Update the mobile number on a driving licence through Sarathi
- Open the official Sarathi portal, linked from the Parivahan website.
- Select the state or union territory responsible for the driving licence.
- Choose Others, then look for Mobile Number Update.
- Follow the selected jurisdiction’s on-screen instructions and submit the request through the portal.
- If the service is not listed or the portal does not accept the request, contact the relevant state licensing authority or RTO for its current procedure. The official guidance does not establish one fallback process for every state.
Parivahan’s FAQ gives the Sarathi menu route for updating a driving-licence mobile number. A government notice says the online facility is available without visiting an RTO; this does not guarantee that every jurisdiction or individual case will be completed online.
What can vary by state or union territory
Parivahan says services are configured by states, so the live portal for the jurisdiction selected is the authority for the steps available to you. The shared official instructions do not establish a universal OTP method, fee, document list, processing time, or appointment requirement. Check the portal’s current directions rather than relying on a procedure described for another state.
Driving-licence updates are different from vehicle-record updates
This process concerns the mobile number associated with a driving-licence record. If you need to change contact details for a vehicle registration, use the separate Vahan vehicle-record service; its guidance refers to vehicle registration and identifying details. Updating one record should not be assumed to update the other.
