Plan the SuperPanther eTopas 600 around its 621 kWh CATL lithium-iron-phosphate battery, a manufacturer-stated range of up to 560 km, and a dual-CCS2 charging session of about 38 minutes from 20% to 80% when both ports and sufficient site power are available. Treat the range as a reference result, not a guaranteed route distance: payload, trailer, weather, elevation, speed, traffic and auxiliary loads can materially change energy use.
A workable dispatch plan starts with the actual mission, models consumption conservatively, schedules a truck-capable CCS2 stop before the battery reaches a critical state of charge, and assigns a reachable fallback. Connector presence alone is not enough; the site must accommodate the vehicle, support the required charging configuration and power, allow the planned dwell, and remain operational on the day.

Key eTopas 600 figures for route planning
| Item | Published figure | What it means for dispatch |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 621 kWh CATL LFP | Use the stated capacity as a starting reference. The documentation does not establish the exact energy available to the wheels at every state of charge. |
| Range | Up to 560 km | A reference result from a round trip on hilly European roads with mixed loads, not a universal route promise. |
| Planning consumption baseline | 1.1 kWh/km average combined consumption | Begin calculations here, then adjust for the actual load, road and operating conditions. |
| Charging window | Approximately 38 minutes from 20% to 80% | Applies when using both CCS2 ports and a compatible high-power installation. |
| Maximum dual-port power | 660 kW (2 × CCS2 maximum, according to DHL Group) | The vehicle or site may deliver less because of cabinet limits, power sharing, battery temperature or tapering. |
| Connectors | Two CCS2 ports, positioned on the left and right sides | Check cable reach, bay layout and whether the station permits simultaneous use. |
| Vehicle envelope | 6,475 × 2,550 × 3,980 mm | Verify turning clearance, bay length, overhead clearance and trailer positioning. |
| Gross combination weight | Up to 42 t | Confirm that the approach roads, parking area and charging bay are suitable for the complete combination. |
| Battery durability claim | Up to 4,500 full charge cycles and up to 1.2 million km or eight years | This is the manufacturer’s stated durability claim, not a guarantee of identical life in every duty cycle. |
The 1.1 kWh/km figure is an average combined baseline, not an energy curve for a particular payload or speed. Keep it separate from the 560 km reference range: one is an average consumption input and the other is the outcome of a specified road test.
Why the stated range cannot be used as a fixed route radius
SuperPanther describes its range measurement as a real-world European road-operation test conducted as a round trip that started and ended at the same location, across hilly terrain and with mixed load conditions. That makes the result useful as a benchmark, but it does not describe every motorway, grade, temperature or payload combination.

Energy demand rises or falls with factors that a simple map distance cannot see:
- Payload, gross combination weight and trailer aerodynamics.
- Elevation gain, sustained gradients and stop-start traffic.
- Cold or hot weather, wind and road surface.
- Average speed, congestion, speed limits and detours.
- Cab heating, air conditioning, refrigeration or other auxiliary equipment.
- Queueing, idling and time spent moving slowly in a charging site.
For a route with materially different conditions, recalculate from the 1.1 kWh/km baseline and apply conservative adjustments based on the fleet’s own telematics. Do not assume that a trip that is shorter than the headline range is automatically safe; the return leg, diversion options and arrival state-of-charge requirement all matter.
Step 1: Define the mission before opening a charger map
A route planner needs operational inputs, not just origin and destination. Record these items in the dispatch system:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Exact origin, destination and any scheduled intermediate stops.
- Departure date and time, expected arrival time and legally available driver-break windows.
- Payload, trailer type, gross combination weight and any unusual equipment.
- Road restrictions, low bridges, weight limits, urban access rules and time windows.
- Required state of charge on arrival, including any onward trip or emergency reserve.
- Whether the trailer must remain connected during charging and whether a driver can reposition it.
Break windows are particularly important. A charger that fits the energy model but requires a separate stop outside the driver’s legal break plan can create a schedule failure. Conversely, a planned break can be used productively only if the site can supply the required energy during that dwell.
Step 2: Build an energy baseline and adjust it
Start with the published average of 1.1 kWh/km. A simple first-pass estimate is:
Baseline traction energy = route kilometres × 1.1 kWh/km

