The safest way to reduce vibration on a parallel-twin motorcycle is to diagnose its source before adding comfort accessories. First establish whether the sensation is a normal engine characteristic or a new, worsening, unusually strong, or localized symptom. Note whether it follows engine rpm or road speed and where it reaches you. If the motorcycle runs poorly, handling has changed, or the vibration appeared suddenly, arrange an inspection before riding farther. Once the motorcycle is mechanically sound, compatible bar-end weights, softer grips, and a relaxed grip can reduce discomfort at the handlebars, but none is a substitute for repair.
Why parallel twins do not all vibrate the same way
“Parallel twin” describes two cylinders arranged side by side; it does not specify one universal vibration level. Crankshaft layout, primary and secondary balance, firing characteristics, engine mounts, chassis stiffness, maintenance condition, and accessories all affect what the rider feels. Two motorcycles with the same cylinder arrangement can therefore have very different sensations at the bars, footpegs, seat, or tank.

Engine designers may use balance shafts and carefully designed mounts to control the forces that reach the chassis. A Suzuki accessory document describes a 776 cm³ parallel-twin engine with a biaxial primary balancer intended to suppress vibration and contribute to smooth operation. That is an example of one manufacturer’s design, not a specification for every parallel twin and not a measurement of vibration reduction on your motorcycle.

A steady, repeatable sensation at a particular rpm may be normal. A vibration that is new, getting worse, unusually intense, or concentrated in one component deserves a mechanical explanation.

Start with a safety triage
Stop treating it as a comfort issue when the symptom is new or severe
Do not attempt to mask a possible fault with heavier bar-end weights or thicker grips if the motorcycle has suddenly become rough. Stop and arrange an inspection if vibration is accompanied by poor running, misfiring, loss of power, unusual noise, fluid leakage, a loose-feeling control, or any change in steering, braking, stability, or wheel tracking. A handlebar accessory cannot correct a loose engine mount, damaged wheel component, or other mechanical problem.
Separate a familiar characteristic from a change
Think about when you first noticed the vibration and whether anything preceded it: maintenance, a fall, a tyre change, a new mirror or handguard, a luggage installation, or a long period of storage. Compare the current sensation with the motorcycle’s previous behavior, not with another model. If you cannot tell whether it has changed, ask an experienced mechanic to assess it rather than assuming it is normal.
Record the pattern before changing anything
A short written log gives a mechanic useful information and prevents you from chasing several variables at once. On a safe, familiar road, record observations rather than attempting aggressive tests.

- Where the vibration is felt: grips, bar, mirrors, levers, tank, seat, pegs, or the whole motorcycle.
- Gear, approximate engine rpm, road speed, and whether you are accelerating, cruising, or decelerating.
- Whether it occurs when the engine is working under load, when the throttle is closed, or only over bumps.
- Whether it is constant, appears in a narrow range, pulses, or changes with steering angle.
- When it started, whether it is worsening, and what work or accessory installation happened beforehand.
Do not hold an unsafe speed merely to reproduce a symptom. A mechanic can often obtain better information from your notes and a controlled inspection.
Use rpm and road speed as clues, not a diagnosis
The owner-oriented RD350 guidance recommends comparing engine rpm with road speed as a quick way to organize the problem. This comparison is useful, but it does not prove a cause by itself.

These are observations for triage, not a list of definitive diagnoses. A vibration can have more than one source, and a road-speed symptom can be transmitted through several components.
Follow the motorcycle’s own maintenance information
Exact inspection points, adjustment methods, tightening specifications, and maintenance intervals vary by make, model, year, and engine version. Use the owner’s manual for routine checks and the service manual for mechanical work. The broad guidance available here does not establish a universal torque value, balancer adjustment, carburetor procedure, throttle-body synchronization procedure, or permissible vibration limit.
Give running condition priority
Before buying an accessory, have the motorcycle’s basic running condition verified. Depending on the model, that can include the scheduled inspection of ignition, fueling, intake, exhaust, and engine-management systems. A twin that is not running evenly can feel harsher than one in correct tune. Do not adjust synchronization, idle settings, or balance-shaft components by a generic figure; follow the exact procedure and specifications for the motorcycle.
Have engine-mount hardware and related fasteners checked
The RD350 owner guidance places engine-mount hardware ahead of accessory changes. A mechanic should check the mounts, brackets, fasteners, and surrounding parts for looseness, damage, or evidence of movement using the model’s prescribed method. Do not guess at torque values or substitute a general “tighten it more” approach: over-tightening can damage threads or components, while under-tightening can allow movement.
Include recent work and modifications in the inspection
Tell the mechanic about tyre and wheel work, crash damage, new bars, risers, handguards, mirrors, luggage, engine protection, and any fastener that has been removed. An accessory can touch another part, alter the way a bar is supported, or introduce a new resonance. Restoring the original configuration temporarily can help isolate a change, but only if it can be done safely and according to the manual.

When the motorcycle is sound: reduce what reaches your hands
If inspection finds no fault and the discomfort is concentrated at the handlebars, comfort changes are reasonable. Treat them as experiments: change one item at a time, ride the same familiar route, and record the result. The available guidance does not provide a controlled head-to-head test or establish that one brand, material, or mass is universally best.

