How to Watch Formula 1 on Apple TV in the U.S. (2026 Guide)

U.S. viewers can watch the scheduled 2026 Formula 1 season through Apple TV at $12.99 per month. Here is how to set it up on TVs, Roku, Fire TV, consoles, phones, computers, and the web—and how to activate included F1 TV Premium.

U.S. viewers can watch the entire scheduled 2026 Formula 1 season through an Apple TV subscription in the Apple TV app or at tv.apple.com. The current verified price is $12.99 per month, and eligible new subscribers can receive a seven-day free trial. You do not need to buy an Apple TV streaming box: the app works on supported smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, game consoles, phones, computers, and web browsers. Check Apple’s current F1 availability and pricing before subscribing.

First, understand the Apple TV and F1 TV names

Several similarly named products are involved:

  • Apple TV subscription: the streaming subscription that carries live Formula 1 in the United States during the 2026 season.
  • Apple TV app: the application where you watch the Apple TV catalog and the F1 section.
  • Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD: optional hardware boxes that run the Apple TV app. You do not have to own one.
  • F1 TV app: Formula 1’s companion application. U.S. Apple TV subscribers can activate the included F1 TV Premium benefit through Formula 1.
  • F1 TV Access: a separate, lower-tier F1 subscription focused on timing, archives, and delayed or replay content. It is not the same as the F1 TV Premium benefit included with a U.S. Apple TV subscription. Formula 1 currently lists Access at $29.99 per year or $3.49 per month in the U.S. See Formula 1’s current plan information.

In practical terms: you need a U.S. Apple TV subscription and a supported device with the Apple TV app—not an Apple TV box.

What Formula 1 coverage is included?

The U.S. Apple TV subscription includes every scheduled 2026 F1 weekend session: practice, qualifying, Sprint sessions, and Grand Prix races. The coverage is available live and on demand, so you can return to a session after it has finished.

Apple’s F1 offering also includes:

  • Full race and session replays.
  • Highlights and pre-race and post-race programming.
  • English and Spanish commentary options.
  • Onboard cameras for all 22 drivers.
  • Live data and Driver Tracker.
  • Additional feeds such as Data, Driver Tracker, mixed onboard, and Podium feeds. The available selection can vary by event.
  • Multiview on supported hardware, with up to four F1 feeds visible at once.

Feed selection and features are not identical on every television, streaming device, phone, browser, or game console. For example, an individual onboard feed may be available on a device that does not offer the four-panel Multiview interface.

How much does it cost?

The current Apple pages reviewed list the U.S. Apple TV subscription at $12.99 per month. Eligible new subscribers may receive a seven-day free trial. The subscription—not a separate F1 add-on—provides the main live F1 coverage. Check Apple’s current Apple TV subscription page for the price shown at checkout.

Some older guides quote a $99 annual Apple TV price. That figure is not verified by the current Apple pages used for this guide, so check the live checkout rather than relying on an older annual-price claim.

Already have Apple TV or Apple One?

If you already pay for Apple TV in the U.S., use that existing subscription. Apple One includes Apple TV, so an eligible Apple One subscriber should be able to open the F1 section with the same Apple Account attached to the Apple One subscription.

Apple TV can also be shared through Apple’s Family Sharing system with up to five additional family members, subject to Apple’s Family Sharing rules. The cited Apple documentation confirms sharing, but it does not establish a specific allowance for six simultaneous F1 streams, so do not assume every family member can watch separate live sessions at once. See Apple’s subscription-sharing guidance.

Which devices can watch F1 on Apple TV?

Apple lists the following ways to watch F1. Availability, minimum software versions, and app features can vary by model and region.

Device or platform How to watch Important detail
Apple TV 4K Open the Apple TV app and select Formula 1. Apple’s current F1 page specifies tvOS 26.2 or later.
Apple TV HD Open the Apple TV app and select Formula 1. Apple’s current F1 page specifies tvOS 26.2 or later.
iPhone or iPad Use the Apple TV app. Apple lists iOS 26.2 or later for its current F1 experience.
Mac Use the Apple TV app. Apple lists macOS Tahoe 26.2 or later.
Windows PC Use the Apple TV app for Windows or visit tv.apple.com. Sign in with the Apple Account holding the subscription.
Android phone or tablet Install the Apple TV app on an eligible Android device. Compatibility and features depend on the device.
Smart TVs Install the Apple TV app on supported Samsung, LG, Sony, VIZIO, TCL, and other models. Not every model or operating-system version supports every feature.
Streaming devices Use the Apple TV app on supported Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, and other compatible devices. Some devices do not support purchases inside the app.
Game consoles Install the Apple TV app on a supported PlayStation or Xbox. Sign in with the subscribing Apple Account.
Web browser Go to tv.apple.com and sign in. Useful as a cross-device test if the TV app is not showing F1.