That result is only the beginning. Adjust the consumption input for the actual payload, trailer, grades, temperature, wind, speed, traffic and auxiliary loads. Use measured results from comparable vehicles and routes whenever the fleet has them. If the trip includes a heavily loaded outbound leg and a lighter return, model the legs separately instead of using one average.

Do not convert the 621 kWh nameplate directly into a guaranteed usable-distance calculation. Battery-management limits, charging losses, reserve policy and conditions at the ends of the state-of-charge window affect what can be dispatched. Your planner should therefore track expected state of charge at each waypoint and show the assumptions behind that estimate.
Use operating data to improve the estimate
After each trip, retain distance, payload, trailer, weather, elevation, average speed, auxiliary use, energy added and state of charge at departure and arrival. Group results by route type and season. Over time, those records provide a more credible consumption distribution than a single catalogue number and reveal where the current model is systematically optimistic.
Step 3: Place charging stops before the battery becomes critical
Identify truck-accessible CCS2 locations while the modeled state of charge still leaves room for a diversion. A practical first choice is a site that can support the eTopas 600’s planned 20–80% window in roughly 38 minutes with both CCS2 ports. That timing is conditional: the vehicle configuration, station cabinets, cable arrangement and site power must all permit simultaneous charging.
Place the stop according to energy need and operational timing, not simply at the halfway point. A stop may need to occur earlier when the next truck-capable site is far away, a mountain section lies ahead, cold weather is expected or a fallback requires a detour. A later stop may work when the vehicle is lightly loaded and a reliable depot is available beyond it, but that decision should be supported by validated fleet data.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteCheck single-port and dual-port assumptions
The eTopas 600 has two CCS2 ports, but a site displaying a CCS2 connector does not automatically support two connectors on one truck at the same time. Confirm all of the following with the operator or site documentation:

- Both ports can be connected simultaneously on this vehicle.
- The chargers are enabled for dual-port operation rather than sharing one output sequentially.
- The combined output can approach the planned power, subject to the station’s power-sharing rules.
- Cable length and connector orientation reach the left and right vehicle ports without unsafe routing.
If only one port can be used, obtain an operator-confirmed dwell estimate for the required energy. Do not reuse the 38-minute dual-port figure for a single-port session.
Step 4: Test whether the site can physically handle the truck
Before approving a stop, check the complete vehicle envelope of 6,475 mm long, 2,550 mm wide and 3,980 mm high, together with the trailer and a gross combination weight of up to 42 t. A station designed for passenger cars may have a connector but still be unusable because of tight turns, short bays, weak pavement, low clearance or blocked exits.
- Confirm the approach road permits the vehicle’s weight and dimensions.
- Measure or verify turning radius, lane width, bay length and exit path.
- Check overhead clearance for the tractor, trailer and any raised equipment.
- Ensure the truck can align with both connectors without crossing a drive lane or blocking other users.
- Confirm that a connected trailer may remain in the bay for the entire session.
- Check whether queuing vehicles can wait without obstructing public roads.
Ask for site photographs, a truck layout or an operator confirmation when mapping data is ambiguous. A satellite image alone rarely shows the swept path of a 42-tonne combination.

