If you meant the live broadcast of the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix, the free U.S. channel was ABC. The race started at 2:00 p.m. Eastern / 11:00 a.m. Pacific on Sunday, June 15, 2025, and viewers with a suitable antenna could watch their local ABC station without a pay-TV subscription.

That race has now finished, so there is no live 2025 broadcast to watch. The information below explains the original free viewing options and clears up the difference between free TV, authenticated streaming, and paid F1 services.

How to watch the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix free in the U.S.

The simplest option was an antenna connected to a television that could receive the viewer’s local ABC affiliate. ABC carried the Grand Prix itself, including the live race broadcast.

  1. Check which ABC station serves your address using a local TV listings service or antenna reception tool.
  2. Connect an indoor or outdoor antenna to the TV’s antenna or RF input.
  3. Run the television’s channel scan so it detects local over-the-air stations.
  4. Open the local ABC channel before the scheduled start time.

The advertised start was 2:00 p.m. ET / 11:00 a.m. PT. Local listings were important because an affiliate could change or preempt network programming. The relevant schedule was the local ABC station’s listing, not the ESPN cable schedule.

Was ABC free to watch?

Yes, but only through the over-the-air broadcast. ABC is a free network channel in areas where its local affiliate can be received with an antenna. You did not need ESPN+, F1 TV, or a cable subscription for the race itself.

Streaming ABC was different. A viewer could watch through a paid live-TV service that carried the local ABC station, such as Hulu + Live TV when available in the relevant market. Any free trial was a temporary promotion with eligibility conditions, not permanent free access.

What about practice and qualifying?

ABC’s free broadcast applied to the Grand Prix race, not the entire race weekend. In the United States, practice and qualifying were assigned to ESPN-family television and streaming outlets.

Session 2025 schedule U.S. coverage listed at the time
Free Practice 1 Friday, June 13, 1:20 p.m. ET ESPN3 in published U.S. guides
Free Practice 2 Friday, June 13, about 4:45–5:00 p.m. ET ESPNU
Free Practice 3 Saturday, June 14, about 12:20–12:30 p.m. ET ESPN2
Qualifying Saturday, June 14, about 3:55–4:00 p.m. ET ESPN2
Grand Prix Sunday, June 15, 2:00 p.m. ET ABC

Times varied slightly between listings because some schedules showed pre-session programming or the network’s coverage window rather than the exact session start.

Can Canadians watch the race for free?

In Canada, the 2025 race was carried by CTV, TSN, RDS, and Noovo. CTV was the main free-to-view option discussed by contemporary viewing guides, but its online stream generally required a login from an eligible Canadian TV provider.

That makes CTV different from an unrestricted free web stream. Canadian viewers could also find the race on TSN’s channels or TSN+, but those were subscription or authenticated services rather than free channels. Bell Media listed the race broadcast at approximately 1:55 p.m. ET, with coverage beginning around 12:30 p.m. ET.

Services that were not free alternatives

  • ESPN+: a paid streaming service, not a free way to watch the race.
  • F1 TV Pro: live availability depends on the country and local broadcast rights. It is not automatically available in every territory.
  • CTV online: required Canadian TV-provider authentication rather than unrestricted access.
  • VPN-based access: a VPN does not create a subscription or override a service’s geographic restrictions. It may also conflict with the service’s terms.

Why you may not have found the race on ESPN

U.S. schedules divided the weekend among several outlets. ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPN streaming services handled much of the practice and qualifying coverage, while ABC handled the race. Therefore, looking only at an ESPN cable listing could make it appear that the Grand Prix was unavailable or assigned to a different channel.

What time did the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix start?

The scheduled race start was 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Could I watch the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix free online?

Online access was not universally free. U.S. viewers needed a live-TV service carrying their local ABC station, while Canadian CTV streaming generally required a Canadian TV-provider login.

Was practice and qualifying also on ABC?

No. ABC carried the U.S. race broadcast. Practice and qualifying were listed on ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3, or other ESPN streaming outlets.

The Bottom Line

The free U.S. option for the 2025 Canadian Grand Prix was ABC over the air with an antenna. ABC did not require ESPN+ or F1 TV for the race. Canadian viewers had CTV as the free-to-view broadcaster with TV-provider authentication for online access. Because the event took place on June 15, 2025, these are historical viewing details rather than a current live-stream schedule.
