. The S7 is therefore a useful case study in collaboration, not proof of industry-wide transformation.
Whether the approach changes the competitive landscape depends on outcomes not established by the available sources, including independently verified sales, durable profitability, current delivery performance and head-to-head comparisons with other China-market electric sedans. Buyers assessing the car should also look beyond headline range and acceleration to real-world range, charging access, software support, safety and the precise limits of driver assistance. The official specifications describe the product; they are not an independent test or a comparison with competitors.
