The full-size SUV stood out for its technology-focused cabin, including multiple dashboard and passenger displays, a 75-inch augmented-reality head-up display, and a retractable 32-inch rear projection screen. Its launch battery-electric version claimed up to 630 km on China’s CLTC test cycle, while range-extended versions claimed up to 1,402 km of combined fuel-and-charge range.
The 630-km figure applies only to the launch BEV configuration. The M9 was built through the Huawei–Seres partnership, was introduced at RMB 469,800–569,800 in China, and used Huawei’s ADS 2.0 as a driver-assistance system—not an autonomous-driving system.

What launched in China on December 26, 2023?
The Huawei-backed AITO M9 officially launched in China on December 26, 2023, as AITO’s flagship full-size SUV. Its standout proposition was an unusually technology-heavy cabin: a multi-screen dashboard, an augmented-reality head-up display, rear passenger tablets, and a retractable rear projection screen paired with a laser projector.
The launch range covered both a battery-electric version and range-extended electric versions. The headline 630 km range applied to the launch battery-electric M9 and used China’s CLTC test cycle. The range-extended models had considerably less battery-only range but claimed more than 1,360 km of combined fuel-and-charge range. Those figures should not be treated as interchangeable, or silently converted into EPA or WLTP estimates.

AITO developed the M9 through the Huawei–Seres partnership. Seres was responsible for vehicle manufacturing, while Huawei supplied major software, electronic architecture, infotainment, audio, and intelligent-driving technology. Huawei did not manufacture the SUV alone, and the 2023 launch coverage did not establish a global sales plan. Launch reporting from CnEVPost provides the principal China-market specifications and timing.
The M9’s screen count is more complicated than the headline suggests
The front cockpit had three principal displays:
- A 12.3-inch digital instrument panel for the driver
- A 15.6-inch central infotainment screen
- A 16-inch display for the front passenger
The SUV could also be equipped with four tablet-style displays for rear passengers. The driver looked through a 75-inch augmented-reality head-up display, while rear occupants had access to the M9’s signature entertainment feature: a 32-inch retractable projection screen that rises for viewing and retracts when not required.
That distinction matters. The M9 did not simply have several large flat-panel televisions mounted throughout the cabin. Its rear theater system used a laser projector and a vehicle-integrated screen. Chinese launch coverage described support for a 100% P3 color gamut, one-tap movie mode, and Huawei Lingxi pointer control. IT Home’s launch report covered those projector and cabin-entertainment details.
Reports described a fully equipped M9 as having up to 10 screens when the dashboard displays, rear passenger screens, AR-HUD, and projection screen were counted together. The number is best understood as a maximum equipment-and-counting claim, not as a statement that the SUV contains 10 identical flat displays. Equipment could vary by trim, and the retractable projector screen is a different type of display from the instrument panel or passenger tablet.
Launch audio equipment
The launch M9 was also presented as a rolling premium audio room. Launch reporting described a Huawei Sound system with 25 speakers and 2,080 watts of amplifier output. That specification should be attributed to the original launch equipment or the relevant trim; it should not be generalized to every later M9, because Huawei Sound hardware and speaker counts vary across versions. Later official material advertises different configurations, including a substantially higher speaker count for the newest Ultimate variant.
BEV and EREV range figures: what the numbers actually mean
AITO offered two fundamentally different ways to use the M9. The BEV version relied entirely on its battery. The EREV, or range-extended electric version, used a smaller battery and a fuel-powered range extender for longer trips.

| Launch version | Battery | Claimed battery-only range | Claimed combined range | Other reported figures |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| BEV | 100 kWh | 630 km CLTC | Not applicable | Dual motors; 160 kW front and 230 kW rear; 0–100 km/h in 4.3 seconds |
| EREV | 42 kWh | 225 km CLTC | 1,362 km CLTC | Range-extender configuration |
| EREV | 52 kWh | 275 km CLTC | 1,402 km CLTC | Range-extender configuration |
All figures in this table are claimed CLTC figures for the 2023 China launch. The 630-km figure belongs to the BEV configuration; it does not describe the EREV’s electric-only range. Conversely, the 1,362-km and 1,402-km figures combine battery charge and fuel and therefore are not comparable with the BEV’s 630-km battery-only rating.

Range warning: CLTC is a Chinese test-cycle rating. It is not an EPA or WLTP result and is not a guarantee of real-world distance. Driving speed, temperature, terrain, passenger and cargo load, tires, and use of heating or air conditioning all affect the distance a vehicle can actually cover.
The BEV’s reported dual-motor setup used a 160-kW front motor and a 230-kW rear motor. CnEVPost reported a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 4.3 seconds. That gives the all-electric model a performance headline alongside its large battery, while the EREV versions target buyers who want electric driving for routine journeys without relying exclusively on charging for long-distance travel.
A large six-seat SUV designed around the cabin
The original M9 measured approximately 5,230 mm long, 1,999 mm wide, and 1,800 mm high, with a 3,110-mm wheelbase. It was launched as a three-row SUV with six-seat configurations, giving the second row a more executive, lounge-like role than a standard three-seat bench.
AITO emphasized a flat-floor cabin, flexible seating, reclining premium seats, and zero-gravity seating. Later official AITO material describes expanded cabin arrangements and four zero-gravity seats on the Ultimate configuration, but those later claims should not be backdated to every vehicle sold at the December 2023 launch. The launch vehicle and later model years are related, but their seating, battery, sensor, audio, and equipment combinations are not necessarily identical.

The cabin layout explains why the M9 was marketed as more than a conventional large electric SUV. The instrument panel served the driver, the center display handled vehicle and media controls, the passenger screen gave the front occupant a separate viewing surface, and the rear projector turned the second or third row into an entertainment area when the vehicle was stationary or being used appropriately. That is a consumer-electronics approach to interior design, integrated into a premium vehicle rather than added as an aftermarket accessory.