Score every candidate against operational criteria rather than selecting the first pin on a map.
| Criterion | Questions to answer | Why it can change the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Truck access | Are the approach roads legal and suitable for the dimensions and weight? Is there enough turning and parking space? | An electrically compatible site is useless if the truck cannot enter, align or leave. |
| Connector arrangement | Are there two CCS2 connectors with sufficient cable reach? Can both be used on one vehicle? | Dual-port capability determines whether the planned dwell is realistic. |
| Power | What is the per-port and combined maximum? How is output shared when another vehicle arrives? | A 660 kW vehicle-side maximum does not mean every session receives 660 kW. |
| Expected dwell | How much energy is needed, and what taper or power limit applies near high state of charge? | Break planning depends on delivered energy, not a nameplate maximum. |
| Detour | How many kilometres and minutes are added in each direction? Is the detour suitable for the trailer? | The detour consumes energy and can erase the time benefit of a faster charger. |
| Opening and access rules | Is the site open when needed? Are reservations, fleet accounts, card payment or an app required? | Authentication or restricted hours can turn an available connector into a missed stop. |
| Reliability | What is the live status, maintenance record and support contact? Is congestion visible? | A nominally powerful charger with repeated faults is a poor primary stop. |
| Fallback | Which second charger or depot is reachable, and what state-of-charge trigger starts the diversion? | A fallback converts a single-point failure into a manageable operational decision. |
Step 6: Schedule the charging session and driver time
The 20–80% window is the clearest published reference for this truck. It covers 60 percentage points of the battery’s state-of-charge display and is specified at approximately 38 minutes with dual CCS2. Actual dwell can be longer because charging power may taper, the battery may be cold or hot, the site may limit output, or the driver may need time to queue, authenticate and position the vehicle.
Plan the stop around the energy required for the next safe leg, not around a reflexive target of 80%. Charging above that point may be useful when the next suitable site is distant, but the additional time and taper should be verified in the fleet’s own data. Conversely, a shorter session may be adequate when a known truck-capable stop is close and the arrival reserve remains intact.

DHL Group reports a maximum dual-port charging power of 660 kW and a dual 20–80% time of no more than 38 minutes. Those are upper-level vehicle and test figures, not a promise that every public station will supply the same result.
Step 7: Set an operating reserve from fleet risk, not a universal percentage
No universal reserve percentage is specified for the eTopas 600. The correct reserve depends on route uncertainty, weather, traffic, charger reliability, diversion distance, payload and the consequences of arriving late or empty. A fleet should define its own minimum arrival state of charge and diversion trigger using operating evidence and a documented risk policy.
A defensible reserve-setting process
- Collect real consumption records for comparable payloads, trailers, temperatures, speeds and elevations.
- Measure the error between predicted and actual energy use on each leg.
- Quantify the energy and time needed to reach the selected fallback, including detours and likely congestion.
- Set an arrival floor that covers the observed error and the fallback requirement, with additional margin for high-consequence routes.
- Define a state-of-charge trigger for diversion before the primary site’s access road or queue becomes unavoidable.
- Review the policy after seasonal changes, route alterations, charger failures or a change in trailer operation.
Write the reserve and diversion rule into the dispatch plan so a driver does not have to improvise while the battery is low. A route planner should display both the expected state of charge and the conservative floor, not just a single optimistic number.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. An illustrative planning calculation
Suppose a planned leg is 420 km. Applying the published 1.1 kWh/km baseline gives 462 kWh before adjustments. That arithmetic is useful for screening, but it is not a dispatch approval: payload, weather, grade, traffic and auxiliary loads may increase the requirement, and the 621 kWh figure is not stated as fully usable energy at every state of charge.

- Replace the baseline with the fleet’s adjusted consumption estimate for that load and route.
- Reserve energy for the required arrival state of charge and for a reachable fallback.
- Locate a truck-capable CCS2 stop before the predicted state of charge reaches the operating floor.
- Calculate the energy needed to continue, rather than assuming a full 20–80% session is always necessary.
- Confirm that the stop’s dual-port capability, dwell, access and opening rules match the plan.
This method deliberately avoids treating nominal battery capacity as a promise of remaining range. It also makes the assumptions visible to dispatch and the driver.

