As of October 13, 2026, Mercedes-Benz’s customer-ready home vehicle-to-grid (V2G) service is confirmed in Germany. The launch covers the electric GLC and C-Class and combines MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent, The Mobility House Energy’s 11 kW ChargeLine Bidi bidirectional DC wallbox, the Intelligent Pro Eco electricity tariff, a smart meter and Mercedes account activation. Confirm your country, exact vehicle and digital-feature eligibility before buying equipment: owning a Mercedes EV or an ordinary home wallbox does not by itself enable grid export.
What you are setting up
V2G allows electricity to move in both directions: the grid charges the vehicle when conditions are suitable, and the vehicle sends stored energy back to the public grid when the service schedules it. Mercedes’ German package automates those decisions and shows charging, feed-in and resulting credits in its app. Compensation is described per plugged-in hour, with an annual-bonus illustration tied to an average of 12 hours connected each day.

This is different from simply charging faster at home. A conventional AC wallbox supplies energy to the car but does not prove that the vehicle can discharge, that the charger can reverse power flow, or that your utility permits export.
Where Mercedes home V2G is available
Germany: the confirmed launch market
The October 12, 2026 Mercedes-Benz announcement identifies Germany as the market where the integrated home offer is available. It names the electric GLC and C-Class as the first models covered. Mercedes says additional models are planned, but planned expansion is not the same as present eligibility.

France, the United Kingdom and other markets
A September 2025 announcement described an intended initial rollout in Germany, France and the United Kingdom. It also noted that regulatory conditions, especially for feeding electricity into the grid, were not yet in place in some countries. That historical plan does not establish that the service is live in France or the UK in October 2026. Check the current Mercedes offer and your energy provider in the country where the car and charger will be installed.
United States
The Mercedes-Benz USA product information describes a conventional home Wallbox rated up to 11.5 kW and portable Level 1 and Level 2 equipment. It does not establish bidirectional operation or confirm that the German MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent package is sold in the United States. Treat ordinary U.S. home charging and the German V2G service as separate products.

The activation footnote requires the “Vorrüstung für MB.CHARGE Home Pro” digital extra. A future model may therefore need an over-the-air feature activation after market launch. Mercedes also says the electric CLA and GLC are technically prepared for bidirectional charging with a compatible DC wallbox. Technical preparation is not a promise that the customer service, tariff or grid-export permission is already available for every vehicle or country.

The ChargeLine Bidi is specified for home use and supports vehicles using 400 V and 800 V technology. Voltage support alone does not certify a particular Mercedes vehicle for the service; software activation, market rules and the account-linked package remain decisive.
Step-by-step: how to set up Mercedes home V2G in Germany
- Confirm that Germany and your address are supported. Ask Mercedes and your energy provider whether the integrated service can be contracted at the installation address. Do this before paying a deposit for a charger, because feed-in rules and provider requirements are market-specific.
- Check the exact vehicle record. Record the model, model year and vehicle identification details, then verify that the electric GLC or C-Class is shown as eligible. If you have another model, ask whether its announced activation has actually opened. A statement that a car is “bidirectional-ready” is not sufficient without service availability.
- Verify the digital preparation and account link. Confirm that the vehicle has the “Vorrüstung für MB.CHARGE Home Pro” digital extra where required. MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent is linked to your Mercedes me ID and vehicle account, so resolve any account, ownership or software-activation issue before installation.
- Arrange the electricity tariff and smart meter. Apply for the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Pro Eco tariff if the current offer requires it, and confirm that a compatible smart meter is installed and commissioned. Ask who owns the meter data connection and how feed-in credits will be calculated.
- Get a site assessment from a qualified installer. The installer should assess the service connection, distribution board, cable route, protective devices, earthing, mounting location, communications and any local export-control requirements. Mercedes does not publish one universal panel-upgrade, permit or installation-price checklist, so the answer must come from the installer and local utility.
- Order the named bidirectional DC wallbox through the eligible package. The German launch names The Mobility House Energy ChargeLine Bidi, rated at 11 kW. Do not substitute a generic “bidirectional EV charger” unless Mercedes and the energy provider explicitly confirm compatibility with your vehicle and service.
- Complete installation and commissioning. Have the installer connect and test the wallbox, smart-meter data path and required protection. Keep the commissioning record and any utility approval; future troubleshooting will depend on knowing whether the fault is in the car, charger, meter or grid connection.
- Activate the service in the Mercedes account and app. Follow the current account and charger-pairing instructions supplied with the package. Confirm that the app displays the vehicle, charging state and the service’s feed-in or credit information rather than only ordinary charging.
- Run a supervised first cycle. Plug in during a period when the vehicle can remain connected. Check that scheduled charging starts, that the car remains available for the required window, and that any discharge event is recorded. Do not unplug early if you are testing a compensation period; the bonus illustration depends on connected time.
- Review credits and operating limits. Compare the app’s charging, feed-in and credit records with your tariff statement. Keep the vehicle connected for the hours you have agreed to provide, but retain enough battery for your next trip. The service’s actual bonus varies with bidirectional availability and plug-in time.

The €1,990 price, €250 credit and more-than-€500 figure are launch terms or company estimates, not guaranteed returns. The annual illustration is conditional on taking the Intelligent Pro Eco tariff and averaging 12 connected hours per day. Tariff terms, customer limits, taxes, grid rules and bonus formulas can change, so read the contract that applies to your address.
V2G, V2H and V2L: choose the outcome you actually need

Mercedes describes AC systems as capable of V2L and, with a bidirectional AC wallbox, potentially V2H, V2B and V2G. AC hardware may reduce infrastructure cost but involves more complex standardization. DC systems return energy through a bidirectional DC wallbox and can offer efficiency advantages, particularly when a shared hybrid inverter is used, but may require more expensive infrastructure. The announced customer package specifically uses bidirectional DC equipment.

