How to turn regenerative braking on
- Select D. The manual procedure starts with the car in D. Do not try to use the B-button sequence while another drive-unit position is selected.
- Press the dedicated B button. This toggles regenerative-braking mode on.
- Check the LED. The LED in the B button should illuminate, confirming that B is active.
- Lift off the accelerator gradually. The car should slow more strongly than it does in ordinary D operation, while the system recovers energy for the high-voltage battery.
There is no additional menu, charging setting or accessory required for this procedure. B is controlled from the vehicle’s built-in button.
How to switch B mode off
- Keep the car in D.
- Press the B button again.
- Confirm that the mode indication changes and the B-button LED is no longer showing B as active.
- Release the accelerator cautiously on the next lift-off so you can feel that the car has returned to its ordinary D response.
The button is a toggle: one press activates B and a second press deactivates it. If the indication does not change, repeat the check that D is selected before pressing the button again.

What happens when the high-voltage battery is full
Regenerative power may be limited when the high-voltage battery is fully charged. That means B can remain selected while the car provides less energy recovery than you normally feel. The lift-off response may therefore differ between a battery that has room for additional charge and one that is at or near full charge.
Do not treat the B setting as a fixed mechanical braking level. Its energy-recovery capability depends on whether the battery can accept more charge. Allow extra distance and use the vehicle’s normal braking controls as needed, particularly at the start of a journey after a full charge or on a long descent.

B mode versus the Abarth drive modes

Stop-and-go traffic
B can make repeated short speed changes easier because lifting off the accelerator produces more deceleration. Leave enough space for traffic to stop unexpectedly and avoid treating the setting as an automatic stop function. The manual’s recommendation concerns the mode’s usefulness in this type of traffic, not autonomous driving.

Deep snow
The manual lists B for deep snow. Engage it only when you are prepared for the stronger lift-off response, and apply the accelerator progressively. Snow reduces available grip, so smooth inputs and a speed appropriate to conditions remain essential.
Mud
B is also listed for mud. Because surface grip can change quickly, test the response gently and avoid abrupt transitions between acceleration and lift-off. If the vehicle does not respond as expected, reassess the selected mode and road conditions before continuing.
Troubleshooting the B-button procedure
The B LED does not illuminate
- Confirm that D is selected; D is the required starting position.
- Press the B button once and check the button indication again.
- If the indication still does not change, press B a second time only after confirming the current state, then consult the owner manual supplied with your vehicle.
The car does not slow as strongly as expected
- Check whether B is actually active by looking at the button LED.
- Consider whether the high-voltage battery is fully charged; regenerative power may be limited in that condition.
- Check whether Scorpion Track is selected. An indexed 2025 manual result states that regenerative braking is unavailable in that mode, but this limitation must be verified for your exact vehicle.
- Use the normal braking controls and allow additional distance rather than assuming a particular deceleration level.
B will not operate in Scorpion Track

The car remains in B when you want normal coasting behavior
