The Kawasaki Versys 900 SE LT gives you four integrated riding modes—Sport, Road, Rain and Manual. The first three provide ready-made combinations of engine power delivery, traction-control behavior and electronic-suspension character; Manual lets you select the available systems yourself. The same motorcycle can also be equipped with ARAS rider-support functions: ACC Lite, forward-collision warning (FCW) and blind-spot detection (BSD).
To use them safely, make changes while stopped, confirm every setting on the instrument display, and treat all electronic aids as supplements to observation and control. Kawasaki states that ARAS is not a self-driving feature and requires rider intervention to avoid potential collisions.

What the Versys 900 riding modes change
On the Versys 900 SE LT, a riding mode is a coordinated setup rather than a single engine map. Kawasaki describes the integrated modes as adjusting traction control, power delivery and suspension character together. Selecting a mode therefore changes how the motorcycle responds to the throttle, how readily the rear tire is allowed to slip, and how the electronic suspension is characterized for the selected use.
The exact intervention levels and suspension behavior depend on the model-year configuration and market. Use the descriptions below as practical guidance, then verify the symbols and available adjustments on your motorcycle.

Sport
Sport is the performance-oriented setting. It is the logical choice when you want the most immediate throttle response and a more aggressive overall character on a dry, predictable road. The mode can make the motorcycle feel more eager when accelerating and changing direction, but it does not remove the need to manage grip, corner entry speed or surface hazards.
Road
Road is the broad everyday setting. It is intended as the general-purpose compromise for ordinary commuting, touring and mixed road conditions when you do not need the sharper response of Sport or the extra caution of Rain. It is usually the most sensible default after starting the motorcycle unless conditions, load or your planned riding make another mode more appropriate.
Rain
Rain is intended for reduced-grip conditions. Its coordinated settings favor smoother power delivery and a more conservative electronic response when the road is wet or otherwise slippery. Rain cannot create grip: painted markings, standing water, leaves, gravel, cold tires and worn tires can still overwhelm available traction. Reduce speed and increase following distance even when the mode is selected.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsManual
Manual is for a rider who wants to choose the available systems individually instead of accepting one of the three preset combinations. It is useful when, for example, you want Road-like power delivery but a different suspension character, or when luggage and a passenger make a different chassis setup preferable. Availability of individual settings, their ranges and the way they are stored can vary by model year and market.

How to change the riding mode
The display exposes riding-mode, rider-aid, KQS, RIDEOLOGY, navigation and trip/vehicle indicators. That makes it possible to verify what is active, but it also means you should not rely on memory after a restart, a service visit or a change in conditions.
- Stop safely. Pull off the road or remain stationary in a secure location. Do not explore configuration menus while moving.
- Identify the mode control. Use the mode switch and instrument prompts supplied for your specific Versys 900 SE LT. Kawasaki can change switch timing, confirmation behavior and menu layout between model years.
- Select Sport, Road, Rain or Manual. Move through the available choices and wait for the instrument cluster to show the selected mode. If the display does not confirm the change, do not assume it was applied.
- Check the related indicators. Confirm that the riding-mode indication and the relevant rider-aid symbols match your intention before moving off.
- Test at a conservative pace. In a safe area, use gentle throttle and braking to learn the new response. A mode change can alter the motorcycle’s feel immediately, particularly when moving from Rain or Road to Sport.
There is no single button-by-button procedure that is confirmed for every Versys 900 model year and market. The owner’s manual for your motorcycle is the authority for the required speed, switch timing, confirmation screen and whether a selection is applied immediately or must be saved.

How to customize Manual mode
Manual mode is not a license to disable judgment. It is a way to choose the systems that the motorcycle makes available for individual adjustment. The practical sequence is to change one system, verify its indication, and only then move to the next.

- Choose the power-delivery setting. Select the available power or throttle character that suits the surface and your desired response. Use a smoother choice when grip is uncertain or when a passenger may be affected by abrupt acceleration.
- Set traction control. Select the available intervention level shown by the motorcycle. More intervention can help manage wheel slip, but it cannot compensate for excessive speed or a contaminated surface.
- Set the electronic suspension. Choose the available suspension character and, where the motorcycle provides them, the appropriate payload or load preset. A passenger, luggage or both can change the chassis requirements; use the payload guidance in the owner’s manual rather than guessing.
- Apply or save if required. Some model-year interfaces apply a change as soon as it is confirmed; others require an additional confirmation or save action. Follow the exact on-screen prompt and owner’s manual procedure.
- Verify the complete combination. Review the mode, power, traction-control and suspension indications before riding. If one item reverted, repeat that item and check whether the motorcycle requires a separate apply step.
- Ride a short evaluation loop. Use a low-risk area and gradual inputs. If the response is not what you expected, return to Road or another known preset before making more changes.
Do not copy a menu sequence from a Versys 1100 manual or another Kawasaki model. A 2025 Versys 1100 owner’s manual is documentation for that different model, not proof of the correct Versys 900 procedure.
Choosing a mode for real riding situations
Dry touring with one rider
Road is the sensible starting point for an ordinary trip. Sport may suit a rider who deliberately wants a sharper response on a clear, dry section, but change only when you have room to accommodate the different throttle character.
Wet commuting
Rain provides the reduced-grip-oriented preset. Select it before entering the wet section, keep the motorcycle upright where possible, and make throttle, brake and steering inputs progressively. Standing water and hydroplaning remain physical risks that electronics cannot eliminate.
Passenger and luggage
Begin with the mode that gives you predictable power delivery, then set the electronic suspension or payload option available for the actual load. A fully loaded touring motorcycle may need a different suspension selection from a solo commute. Allow extra braking distance and avoid evaluating a new load setting at high speed.
Confident rider on a dry, familiar road
Sport can provide the performance-oriented response many riders want in these conditions. It should not be used to justify entering a corner faster than visibility, grip or your escape options allow.