Bar-end weights
A suitable bar-end weight and mounting arrangement can reduce buzzing at some engine speeds on some motorcycles. KiWAV’s guidance emphasizes that the result depends on the motorcycle, existing dampers, mounting hardware, and speed. Weights may alter the frequency and amplitude that reach the grips; they do not remove every vibration source and they are not a mechanical repair.
Heavier is not automatically better. A weight that is incompatible with the bar or its inserts may be ineffective, unsafe, or impossible to secure. Before ordering, verify:
- Handlebar construction and internal diameter, including whether the bar is open, threaded, or fitted with a factory insert.
- The thread size, bolt length, expander or insert style, and the manufacturer’s installation method.
- Whether the original weights, sleeves, dampers, or spacers must remain in place.
- Clearance from the throttle tube, switchgear, levers, handguards, bar-end mirrors, and steering movement.
- That the finished installation leaves controls operating freely and does not create contact at full lock.
After installation, confirm that the throttle returns normally, both controls move without binding, and the weights cannot rotate or loosen. Recheck them after the first ride and at the interval specified by the accessory or motorcycle manufacturer.
Softer or larger grips
A softer compound or larger diameter can reduce pressure points and make the same vibration less tiring. This is a comfort change, not evidence that the vibration has been reduced at its source. A larger grip can also change reach and control feel, and a poorly fitted grip can rotate or interfere with the throttle. Confirm compatibility with the bar, throttle tube, heated-grip elements, handguards, and switchgear before fitting it.

Padded gloves
Padded gloves may reduce the sensation reaching the palms, particularly on longer rides. They do not diagnose or correct the motorcycle. Choose gloves that preserve secure control of the throttle, clutch, and brake; excessive padding or an overly tight fit can create new pressure points.
Relax your grip and moderate speed
Harley-Davidson’s 2021 safety guidance advises reducing speed and guiding the motorcycle with a relaxed grip. That is riding-safety advice, not a controlled demonstration that a relaxed grip cures vibration. A light, secure grip can prevent you from amplifying a buzz by clenching the bars, while lower speed may move the engine away from an uncomfortable range. Keep enough contact to operate the controls and maintain steering authority.
How to choose between comfort options

Install and evaluate one change at a time
- Document the baseline. Use the same notes for rpm, road speed, gear, riding condition, and location of the vibration.
- Confirm compatibility. Compare the accessory instructions with the motorcycle’s bar, inserts, controls, mirrors, and handguards. If the instructions do not clearly cover your setup, ask the manufacturer or a qualified mechanic.
- Install exactly as specified. Use the supplied hardware and the prescribed tightening method. Do not improvise spacers, thread engagement, or retaining parts.
- Perform a stationary safety check. With the engine off, turn the bars fully left and right, operate the throttle and levers, and check that nothing touches or binds. Start the engine only after confirming safe control movement.
- Ride conservatively. Test at legal speeds on a familiar route. Stop if the accessory moves, controls feel different, or handling changes.
- Compare and record. Note whether the discomfort changed, at which rpm or speed, and whether a new buzz appeared elsewhere.
- Keep or remove based on evidence. If the result is negligible or introduces interference, return to the safe original arrangement and seek advice rather than stacking more accessories.
Common mistakes that make vibration problems harder
Masking a new symptom
Installing weights immediately can make a serious change feel less obvious without fixing it. Establish that the motorcycle is running and mounted correctly first.
Assuming all vibration is engine vibration
A sensation at a particular road speed may be related to rotating or chassis components, while an rpm-linked sensation points the investigation in a different direction. Location and timing matter, and neither observation is conclusive alone.

Mass is only one part of a bar-end system. Internal mounting, retained dampers, bar construction, and interference with controls determine whether a part can be used safely.

Changing several parts together
New grips, weights, mirrors, and handguards installed at once prevent a useful comparison. One change at a time gives you a defensible result.
Using a generic torque or adjustment value
Parallel twins do not share one service specification. Use the exact manual for your motorcycle or have a qualified mechanic perform the work.
When to involve a qualified mechanic
Arrange professional diagnosis when the vibration is new, worsening, severe, localized to a control or wheel area, or associated with poor running, unusual noise, looseness, leakage, or handling changes. Also ask for help when the motorcycle has crash damage, nonstandard bars or mounts, or a modification whose compatibility is uncertain. Provide your observation log and identify any recent work. The mechanic can then reproduce the condition safely and follow the model-specific inspection sequence rather than guessing from the parallel-twin layout.
A practical decision path
- Is the vibration new, worsening, unusually strong, or linked to handling or poor running? Stop prioritizing comfort accessories and arrange inspection.
- Is it a familiar, repeatable sensation with no other symptoms? Record rpm, road speed, gear, riding condition, and location.
- Does it appear tied more closely to rpm or road speed? Treat that as a clue for the mechanic, not a final diagnosis.
- Has the motorcycle’s running condition and engine-mount hardware been checked according to its manual? If not, do that before modifying the bars.
- Is the discomfort confined to the bars after the motorcycle is confirmed sound? Consider one compatible accessory, beginning with fit and control clearance rather than maximum mass.
- Did the change help without introducing interference? Keep it only if the result is safe and meaningful; otherwise restore the previous setup and reassess.
What a successful result looks like
Success is not necessarily a vibration-free motorcycle. It is a motorcycle whose behavior is understood, whose mechanical condition is verified, and whose remaining normal character is comfortable enough for the rider. A compatible bar-end system or grip may reduce hand fatigue in a particular rpm range, while a relaxed grip and suitable gloves may make longer rides easier. If the sensation changes again, return to the diagnostic notes instead of assuming the accessory has solved the underlying cause.
