Short answer: A Lexus RZ can schedule when AC charging starts, or define a start-and-stop charging window, from the center display. It can store up to 15 schedules and offers a temporary Charge Now override. The cited RZ owner manual does not promise that the battery will reach a chosen percentage by a departure time. Charge-limit controls are model- and software-dependent: Lexus has announced them in the latest Lexus Interface for the 2026 ES 350e and ES 500e, but that announcement does not establish the same menu or an 80% setting for every RZ or Lexus EV.
What you can schedule in a Lexus EV
Lexus uses two different ideas that are often described as a “departure-time” feature:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- A charging start time: the vehicle waits until a specified time, then begins normal AC charging and continues until the battery is full.
- A charging window: the vehicle charges only between a selected start time and stop time.
The Lexus RZ owner manual documents both modes on the vehicle’s center display. It does not describe a function that works backward from your departure time, guarantees a target state of charge, or guarantees that the battery will be ready when you leave. Treat the stop time as the end of an allowed charging window, not as a promised departure-ready time.

Charge limits are a separate control. Lexus’s announcement for the latest-generation Lexus Interface says EV Charge Management can set charging schedules and charge limits, with the 2026 ES 350e and ES 500e given as battery-electric examples. Lexus has not established in that announcement that every RZ model year, market, or software version exposes the same control. Use the exact owner manual and the menus in your vehicle before assuming that an 80% limit is available.

Before you create a schedule
- Use the vehicle’s normal AC charging connection. The RZ schedule is not used for DC fast charging or vehicle-to-home (V2H) charging and discharging.
- Turn the vehicle on fully. The RZ manual says a schedule cannot be configured in ACC mode or while driving.
- Check the vehicle’s clock, date, and time zone. An incorrect date or time can prevent a timer from starting on the intended day.
- Have the charging connector plugged in when the scheduled event is supposed to run. A saved schedule does not replace the physical connection.
- Confirm your market and model year. Screen labels and available features can differ between Lexus EVs and software generations.
The schedule is a vehicle setting; you do not need to buy a separate home charger to create it. A suitable AC supply is still required for the car to charge at the selected time.
How to set an RZ charging schedule
The following sequence follows the Lexus RZ owner manual’s center-display procedure. Your language, market, or software revision may use slightly different wording, so compare the labels with the manual for your exact vehicle.
- Power the vehicle on. Do not attempt to configure the timer in ACC mode or while driving.
- Open the Charging Schedule screen on the center display.
- Select Add. This creates a new timed event.
- Choose a charging mode. Select either Start at set time or Start and stop at set times.
- Enter the time or times. The first mode requires a start time. The second requires both a start and a stop time.
- Select repeat days if the event should recur. You can choose one or more days rather than making every schedule daily.
- Select OK, then Save. Saving is what registers the event; leaving the screen before saving does not create a usable schedule.
- Connect the normal AC charging connector. The vehicle uses the saved event when the connector is attached and the selected day and time arrive.
Choosing “Start at set time”
This mode delays normal AC charging until the selected start time. Once charging begins, it continues until the battery is full, subject to the vehicle and charging equipment’s normal limits. It is useful when you want to avoid charging immediately after plugging in, but it does not let you specify a finishing percentage or a departure deadline.

Choosing “Start and stop at set times”
This mode creates a charging window. Charging is allowed between the start and stop times you enter. Because the manual describes a window rather than a departure-readiness calculation, a short window, a low-power outlet, a cold battery, or other conditions can leave the vehicle below your preferred level at the stop time.
Registering several recurring events
The RZ manual says up to 15 schedules may be registered. Use separate events when your routine differs by day, such as a weekday overnight window and a different weekend window. Review the repeat-day selection on each event so that two schedules do not unintentionally overlap.
How to charge immediately when a schedule is active
The RZ schedule includes a Charge Now control for a temporary override. Use it when you need the car to begin charging without deleting or editing the recurring event. The manual says unplugging the connector turns that override off, so reconnecting later returns the vehicle to the saved scheduling behavior.