Huawei ADS 2.0 and the driver-assistance caveat
At launch, the M9 was associated with Huawei ADS 2.0 and a lidar-equipped sensor suite. Huawei’s launch material described the system as capable of recognizing vehicles, pedestrians, traffic infrastructure, road signs, and other obstacles. These capabilities support assisted-driving functions; they do not make the M9 an autonomous vehicle.
The driver remains responsible for monitoring the road and must be ready to intervene. The Huawei material includes the explicit driver-responsibility warning. Buyers should also distinguish the original ADS 2.0 hardware and functions from later revisions.
What changed after the debut?
In March 2025, an updated 2025 AITO M9 launched in China with four lidar sensors and revised range-extended equipment and battery specifications. The update retained a 630-km CLTC claim for the BEV version, but it was not the same specification as the December 2023 launch model. CarNewsChina’s report on the 2025 update is useful for separating the revised vehicle from the original debut.

Those are later, 2026-model-era specifications and must not be presented as launch-day specifications. The current AITO M9 product page is the appropriate reference for those newer figures.
Price, orders, and delivery schedule
The December 2023 launch price range was RMB 469,800 to RMB 569,800. This is a China-market sticker price, not a confirmed US, European, or other international price, and it does not include any hypothetical import costs, taxes, homologation, servicing, or local warranty arrangements.
CnEVPost reported that AITO had accumulated approximately 54,000 pre-orders by the launch event and received more than 10,000 firm orders during the first two hours after launch. These were company-reported order figures, so they should be read as launch-event claims rather than independently audited delivery totals.

- Compatibility Comes First — Designed for portable CarPlay and Android Auto displays in 7, 9 and 10.26 inch sizes plus selected GPS units. Screen size alone does not guarantee fit; compare the rear attachment point and product images before ordering. This mount is not intended for phones or tablets.
- Extra-Large Adhesive Base — The wide dashboard base spreads support across a larger area to help reduce wobble on uneven roads. A replacement adhesive pad is included for a future reinstall. Because the base uses a semi-permanent bond, choose and test the position before pressing it into place.
- Adjustable Viewing Position — The arm and 360-degree joint let you raise, lower, tilt and rotate a compatible display to reduce glare and keep controls within reach. Tighten the joint after positioning and make sure the screen does not block the road, gauges, vents or vehicle controls.
- Prepare the Dashboard Carefully — Install on a clean, dry and reasonably flat surface. Use the included cleaning kit, follow the manual and allow the adhesive to set before adding the screen. Curved, heavily textured, soft-touch or recently treated dashboards may not provide a dependable bond.
- Check Space and Cabin Conditions — The enlarged base needs more dashboard room than a compact mount. Test placement before removing the liner and inspect the mount periodically, especially after prolonged heat exposure. The package includes the mount, cleaning kit, user manual and replacement adhesive base.

Was the AITO M9 available outside China?
The December 2023 launch coverage did not establish a global availability plan. The vehicle should therefore be described as a China-launched model, not as a globally available Huawei SUV. Availability, import legality, charging compatibility, parts supply, software services, warranty coverage, and intelligent-driving functions can all be country-specific.
Anyone considering an import would need current confirmation from an authorized regional distributor or a reputable import specialist rather than relying on the Chinese launch price. The same applies to servicing: the M9’s displays, projector, lidar sensors, software, and electronic architecture are integrated vehicle systems, not ordinary universal accessories.
Why the M9 mattered at launch
The M9’s importance was not just its maximum range. Its launch showed how Huawei was extending its consumer-electronics expertise into the vehicle interior through a partnership with an established manufacturer. The rear projection system, passenger display, AR-HUD, Huawei Sound audio, and ADS software made the cabin itself the product’s central differentiator.
It also illustrated why specifications for Chinese technology-focused vehicles need careful dating. A headline can combine a 630-km range, a 10-screen cabin, and Huawei intelligent driving, but each detail has conditions: the range is a launch BEV CLTC claim, the screen total depends on equipment and counting conventions, the projector screen is one integrated rear display rather than several projector screens, and the driving system remains driver assistance. Later M9 versions changed batteries, lidar hardware, audio equipment, and range figures.

Is the AITO M9’s 630-km range an EPA or WLTP figure?
No. The 630-km figure is a China CLTC test-cycle claim for the launch BEV. It is not an EPA or WLTP rating and should not be treated as a guaranteed real-world range figure.
Does the AITO M9 really have 10 projector screens?
The launch vehicle had one 32-inch retractable rear projection screen paired with a laser projector. Its other displays included three principal front displays, optional rear passenger tablets, and a 75-inch AR-HUD. Reports described up to 10 screens in a fully equipped configuration, but that total includes different types of displays and depends on equipment and counting conventions.
Did Huawei manufacture the AITO M9?
Seres handled vehicle manufacturing, while Huawei supplied major software, electronics, infotainment, audio, and intelligent-driving technology. The M9 was not solely manufactured by Huawei.
Can you buy the 2023 AITO M9 outside China?
The original launch coverage established a China launch but did not announce a global availability plan. A buyer outside China would need current, country-specific confirmation of sales, import eligibility, servicing, software support, warranty, and charging compatibility.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The December 2023 AITO M9 was a China-launched, full-size six-seat SUV that combined a 630-km CLTC BEV option with range-extended versions claiming up to 1,402 km combined CLTC. Its defining feature was the integrated cabin theater: multiple front and rear displays, a 75-inch AR-HUD, and one retractable 32-inch rear projection screen. The M9 was built through the Huawei–Seres partnership, its ADS system was assisted driving rather than autonomy, and later 2025 and 2026-model updates should be kept separate from the original launch specification.
