On the second-generation GAC AION V, the documented controls are straightforward: choose driving modes from the central-console main interface, move the selector lever toward D once to set adaptive cruise control (ACC), and move it toward D twice quickly to set intelligent cruise assistance (ICA). The AION app can add vehicle-status, climate and charging controls when those functions are fitted and enabled for your market. Exact driver-assistance and infotainment menu labels are not universal, so use the manual and in-car help for your vehicle’s market, trim and software version rather than copying a menu path from another AION V.
What this guide covers—and what it cannot standardize
The available official quick-start material is for the second-generation AION V and uses right-hand-drive artwork. It describes the basic operation of driving modes, ACC, ICA and AION app setup. It also says the display illustrations are examples and that the actual vehicle screen prevails.

That qualification matters. AION V equipment differs by country, trim, model year and software release. The indexed owner-manual record dated July 2025 says the manual can describe options that are not fitted to every car and directs owners to market sales information or an AION sales store to confirm equipment. The detailed owner-manual PDF is not available here, and the quick-start guide does not provide click-by-click labels for sound, connectivity, display, language or every driver-assistance parameter. The procedures below therefore stop at the controls the official guide actually documents.
- Use the instructions for a second-generation AION V, not an earlier generation or a different GAC model.
- Expect a different screen layout if your car is left-hand drive, sold in another region or running different software.
- If a control, icon or menu named here is absent, do not substitute a path from another vehicle. Check your vehicle-specific manual, the in-car help system or an authorized AION service point.
Before changing a setting
Use the central display only when doing so is safe. A practical approach is to make menu changes while parked, before entering traffic, or with a passenger handling the screen where local rules permit it. Confirm the selector position, keep the driver’s seat and mirrors correctly adjusted, and read the instrument display after every physical-control command. A setting that appears active on a menu is not a reason to stop watching the road.

Take a photo or note of the current warning or status message before calling support. The market, trim, software version and exact wording often explain why two apparently identical AION V vehicles show different controls.
Switching the AION V driving mode
Open the mode selector
- Park safely or keep the vehicle stationary when changing settings that require attention to the central screen.
- Wake the central-console display and open its main interface.
- Select the driving-mode control shown on your display.
- Choose Comfort, Sports, Energy Saving or Custom. The guide describes these as the available basic choices.
- Read the confirmation shown by the vehicle before returning your attention to the road.
The guide does not publish a universal icon name, swipe sequence or sub-menu location beyond the central-console main interface. If your home screen uses different wording, follow the visible on-screen labels for your vehicle rather than forcing this sequence into an older interface. If a mode is missing, first verify that you are looking at the vehicle’s main interface rather than a phone projection screen or a restricted user profile.

These are descriptions of intended behavior, not laboratory results. Temperature, traffic, tire condition, payload, terrain and climate use can all affect the result you experience. Energy Saving’s integrated-pedal behavior may feel different from Comfort or Sports, so allow yourself time to become familiar with the response in a safe, low-traffic location.
Custom should not be assumed to expose the same choices shown in an online video. The quick-start guide confirms the mode exists but does not enumerate adjustable parameters, whether a preference is retained after switching off, or whether different drivers can save separate profiles. Those details must come from the display in your car or its market-specific manual.
Using Extreme Energy Saving
When the battery is low, the guide says Extreme Energy Saving can be activated from the display. The exact button or warning banner is market- and software-dependent, so use the prompt presented by your car. Because this mode reduces available power and air-conditioning capability, plan a safe route to charging and do not treat the setting as a substitute for maintaining an adequate state of charge.
Reduced air-conditioning availability can affect occupant comfort and, in some conditions, visibility. Keep windows, demisting and ventilation under control and stop safely if visibility becomes inadequate. The guide does not state a fixed battery percentage at which the mode appears, so do not wait for a particular number based on another owner’s vehicle.
Setting adaptive cruise control (ACC)
Activate ACC
- Confirm that the selector is in D.
- Move the selector lever toward D once. The quick-start guide labels this procedure “Set ACC.”
- Check the instrument display for the vehicle’s cruise status and any prompt requiring your attention.
- Use the steering-wheel roller to make the desired adjustments.
The guide says ACC detects information about a vehicle ahead. When no vehicle is detected, it uses cruise control; when a vehicle is detected, it follows that vehicle. This is an operating description, not a promise that every object, road layout or weather condition will be detected correctly. Keep scanning beyond the vehicle immediately ahead for stopped traffic, lane closures, pedestrians and motorcycles.

Make adjustments in small steps and verify the result on the instrument display. A following-distance setting is not a guarantee of a fixed stopping gap: road speed, traffic behavior, visibility, surface grip and system limits affect the actual distance. Select a larger gap when conditions are poor or traffic is unpredictable, and be ready to brake yourself.

The documented procedure does not specify every way to pause, cancel or resume ACC, nor does it list minimum and maximum speeds. Do not infer those details from another GAC model. Use the symbols and instructions shown by your own vehicle, and consult its manual if the system will not engage or if you need to know how a cancel command behaves.