Unusual combination of preferences
Use Manual when none of the presets gives the balance you need. Change one parameter at a time and record what you chose, especially if you may want to recreate the setup later. The exact memory and save behavior is model-year specific.
Rider aids on the Versys 900 SE LT
The rider-support package includes traction control, power modes, ABS and cornering-management functions, IMU-based chassis awareness, electronic suspension, quick shifting and cruise-control-related functions. These systems work together to support the rider; they do not transfer responsibility for speed, lane position or hazard avoidance to the motorcycle.
ABS and cornering management
ABS helps manage brake locking, while cornering-management functions and IMU-based chassis awareness allow the motorcycle’s control systems to account for changing attitude and lean-related conditions. Maintain a safe speed and use both brakes smoothly. Electronic assistance cannot make an unsafe entry speed safe.
Electronic suspension
Electronic suspension is part of the integrated mode concept and can also be available for individual adjustment in Manual. Use the motorcycle’s load or payload choices when provided, and make changes before riding. The correct selection depends on the rider, passenger, luggage and the specific model-year menu.
Kawasaki Quick Shifter (KQS)
KQS is described as enabling clutchless upshifts and downshifts. Use the shift technique, engine-speed range and operating conditions specified in the owner’s manual. If a shift is rough or the system does not engage, return to normal clutch use and investigate the indicator or manual guidance rather than forcing the lever.
ARAS: ACC Lite, FCW and BSD
The Versys 900 SE LT’s ARAS package combines three separate awareness and assistance functions. Their settings are independent of the basic Sport, Road, Rain and Manual choice, so selecting Rain does not by itself configure every ARAS option.

ACC Lite following distance
ACC Lite provides three following-distance choices: Near, Medium and Far. The setting changes the intended gap used by the assistance system; it does not remove the rider’s duty to monitor traffic, cover the controls as appropriate and intervene. Choose a longer distance when visibility, weather, traffic speed or stopping conditions are uncertain.

Forward-collision warning (FCW)
FCW offers three alert-timing choices: Early, Medium and Late. It can also be turned off. Earlier warning can provide more time to assess a developing hazard, while later timing may produce fewer early alerts but leaves less warning time. No setting can detect every hazard or guarantee avoidance.
Blind-spot detection (BSD)
BSD warns with an LED in the rear-view mirror. Treat the LED as an additional prompt to check the mirror and blind spot, not as confirmation that a lane is clear. Motorcycles, bicycles, rapidly approaching vehicles, obstructions and unusual road geometry can limit what any detection system recognizes.
What ARAS cannot do
Kawasaki explicitly states: “ARAS is not a self-driving feature and requires rider intervention to avoid potential collisions.” Keep scanning ahead and behind, maintain a safe lane position and be prepared to brake, steer or cancel assistance immediately. Weather, road curvature, traffic behavior and sensor conditions can affect alerts and operation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to configure ARAS safely
- Stop before opening the settings. Park securely and keep the motorcycle stable.
- Select ACC Lite’s distance. Choose Near, Medium or Far according to traffic conditions and the amount of time you want to preserve for intervention.
- Select FCW timing. Choose Early, Medium or Late, or turn FCW off only when you have a deliberate reason and understand that no warning will be provided by that function.
- Locate the BSD indicators. Know where the rear-view-mirror LEDs appear and what they look like in daylight and at night.
- Confirm the display. Check the rider-aid indicators and any warning messages before moving.
- Practice without depending on the aid. In a safe environment, learn the alerts and controls while continuing to use normal visual checks and defensive riding.
The exact switch sequence, activation conditions and save behavior are not established for every Versys 900 model year and market in the available documentation. Follow the owner’s manual supplied with your motorcycle for those details.

The motorcycle feels sharper or softer than expected
Check whether the mode changed more than power delivery. Integrated modes can also alter traction-control and suspension character. Return to Road for a known general-purpose baseline, then change one Manual setting at a time.
Manual settings did not remain
Some configurations may require an explicit apply or save action, and some settings can be limited by operating conditions. Re-enter Manual while stationary and follow the exact confirmation sequence for your motorcycle.
An ARAS alert is absent
Do not infer that the road is clear. Check the selected ACC Lite, FCW and BSD states, the instrument warnings and the owner’s manual’s operating conditions. Continue using direct visual observation and be ready to intervene.
KQS does not shift smoothly
Use the clutch and conventional shifting, then check the KQS indication and the manual’s permitted engine-speed and load conditions. A quick shifter is an aid for the specified conditions, not a requirement to force every shift clutchlessly.
Keeping settings consistent between rides
Before a long trip, note the mode and ARAS selections you intend to use, particularly if another rider may operate the motorcycle. Recheck them after ignition cycles, maintenance or a change from solo to two-up travel. The display is the final confirmation; do not rely on a remembered setting or on how the motorcycle felt on the previous ride.
For the definitive switch layout, activation conditions, suspension-load presets and save/apply procedure, use the owner’s manual for your exact Versys 900 SE LT model year and market. Kawasaki’s Versys 900 owner resources and accessory information should likewise be matched to that model rather than substituted with Versys 1100 documentation.
