To pair a phone with a Hyundai Bayon, open the infotainment system’s phone-projection or device-connection settings, add the phone, and follow the prompts on both screens. Use wireless pairing only when the fitted Bayon head unit supports wireless projection. For a wired connection, plug the phone into the vehicle’s front data-enabled USB port with a cable that carries data and has the correct connector.
The exact menu labels, USB layout, and available connection methods vary by Bayon model year, market, and infotainment system. A Bayon nameplate alone does not prove that every vehicle has both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Check your Bayon and phone before pairing
Hyundai has sold the Bayon with more than one infotainment configuration. Hyundai Europe describes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on Bayon versions with a 10.25-inch center screen. An earlier all-new Bayon announcement described an 8-inch Display Audio option with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, alongside a separate 10.25-inch AVN option. Those descriptions apply to particular configurations and production periods, not automatically to every Bayon in every country.

Start by identifying the system fitted to your car and checking the owner manual for your market and model year. Hyundai’s instructions qualify some procedures with “if wired connectivity is supported” or “if wireless connectivity is supported.” If the expected menu or connection method is missing, the head unit may not support it.

- iPhone: the car must support the wired or wireless CarPlay method you intend to use. Siri and CarPlay must be enabled on the phone for the first setup.
- Android phone: the phone must meet Android Auto compatibility requirements, and the relevant Android Auto app or system support must be available in your region.
- Wireless projection: Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must be enabled on the phone, and the vehicle must have wireless phone projection.
- Wired projection: the USB socket must support data, not merely charging, and the cable must support data transfer.
Park safely before changing phone-projection settings. Hyundai specifically warns against configuring these functions while driving.
Wired versus wireless: which connection should you use?
| Connection | What it needs | Main advantage | Common limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wireless CarPlay or Android Auto | A Bayon head unit with wireless projection; Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on the phone | No cable is needed after registration | Not available on every head unit; interference or environmental conditions can affect the connection |
| Wired CarPlay or Android Auto | A Bayon head unit with USB projection; a data-capable cable and a data-enabled USB port | Usually the simplest fallback when wireless projection is unavailable or unstable | The cable, connector type, and correct USB socket all matter |
In the UK specification cited for the Bayon, the front USB-A socket is marked “Charging & Data,” while the rear USB-C sockets are marked “Charging.” That means a phone connected to a rear charging-only socket may charge without starting CarPlay or Android Auto. Other markets and model years can use a different layout, so verify the labels in your vehicle.
How to connect a Bayon wirelessly
Use these steps only if the infotainment system offers wireless phone projection. Hyundai’s menu wording differs between system versions; look for Phone Projection, Device Connection, Bluetooth, or a similarly named option.
- Park the vehicle. Keep the car stationary while changing projection or Bluetooth settings.
- Open the phone-projection settings. On one Hyundai system, the path is
All menus > Settings > Device connection > Phone projection. Your system may use a different path or place the option under Bluetooth or Connectivity. - Choose Add New. Open the projection-device list and select the command to add a phone.
- Enable Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone. Wireless projection uses both radios. If the Bayon has a separate “Wi-Fi for phone projection” setting, enable it in the vehicle as well.
- Select the Bayon on the phone. Choose the vehicle’s Bluetooth name when it appears in the phone’s available devices.
- Compare the passkeys. The phone and vehicle display matching Bluetooth passkeys. Confirm only when the numbers are identical on both screens.
- Accept the projection request. Approve the CarPlay or Android Auto prompt on the phone and the vehicle display. Grant the permissions needed for contacts, messages, navigation, or other functions you want to use.
- Wait for the projection screen. The phone-projection home screen should replace or become available from the Bayon’s infotainment interface.
For later trips, the registered phone may connect automatically. If it does not, open the phone-projection device list and select the phone that was previously registered. One Hyundai manual says the described list can register up to six phones; treat that number as specific to that manual and system rather than a universal Bayon limit.