Apple’s current F1 information lists the supported device categories and software requirements. Review Apple’s device announcement.

What about an older Apple TV box?

Do not assume that every Apple TV box can run the F1 experience. Apple’s support documentation identifies Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models as tvOS devices, while documentation for the third-generation Apple TV does not list F1. The F1-specific requirements identify Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K, so an older third-generation box should not be treated as a confirmed F1-compatible device. Identify your Apple TV model before relying on it.

How to watch F1 on an Apple TV 4K or compatible smart TV

  1. Install or open the Apple TV app.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account that owns the active U.S. Apple TV subscription.
  3. Open the app’s sidebar.
  4. Select Formula 1.
  5. Choose the featured live event, an individual session, a replay, or another F1 program.
  6. If the session is live, select Watch Live.
  7. If the session is already underway and you want to watch from the beginning, choose Start Over.

If a live event begins playing as a preview on the F1 screen, show the playback controls. You may need to select Watch Live, or press and hold the clickpad or touch surface to reveal options such as Watch Live, Start Over, feeds, and language. Apple’s Formula 1 viewing instructions document these controls.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Change the feed or commentary

  1. Start the event.
  2. Show the playback controls.
  3. Select Feeds.
  4. Choose the main broadcast, an onboard camera, Data, Driver Tracker, mixed onboard, Podium, or another feed offered for that event.

To change commentary, open the audio options and select English or Spanish when available. Not every feed necessarily has the same audio choices.

Follow Formula 1

From the F1 area, select Follow F1. This helps upcoming events appear in the relevant watch or continue-watching areas of the Apple TV experience. Menu placement can vary slightly with the device and app version.

How to watch on Roku, Fire TV, Google TV, a console, phone, or computer

The general process is the same across supported platforms:

  1. Install the Apple TV app from the device’s app store, or open tv.apple.com on a computer.
  2. Sign in with the Apple Account that has the U.S. Apple TV subscription.
  3. Open the Formula 1 section.
  4. Select the live session, replay, or program you want to watch.

On some smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, or Android TV devices, the Apple TV app may not support in-app purchases. If the app cannot process the subscription, subscribe using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or web browser first, then sign in on the television with the same Apple Account. Apple explains device installation and purchase limitations here.

How to activate the included F1 TV Premium access

U.S. Apple TV subscribers receive F1 TV Premium at no additional cost, but installing the F1 TV app alone does not activate it. You must link the Apple Account with a Formula 1 account through Formula 1’s activation page.

  1. Subscribe to Apple TV using the Apple Account you intend to use for F1.
  2. Open f1.com/apple.
  3. Sign in to an existing Formula 1 account or create one.
  4. Link the Apple Account with the active U.S. Apple TV subscription.
  5. Open the F1 TV app or the F1 TV website.
  6. Sign in with the linked Formula 1 account.
  7. Confirm that Premium access is displayed before the next live session.

This is useful if you want Formula 1’s companion experience, including driver cameras, timing and data features, and the feeds offered through F1 TV. Apple also says that Apple TV subscribers can use the F1 TV app on Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone to access F2, F3, F1 Academy, and Porsche Supercup events. See Apple’s description of the F1 TV partner benefit.

Do not buy F1 TV Access expecting it to unlock the live U.S. F1 video broadcast. Access is a separate plan, not a replacement for the included Premium activation. If Premium remains locked, confirm that you used the same Apple Account that holds the Apple TV subscription, repeat the linking process at f1.com/apple, then sign out and back in to the F1 TV app.

How to use onboard cameras and Multiview

For a single alternate view, open the playback controls and choose Feeds. Depending on the event, you may see the main broadcast, a driver onboard, Data, Driver Tracker, a mixed onboard feed, a track or course map, or a Podium feed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Multiview lets you watch up to four live F1 feeds at the same time. Apple’s current F1 material specifically supports Multiview on Apple TV 4K, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro. It is not a feature that should be assumed to work on Roku, every smart-TV app, every browser, or every phone. Apple TV 4K Multiview guidance and Apple’s iPad guidance provide device-specific details.

On an Apple TV 4K:

  1. Start the F1 event.
  2. Open the playback controls.
  3. Select Multiview.
  4. Choose a preset or add individual feeds.
  5. Focus on the stream whose audio you want to hear.

A useful four-feed layout might combine the main broadcast, a driver onboard, the data feed, and a track map. The exact choices depend on what Formula 1 and Apple provide for that event.

Can you watch Formula 1 free on Apple TV?

Yes, but it is not accurate to say that all of F1 is free on Apple TV.

  • Every practice session: Apple’s current F1 page says practice is available without a subscription.
  • Selected race weekends: Apple may make a limited number of race weekends available free in the Apple TV app.
  • Other U.S. options: Yahoo Sports was selected to stream live practice and qualifying, while Tubi was selected to carry creator-hosted alternate live broadcasts for multiple races during the 2026 season.