The table describes the controls, not a ranking of capability or a promise that ICA is suitable for every road. ICA still depends on the conditions and limits stated by the vehicle.
If ACC does not engage
- Recheck that the selector is actually in D; the documented activation procedure requires D.
- Repeat the single movement toward D and look for the status indication on the instrument display.
- Make sure you are not trying to activate it while distracted by a moving vehicle or an unsafe situation.
- If the vehicle still refuses the command, read any warning shown on the display and consult the vehicle-specific manual. Do not keep experimenting in traffic to discover an undocumented activation condition.
- If a fault message remains, arrange an inspection through an authorized AION service channel for your market.
Setting intelligent cruise assistance (ICA)
Activate ICA
- Place the selector in D.
- Move the lever toward D twice quickly. The guide labels this procedure “Set ICA.”
- Confirm the resulting status on the instrument display before relying on any assistance.
- Keep your attention on the road, your hands ready to steer and your feet ready to brake.
The quick-start guide describes ICA as following a vehicle during cruise control while keeping the AION V traveling near the middle of its lane. It lists only some intelligent-driving functions and refers owners to the owner manual for others. The guide does not establish that ICA can handle every curve, lane marking, merge, stopped object or weather condition.
Lane-center assistance should not be confused with permission to remove your hands or attention. Faded markings, construction zones, glare, rain, snow, dirt on sensors or unusual road edges can change what the system can perceive. If the display requests driver intervention, respond immediately; if the vehicle’s path is uncertain, take over rather than waiting for an automatic correction.
ACC and ICA are assistance functions, not autonomous driving
GAC’s official AION V Quick Start Guide states: “Intelligent driving functions can only assist the driver in safe driving and are not applicable in all cases.” The same warning tells the driver to pay attention to the vehicle’s condition and the driving environment and says the driver cannot completely rely on intelligent-driving functions.
- Monitor traffic, lane position, cyclists, pedestrians, road works and changing surfaces continuously.
- Take over immediately if the vehicle does not behave as expected.
- Do not use the system as a test subject against a real hazard, and do not deliberately release attention or control to see whether a warning or braking response occurs.
- Follow local laws governing driver-assistance use and keep the driver’s seat, mirrors and seating position correctly adjusted.
What the AION app can control
Initial setup sequence
The quick-start guide describes this sequence, subject to availability in your market:
- Download the AION app from the official channel offered for your region, if an app is available there.
- Register an account.
- Bind or pair the vehicle to that account.
- Complete owner identification.
- Set a security PIN.
Keep account credentials private and complete the binding process only through the official app and the vehicle’s own prompts. If registration, identification or binding fails, record the exact error and contact market-appropriate AION support; do not assume another country’s app or account workflow will work with your car.

After binding, allow time for the vehicle and phone to synchronize. A status tile may be unavailable when the vehicle has no network connection, the service is not activated for the account, or the requested feature is not fitted. Avoid repeatedly entering guesses for the PIN; use the app’s documented recovery route or support channel instead.

The guide deliberately treats these as conditional functions. A missing tile is not necessarily a fault: it may indicate that your trim, market, account status or connected service does not support that feature. The app also cannot make an unsupported vehicle function appear; adding a different phone, changing language or copying another market’s account does not establish compatibility.
Infotainment settings: why a universal click-by-click path is unsafe
The quick-start guide does not document exact menu paths for audio, Bluetooth or other connectivity, display brightness, language, notifications, user profiles or every driver-assistance parameter. The official manual listing provides an AION V manual access point, but the indexed owner-manual record also warns that configurations vary.
Before following any detailed online walkthrough, identify these four items:
- Market: the country or sales region where the car was supplied.
- Model and generation: confirm that it is the second-generation AION V.
- Trim and equipment: note which screens, cameras, sensors and connected services are actually fitted.
- Software version: record the version shown in the vehicle’s system-information area, if your display provides one.
Then consult the manual supplied for that combination or open the in-car help content. A path copied from another GAC model can put a control in the wrong place, omit a safety confirmation or describe equipment your vehicle does not have. If the manual and the screen disagree, the current vehicle display and the latest market-specific service guidance take priority.
A safe way to locate an infotainment control
- Park and switch on the vehicle’s display without attempting to operate menus while moving.
- Start at the main interface and read the category names actually shown: do not assume that a control is under the same heading used in an overseas video.
- Use the vehicle’s search or help function, if fitted, for terms such as sound, connectivity, display or language.
- Change one setting at a time and note the result before changing another.
- Return to the manual or an authorized support channel if a setting is unavailable, greyed out or accompanied by a warning.
This method is intentionally less specific than a universal button sequence because it avoids inventing labels the accessible guide does not confirm. It also gives you a record of the software behavior on your own vehicle.
Understanding regional equipment differences
Published specifications illustrate why screen and feature assumptions are risky. The Russia-market AION V equipment information lists a 14.6-inch central screen, an 8.9-inch instrument display, online services and driver-assistance equipment. Those are specifications for that market’s listed vehicle, not a universal description of every AION V sold elsewhere.

The right-hand-drive artwork in the quick-start guide is another reminder that steering-wheel controls, selector placement and screen presentation can differ by region. Use the physical controls in your vehicle and verify labels on its display rather than relying on photographs from a different market. Imported vehicles may also have a connected service that is unavailable after relocation, even when the hardware remains installed.

- Choose Comfort, Sports, Energy Saving or Custom from the central-console main interface while your attention can remain safely on the stationary vehicle or a permitted operating situation.

- Check the instrument display after every lever or roller command.
- Keep monitoring the road and be ready to cancel assistance or take over.
- For app features, verify that the vehicle is bound to the correct account and that the requested function is actually offered in your market.
When to stop troubleshooting and seek vehicle-specific help
Use the official manual or an authorized AION service channel when a warning persists, a documented lever movement produces no response, an expected app function is absent after account setup, or the screen shows a message you cannot interpret. Have the vehicle identification details, market, trim, software version and the exact warning text available. That information lets support distinguish a normal equipment difference from a software or hardware fault.
Do not install an unofficial software package, change a hidden service setting or test an assistance feature by approaching an obstacle. The available guide supports basic operation; it does not authorize modifications or provide a safe procedure for defeating warnings. No accessory, physical add-on or aftermarket product is required for the documented mode, ACC, ICA or app procedures.