Not in the sense of a documented “leave at 7:00 a.m. at 80%” command for the RZ. The cited manual provides a start time and a start-and-stop window. It does not state that the RZ estimates the energy needed, guarantees a selected battery percentage at departure, or preconditions the cabin and battery by a target time.
If you need the highest practical charge before leaving, allow a sufficiently long AC window and verify the battery level before unplugging. Charging speed varies with the outlet or EVSE, battery temperature, the starting state of charge, and other vehicle conditions. Do not interpret a saved stop time as a guarantee that the vehicle will be ready for a particular journey.

How to set a charge limit
First determine whether your vehicle actually exposes a charge-limit control. Lexus’s latest-generation Lexus Interface announcement says EV Charge Management can set schedules and charge limits in the vehicle. The announcement identifies the 2026 ES 350e and ES 500e as examples and says app access requires an active Remote Connect trial or subscription. It does not provide a universal RZ menu path or confirm that every model year has the feature.
For an RZ or another Lexus EV, use this verification process rather than assuming an 80% setting exists:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Open the vehicle’s charging or EV Charge Management area on the center display.
- Look for a control labeled Charge limit, Maximum charge, or similar wording. If no such control appears, consult the owner manual for that exact model year and market.
- If a percentage selector is provided, choose the value required by the on-screen instructions and save it. Do not infer a recommended percentage from another Lexus model.
- If the feature is offered through the Lexus app, confirm that the vehicle has the required Lexus Interface generation and an active Remote Connect trial or subscription before troubleshooting the app.
- After saving, plug in on AC and check the vehicle display or app to verify that the limit is shown for the current charging session.
The common phrase “80% charge limit” is not, by itself, evidence that your Lexus has an 80% option or that Lexus recommends that percentage for every battery. The available Lexus material does not establish a universal daily percentage for all RZ versions, so use only the values and guidance documented for your vehicle.

Home charging equipment and what the schedule requires
Lexus says the RZ includes a dual-voltage charging cable for 120-volt and 240-volt outlets. That cable is sufficient to use the vehicle’s built-in schedule when connected to a compatible AC receptacle; a separate wall-mounted charger is not required to configure or use the in-car timer.
Lexus has also identified ChargePoint Home Flex as an optional Level 2 home-charging solution and Qmerit as a service that can help customers find a certified electrician and obtain an initial quote. These are installation and equipment choices, not prerequisites for opening the RZ Charging Schedule screen.
| Home-charging option | What it means for scheduling | Electrical and practical considerations |
|---|---|---|
| 120 V outlet with the included mobile cable | Use the RZ’s vehicle schedule; charging begins or stops according to the saved event. | Uses a standard outlet but generally supplies less power, so a long charging window may be necessary. The outlet and circuit must be suitable for sustained EV charging. |
| 240 V outlet with the included dual-voltage cable | Uses the same in-car schedule while providing a higher-voltage AC supply. | Requires an appropriate 240 V receptacle and circuit. Have an electrician verify the installation rather than assuming any outlet is suitable. |
| Dedicated Level 2 EVSE | The RZ schedule remains available; some EVSE products may also have their own timers, which can conflict with the vehicle schedule. | Confirm connector, amperage, electrical-panel capacity, placement, and local installation requirements. Lexus described Home Flex as delivering up to nine times the speed of a standard 120 V outlet and up to 25 miles of range per hour under ideal conditions; those are manufacturer “up to” figures, not a guarantee for every installation. |
If both the vehicle and EVSE have schedules, avoid setting one device to block the other. A car waiting for its start time cannot charge while a charger’s own timer is also disabled; if you use both, make their allowed windows overlap.