Build resilience with a primary stop and a fallback
Every route should contain at least one secondary option: another truck-capable charger, a depot charger or a safe return point that remains reachable within the reserve policy. Record its address, access instructions, connector arrangement, support contact and expected detour in the dispatch plan.
Define the diversion trigger in advance. Examples include a primary site showing an unavailable status at the final pre-departure check, a queue that exceeds the allowed dwell, a failed authentication attempt, a power level below the modeled minimum, or a state-of-charge projection that falls below the reserve floor. The trigger should be early enough to reach the fallback without relying on the final few percentage points of the battery.
Validate the plan on the day of operation
Charging networks and road conditions change. Recheck the following shortly before departure and again if the trip is significantly delayed:
- Live connector availability and maintenance status.
- Whether dual-port charging is enabled and how site power is currently shared.
- Queue length, reservations, opening hours and authentication requirements.
- Road restrictions, closures, weather, wind and severe temperature.
- Truck access, trailer rules and any temporary bay occupation.
- Primary and fallback routes with current traffic and elevation constraints.
Save the operator’s support number and the fallback instructions where the driver can access them offline. A route that works only when mobile data, a payment app and a specific charger are all available is not resilient enough for a commercial schedule.
CCS2 cable and connector considerations
Because the eTopas 600 uses CCS2, a CCS2 cable may appear to be a straightforward accessory. A generic cable is not automatically suitable for a heavy truck or for every charging installation. Verify the cable’s current rating, cooling method, length, connector arrangement and approval for the intended charger. The cable must also reach the vehicle’s left or right port without being stretched across a traffic lane or placed where it can be crushed.
When the site supplies attached cables, check their reach and physical condition before committing to the stop. When the operating model requires carrying a cable, document which cable is approved for the fleet and which charging cabinets accept it. Never infer dual-port operation merely from carrying two cables; the vehicle and station must be configured to energize both ports safely.
Common planning failures and corrective actions
| Failure | What happened | Correction |
|---|---|---|
| Using the headline range as the route limit | Actual conditions consume more energy than the reference test. | Model payload, weather, elevation, speed, traffic and auxiliaries, then apply the fleet reserve policy. |
| Assuming every CCS2 site is a truck site | The truck cannot turn, park, clear a bridge or keep the trailer connected. | Verify dimensions, swept path, bay length, clearance, pavement and trailer rules with the operator. |
| Planning 38 minutes at a single-port charger | The published timing applies to dual CCS2 operation. | Confirm simultaneous charging; otherwise obtain a separate dwell estimate and add queue time. |
| Ignoring power sharing | A second vehicle reduces the available output. | Check the cabinet’s combined limit and model a lower-power scenario or use the fallback. |
| Arriving with no diversion margin | A fault or queue forces an unsafe or impossible detour. | Place the stop earlier and define a state-of-charge diversion trigger. |
| Leaving payment and access until arrival | The driver cannot authenticate or the site is closed. | Confirm accounts, cards, reservations, opening rules and support contacts before departure. |
| Relying on stale network status | A previously available connector is offline or occupied. | Perform a live check on the operating day and retain a reachable fallback. |
What the published specifications do not answer
The available eTopas 600 specifications do not provide a vehicle-specific consumption curve by payload, weather or speed, a universal reserve percentage, or a current site-level charging map. Those decisions belong in the operator’s telematics, route-planning system and selected charging network data for the actual geography and date.
That limitation is manageable when the planning process records assumptions, compares predictions with actual energy use and updates the reserve policy. It is risky only when a catalogue range or connector label is treated as a complete route plan.
Bottom line
Use the eTopas 600’s 621 kWh battery, 560 km reference range, 1.1 kWh/km baseline and dual-CCS2 20–80% charging figure as starting inputs, not guarantees. A safe commercial route combines condition-adjusted energy modeling, an early truck-capable stop, verified simultaneous charging and power, a realistic dwell, and a documented fallback that remains reachable within the fleet’s reserve policy.