AC home charging is not V2G
An ordinary AC wallbox is a one-way charging appliance unless the vehicle, wallbox, control system and utility arrangement all support reverse flow. The U.S. Mercedes-Benz Wallbox’s stated 11.5 kW maximum describes its charging output; it does not establish discharge capability. Likewise, a portable Level 1 or Level 2 cable cannot be treated as a V2G system merely because it charges a Mercedes EV.

When comparing equipment, ask five separate questions: does the exact vehicle support discharge, is the service activated for the model and country, is the charger bidirectional, does the meter and tariff permit export, and is the property approved for the intended grid connection?
Installation and grid checks that can stop a project
- Electrical capacity: An 11 kW DC charger may require work in the service connection or distribution board. Only an on-site assessment can establish whether an upgrade is needed.
- Protection and isolation: DC charging equipment needs the protective devices and earthing arrangement specified by its installation instructions and local electrical code.
- Metering: A conventional meter may not provide the data needed to distinguish household consumption, charging and exported energy. Mercedes lists a smart meter as a requirement.
- Export permission: Some utilities require registration, technical approval or limits on feed-in. Mercedes warns that market-specific legislation and energy-provider requirements can affect use.
- Communications: Managed charging and credit reporting depend on the charger, vehicle, account and meter exchanging data. Confirm mobile or broadband coverage at the installation point.
- Vehicle availability: A trip, low state of charge or software condition can make the battery unavailable for a scheduled discharge event and reduce the compensation earned.
Common problems and practical fixes
The app shows charging but no feed-in
First check that the car is one of the eligible models for your country and that the MB.CHARGE Home Pro preparation and activation are present. Then confirm the Intelligent Pro Eco tariff, smart-meter commissioning and local export approval. If those conditions are met, have the installer and service provider check the charger-to-account and meter data connection.

The vehicle is technically prepared but cannot be enrolled
Technical readiness is only one layer. Ask Mercedes to verify the model’s market launch and digital activation status, and ask the energy provider whether the tariff and grid-market service operate at your address. Planned models and over-the-air activation dates should not be treated as current availability.
The bonus is lower than the illustration
The published figure assumes an average of 12 plugged-in hours per day and is conditional on the specified tariff. Actual compensation changes with the time the car is connected and with whether the vehicle is available for bidirectional charging. Compare the app’s connected-hour and feed-in records with the tariff statement before disputing an amount.

That is not necessarily an error. Mercedes does not provide a universal panel-upgrade, permit or installation-price list. Electrical upgrades, utility registration and export controls depend on the property and jurisdiction; request the requirement in writing and obtain a local quote.

You need backup power during an outage
Do not assume V2G provides emergency home power. Grid export, V2H operation and islanded backup require different controls and safety arrangements. Ask specifically whether the proposed installation supports V2H or backup; the German V2G announcement alone does not establish that capability.
How to decide whether Mercedes V2G is worth installing
- Choose the integrated V2G setup if you are in a confirmed market, own an eligible vehicle, can keep it plugged in for the required periods, and value automated grid participation and the published conditional credit.
- Choose ordinary AC home charging if your priority is inexpensive overnight charging, your country lacks a confirmed V2G service, or you cannot meet the smart-meter, tariff or export requirements.
- Investigate V2H separately if your main goal is resilience or using solar energy in the house. Ask for a system designed and approved for home supply rather than assuming a grid-export package will run household circuits during an outage.
- Consider V2L only for device power when you need to operate selected appliances or tools and your exact Mercedes model provides an approved way to do so.
Use supported vehicle and model-year status, country and utility eligibility, bidirectional DC versus ordinary AC operation, wallbox and installation cost, tariff terms, smart-meter requirements and the intended outcome—grid export, home use or device power—as the comparison checklist.
What the published figures do—and do not—mean
Mercedes-Benz and The Mobility House Energy have attributed a joint analysis to a future fleet of two million bidirectionally capable vehicles, nearly half of current renewable-energy curtailment and system electricity-cost savings in the three-digit-million range. The announcement passage does not provide the assumptions or an exact savings figure, so these statements are projections rather than independently verified measurements for a household installation.

That is a company statement about the intended benefits, not a guarantee of an individual customer’s earnings.

- Country and installation address confirmed as eligible.
- Exact Mercedes model, model year and vehicle account checked.
- “Vorrüstung für MB.CHARGE Home Pro” digital preparation confirmed where required.
- MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent and Mercedes me ID link verified.
- Intelligent Pro Eco tariff terms accepted or confirmed as available.
- Smart meter installed, commissioned and able to share the required data.
- ChargeLine Bidi availability and 11 kW site compatibility confirmed.
- Installer has checked service capacity, protection, communications and mounting.
- Utility or energy-provider export requirements documented.
- Launch price, customer-limit, credit and bonus conditions read in the current contract.
Bottom line
For a German owner of an eligible electric GLC or C-Class, Mercedes’ home V2G setup is a coordinated service rather than a single-box purchase: vehicle activation, the 11 kW ChargeLine Bidi DC wallbox, MB.CHARGE Home Pro Intelligent, the Intelligent Pro Eco tariff, a smart meter and local grid approval all have to align. The introductory €1,990 wallbox price and estimated annual bonus can make the launch attractive, but both are conditional and time-limited. Outside confirmed markets—or when you only have a conventional AC wallbox—treat Mercedes home charging as one-way charging until Mercedes, your energy provider and your installer verify bidirectional operation in writing.