Free race-weekend availability is promotional and can vary. Check the event card in the Apple TV app’s F1 section instead of assuming that the next Grand Prix is free. Yahoo Sports and Tubi broadcasts may use different presentation, hosts, commentary, or coverage from Apple’s main F1 broadcast. Apple’s 2026 announcement covers the free and alternate options.

What if you miss the live session?

You have several options:

  • Start Over: Use this while the session is still live if you want to begin at the start.
  • Full replay: Open the F1 section after the event and choose the completed session.
  • Highlights: Select the event’s highlights program when you want a shorter recap.
  • Race in 30: On supported Apple TV interfaces, a condensed version may appear after the race. Apple says it is usually available within hours, although timing can vary. Check Apple’s replay and playback guidance.

Where to find the current 2026 F1 schedule

Do not rely on a static list of race dates in an older streaming guide. Formula 1’s calendar and session times can change, and Apple’s F1 page is the better source for Apple-specific availability while Formula1.com is the better source for session times and calendar updates.

Some older 2026 calendars show 24 rounds. Formula 1 later announced that the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian Grands Prix would not take place in April and that no replacement events would be added in April. That is why current listings can show 22 scheduled rounds instead. Read Formula 1’s calendar update.

Apple TV F1 troubleshooting

Problem What to check or do
The Formula 1 section does not appear Confirm that the Apple Account’s country or region is the United States, verify that the Apple TV subscription is active under the signed-in account, update the Apple TV app and device software, and confirm that the hardware is supported. Then sign out and back in. Test tv.apple.com to determine whether the problem is limited to the device.
The subscription is not recognized Sign in with the exact Apple Account that purchased Apple TV or receives it through Apple One. A different account on the TV can make the app appear unsubscribed.
The TV app cannot process payment Some smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, and Android TV devices do not support in-app purchases. Subscribe through an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or browser, then sign in on the TV using the same Apple Account. See Apple’s device-purchase guidance.
A live event shows a preview instead of the race Open the playback controls and select Watch Live. If you want the beginning, select Start Over, or press and hold the Apple TV clickpad or touch surface to reveal those choices.
F1 TV Premium is locked Go to f1.com/apple, link the Apple Account that holds the active U.S. Apple TV subscription, and sign out and back in to the F1 TV app. Installing F1 TV does not automatically grant Premium.
Multiview is missing Check the device. Apple’s current F1 material identifies Apple TV 4K, iPad, and Apple Vision Pro as supported Multiview platforms. Other devices may offer individual feeds without the four-panel interface.
You are outside the United States Apple’s F1 rights are U.S.-only. Check Formula 1’s country-by-country broadcast directory for the broadcaster or F1 TV availability in your location.

Is Apple TV’s F1 coverage available outside the U.S.?

Not automatically. The 2026 Apple TV Formula 1 agreement described here applies to the United States. A subscription purchased or used in the U.K., Canada, Australia, or another country does not automatically include the U.S. F1 package. Formula 1 lists different rights-holders by territory, and its subscription terms describe geographic restrictions and territory-dependent content. Check the official broadcast directory and F1 TV subscription terms.

The same caution applies when traveling. Rights, blackouts, available feeds, and account access can change by territory. Check the official local options and the terms of your subscriptions rather than assuming a U.S. Apple TV F1 subscription will work abroad. A VPN is not a substitute for confirming the applicable rights.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an Apple TV 4K box to watch Formula 1?

No. You need a U.S. Apple TV subscription and a supported device running the Apple TV app. You can watch on supported smart TVs, Roku, Fire TV, game consoles, phones, computers, or at tv.apple.com. Apple TV 4K is optional hardware, although it is one of the devices that supports F1 Multiview.

Is F1 TV Premium the same as F1 TV Access?

No. F1 TV Premium is the benefit available at no additional cost to U.S. Apple TV subscribers after linking the Apple Account through f1.com/apple. F1 TV Access is a separate lower-tier Formula 1 subscription and should not be purchased as a substitute for live U.S. Apple TV coverage.

Can I watch the F1 race for free on Apple TV?

Every practice session is listed as free, and selected race weekends may also be free. These promotions can vary by event. Check the event card in the Apple TV app rather than assuming that every race is free.

The Bottom Line

For a U.S. viewer who wants the complete 2026 F1 season, the simplest setup is an Apple TV subscription at the current verified price of $12.99 per month, the Apple TV app on a supported device, and the Formula 1 section inside the app. Apple TV hardware is optional. For onboard cameras, timing, and additional F1 feeds, link the same Apple Account at f1.com/apple to activate the included F1 TV Premium access.