Lexus has changed the RZ’s charging connector by model year. Lexus says the 2026 RZ adopts NACS, while earlier RZ materials identify CCS1 for 2024 models. Connector choice is therefore not a generic “Lexus EV” decision.
| Vehicle information | What the Lexus material establishes | What you should verify |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 RZ | Lexus says the model adopts NACS. | Confirm the exact market, vehicle build, included cables, and compatibility of the EVSE you plan to install. |
| Earlier RZ material, including 2024 models | Lexus materials describe CCS1. | Check the port on the vehicle and the connector on any home EVSE or public-charging adapter before purchase. |
| Any other Lexus EV or model year | The cited material does not establish one connector or one schedule menu for all vehicles. | Use the exact owner manual and the vehicle identification information supplied by Lexus for your region. |
What happens with DC fast charging?
The RZ’s timed AC schedule does not apply to DC fast charging. Plugging into a DC fast charger is therefore not a way to make the saved overnight timer run sooner or stop at its scheduled time. DC charging follows the charger and vehicle session controls instead.
Lexus recommends no more than three DC fast-charging sessions per day for the RZ. Lexus also says repeated DC sessions may reduce charging speed afterward, with performance recovering over time. That advice is separate from the AC schedule and is not a setting you need to enable.
Quick Recap
Troubleshooting a schedule that did not run
The car started charging immediately
- Check whether Charge Now was activated. The temporary override bypasses the recurring schedule until the connector is unplugged.
- Confirm that the connector is seated and that the event was saved rather than merely entered.
- Review the selected repeat day. A schedule for Tuesday will not run on Wednesday unless that day was selected.
- Check whether the vehicle was connected to an AC source. The RZ schedule does not govern a DC fast-charge session.
The car did not start at the expected time
- Verify the vehicle’s date, clock, and time zone. A wrong calendar date can make a correctly entered time appear to fail.
- Make sure the vehicle was not in the state or operating condition that prevents schedule configuration, such as ACC mode or driving when you attempted to edit it.
- Confirm that the charging cable and supply are energized. A timer cannot start a session if the outlet, circuit, or EVSE is unavailable.
- Check for an overlapping EVSE timer. The car may be requesting charge while the wall unit is still set to deny power.
The battery was not full at the stop time
- Read the event as a charging-window limit, not as a guaranteed completion time.
- Compare the window with the power available from the outlet or EVSE and the amount of energy needed.
- Inspect for interruptions caused by a tripped breaker, a paused EVSE session, or a connector that was removed and reinserted outside the intended event.
- If your vehicle offers a charge-limit control, check whether the selected limit intentionally stopped charging below 100%.
The charge-limit option is missing
- Confirm the model year and market. The announced control is tied to the latest Lexus Interface and is explicitly illustrated with the 2026 ES 350e and ES 500e.
- Check the exact owner manual for your RZ or other Lexus EV instead of using another model’s instructions.
- Verify that your app account and Remote Connect status meet Lexus’s stated requirements if you are attempting to manage charging remotely.
- Do not create an 80% value by inference. If the vehicle does not present that percentage, there is no source-backed basis to claim that it supports a universal 80% limit.
A practical overnight setup
- Decide whether you need a delayed start or a bounded charging window. Choose Start at set time when charging may continue until full; choose Start and stop at set times when you need charging restricted to particular hours.
- Estimate the time available between plugging in and leaving, allowing for the lower output of a 120 V outlet if that is your supply.
- Set the event on the center display while the vehicle is fully on, select the relevant repeat days, and save it.
- Connect the AC cable and confirm that the vehicle recognizes the scheduled session.
- For an occasional early trip, use Charge Now rather than editing the recurring event; unplug afterward to cancel the override.
- Before a critical departure, check the displayed state of charge. The RZ’s documented timer controls do not provide a guaranteed departure-ready result.
Key distinctions to keep straight
| Question | Answer supported by the Lexus material |
|---|---|
| Can an RZ delay AC charging? | Yes. The manual documents Start at set time. |
| Can an RZ define an AC charging window? | Yes. The manual documents Start and stop at set times. |
| Can the documented RZ timer guarantee a battery percentage at departure? | Not established. The manual describes timed charging, not a departure-readiness guarantee. |
| Can every Lexus EV set an 80% limit? | Not established. Charge-limit availability depends on model year, market, and Lexus Interface generation. |
| Does the RZ schedule control DC fast charging? | No. The cited manual excludes DC fast charging and V2H charging/discharging. |
| Is a dedicated Level 2 charger required to set the schedule? | No. The RZ includes a dual-voltage 120 V/240 V cable; Level 2 equipment is optional. |
Before relying on the timer for a trip
- Confirm the exact RZ or Lexus EV model year and charging connector.
- Verify the vehicle clock, date, and time zone.
- Use an AC connection and leave the connector attached for the scheduled event.
- Check the selected mode, start and stop times, repeat days, and saved status.
- Make sure an EVSE timer is not blocking the vehicle’s requested window.
- Use Charge Now for one-off needs, then unplug to return to the saved schedule.
- Check the battery level before a time-sensitive departure rather than assuming the stop time means fully charged.
