The image is an important look at the overall shape and variety of Horizon Japan, but it does not provide a scale bar, square-mile figure, square-kilometer measurement, or official comparison with Forza Horizon 5. Any claim that the map is a specific size—or twice as large as the previous game—remains speculation unless Playground Games publishes additional data.

Published by Playground Games on April 8, 2026, under the heading “Forza Horizon 6 – Full Map Reveal,” the image pulls the camera back far enough to show how the game’s major environments fit together. The official description places the playable world between the streets of Tokyo City and the snowy Japanese Alps.

- Up Your Game: Take your racing simulation to the next level with Driving Force accessories like the Driving Force Shifter or desk and rig mounts
Among the named locations and road inspirations are:
- Tokyo City, including downtown streets, suburbs, docks, and industrial districts.
- C1-inspired roads, drawing on Tokyo’s famous urban expressway loop.
- Gingko Avenue, one of the city-focused routes identified by Playground Games.
- Mt. Haruna and Bandai Azuma, named mountain-pass areas built around the game’s touge and alpine driving character.
- Snowy Japanese Alps, providing a clear contrast with the lower, denser urban areas.
- Rural landscapes and traditional environments alongside modern city districts.
Playground Games describes the map as the series’ “most dense and vertical.” That wording points to a design focused not only on horizontal distance, but also on elevation, switchbacks, tunnels, bridges, stacked city roads, and the way different environments connect. The official material also emphasizes multiple biomes and seasonal changes.
It is a Japan-inspired region, not all of Japan
The map should not be described as a complete map of Japan. Japan is an archipelago stretching thousands of kilometers from Hokkaido to Okinawa, while Forza Horizon 6 presents a deliberately curated Horizon interpretation centered on Tokyo and its surrounding countryside.
That distinction matters when reading the reveal image. It confirms a broad combination of Japanese environments and car-culture references, but it does not mean players can drive across the real country or visit every major Japanese region. The game’s version of Japan is designed around contrasts: huge urban spaces beside rural roads, contemporary districts beside traditional scenery, and fast expressway routes beside technical mountain passes.

Tokyo appears to be the map’s central urban anchor
Xbox’s official setting overview calls Tokyo City the largest urban area in a Forza Horizon game. It also specifically identifies explorable suburbs, downtown streets, docks, and industrial districts.
That makes the city more than a decorative starting area. Tokyo is intended to be a substantial part of the open world, with several distinct types of driving environment. Downtown roads should offer dense city navigation and high-speed urban routes, while the docks and industrial districts can provide wider spaces and a very different visual rhythm. The surrounding suburbs create a transition between the metropolitan core and the rural and mountainous parts of the map.
The C1 and Gingko Avenue references reinforce that urban focus. At the same time, the inclusion of Mt. Haruna, Bandai Azuma, and the Japanese Alps suggests that the map is built to move quickly between city driving and technical elevation changes.

| Question | What the official reveal confirms |
|---|---|
| Is the map expansive? | Yes. The image shows a broad, varied region spanning Tokyo City, countryside, mountain routes, and snowy alpine areas. |
| Is an exact area available? | No. No square-mile or square-kilometer figure has been provided. |
| Is it larger than Forza Horizon 5? | No official size comparison has been stated. |
| Does it represent all of Japan? | No. It is a curated Horizon setting focused on Tokyo and surrounding regions. |
| Is the world vertically complex? | That is the developer’s stated design goal: Playground Games calls it the series’ “most dense and vertical” map. |
Fan estimates and secondary reports may attempt to calculate the map’s area from the image, but those figures should be treated as unofficial. A zoomed-out presentation can communicate scope without revealing the exact boundaries, playable surface area, or how much of the visible terrain can be reached by car.
Why verticality could matter more than raw map size
A map-size comparison based only on area would miss one of the most important details in the reveal. Playground Games is emphasizing density and verticality, which can make a world feel larger—or more varied—without simply extending its outer boundaries.
In practical terms, vertical design can mean:
- Mountain roads that climb and descend through several climate zones.
- Multiple routes between the same locations rather than one long highway.
- Urban roads layered across expressways, bridges, tunnels, and streets.
- Shorter distances containing more changes in scenery, road surface, and corner type.
- More opportunities for drift runs, touge battles, high-speed cruises, and off-road exploration within the same region.
The combination of Tokyo’s density and Japan’s mountain-pass culture gives Forza Horizon 6 a different design opportunity from a map built primarily around open plains or long rural highways. The final experience will depend on how freely those environments connect and how much of the apparent terrain is playable, details the reveal image alone cannot establish.

Bottom line for Forza fans
The zoomed-out image confirms that Forza Horizon 6 is aiming for breadth through variety: Tokyo streets, suburban and industrial districts, rural roads, famous-road inspirations, technical mountain passes, and snowy alpine scenery in one connected Horizon setting. It looks expansive and unusually varied, but the image is not enough to prove a numerical map-size claim.
For now, the most accurate description is a dense, vertically designed Japan-inspired open world centered on Tokyo and its surrounding landscapes. Until Playground Games publishes a measurement or a direct comparison, the reveal should be read as evidence of the map’s scope and composition—not as proof of a specific area figure.

The Bottom Line