If the phone is already paired as ordinary Bluetooth
Hyundai’s manual notes that an existing Bluetooth entry can prevent registration through the phone-projection device list. If the Bayon refuses to add the phone for projection, remove the phone from the vehicle’s ordinary Bluetooth-devices list first, then add it through the Phone Projection menu. This may require pairing it again as a projection device.
How to connect a Bayon with a USB cable
A wired connection is appropriate when the head unit supports USB projection, when wireless projection is unavailable, or when a wireless link is unreliable.
- Enable USB projection if necessary. In the vehicle’s device-connection or phone-projection settings, look for a USB projection or CarPlay/Android Auto switch. Some systems expose the option only after a phone is connected.
- Find the data-enabled USB socket. Use the socket identified for data or phone projection. In the cited Bayon specification, that is the front USB-A “Charging & Data” port. The listed rear USB-C ports are charging-only.
- Use a suitable cable. The cable must carry data, not just power, and its phone-end connector must fit the device. Examples include a USB-A to USB-C cable for a compatible Android phone or USB-A to Lightning cable for an iPhone. Hyundai recommends the phone manufacturer’s approved cable.
- Connect the phone once. Plug it into the data port and wait for the vehicle to recognize it. Avoid rapidly plugging and unplugging the cable, which Hyundai warns can create a connection error.
- Accept the setup prompts. Confirm the request on the Bayon screen and the phone. Keep the phone unlocked if the initial setup requires it.
- Complete the platform permissions. On an iPhone, confirm that Siri and CarPlay are enabled. On Android, complete the Android Auto permissions and any regional compatibility steps shown on the phone.
A phone that only charges is not proof that the setup failed because of software. First check that the cable carries data and that the socket is the vehicle’s data port.
iPhone setup details for Apple CarPlay
CarPlay can be wired or wireless depending on the Bayon’s fitted system. Apple’s connection method also depends on the vehicle’s capability, so use the owner manual rather than assuming that a Bayon with CarPlay support is wireless.

- For wired CarPlay, connect to the Bayon’s data-enabled USB socket with a data-capable cable.
- Accept the CarPlay request on the iPhone and choose whether to allow CarPlay while the phone is locked, if that option appears.
- If CarPlay does not appear, check the iPhone’s CarPlay settings and confirm that CarPlay has not been restricted on the device.
Do not substitute a charging-only cable or USB socket. Power delivery alone cannot carry the CarPlay data connection.
Android phone setup details for Android Auto
Android Auto likewise depends on both the phone and the Bayon head unit. Requirements and app availability can vary by Android version and region.
- For wireless Android Auto, turn on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and complete the Bayon’s wireless projection registration.
- For wired Android Auto, use the vehicle’s data-enabled USB port and a data-capable cable with the correct phone connector.
- Follow the Android Auto permissions shown during first setup, including access needed for calls, messages, contacts, and navigation.
- If Android Auto is not offered on the phone, verify that the phone and software meet the current regional compatibility requirements before troubleshooting the car.
Android Auto may appear as a projection option only after the Bayon recognizes the phone. Connecting to a charging-only port will not trigger that recognition.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhat to do when CarPlay or Android Auto will not connect
No CarPlay or Android Auto option appears
- Check the Bayon’s exact model year, market, and infotainment system. The feature may be listed for the Bayon range while absent from a particular head unit.
- Look in the full Settings or Device Connection menus for Phone Projection, rather than relying on a shortcut icon that may not exist on your system.
- Confirm that the phone supports the selected wired or wireless method.
- Enable the relevant projection setting in the vehicle if it is disabled.
The phone charges but projection does not start
- Move the cable to the vehicle’s front data-enabled USB port.
- Replace the cable with a known data-capable cable approved or supplied by the phone manufacturer.
- Inspect the phone connector and USB socket for a loose fit or debris.
- Reconnect once after the vehicle has fully loaded its infotainment system; do not repeatedly unplug and reconnect in rapid succession.
The UK equipment specification’s distinction between a front “Charging & Data” port and rear “Charging” ports is a useful example of why a charging result alone does not establish data compatibility.

The Bayon cannot find the phone wirelessly
- Turn on both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on the phone.
- Enable wireless phone projection in the Bayon’s settings if the system has a separate switch.
- Make sure the phone is being added through the projection-device list, not only through ordinary Bluetooth audio settings.
- Remove an old Bluetooth entry for the phone if Hyundai’s system will not register it as a projection device.
- Confirm that the phone and head unit support the same wireless projection method.
The passkey does not match
Cancel the pairing and start again. Confirm that the passkey shown on the Bayon and the phone is identical before accepting. Never approve a different number simply to force the connection.
Wireless projection connects and then drops
Hyundai notes that interference and environmental conditions can affect wireless projection. Move the phone away from other active wireless equipment, keep it in a stable location, and retry after restarting the phone and infotainment system. There is no single guaranteed fix because the cause can be environmental, phone-related, or specific to the vehicle’s wireless system.
The menu names in the manual do not match
Hyundai uses different interfaces across Bayon systems. One manual gives the path All menus > Settings > Device connection > Phone projection, but another head unit may use different labels. Use the manual for the vehicle’s country, model year, and fitted infotainment system. A Hyundai retailer can identify the head unit from the vehicle details when the correct manual is unclear.

| Phone connector | Typical cable description for the cited front USB-A port | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C | USB-A to USB-C data cable | It must support data transfer, not only charging |
| Lightning | USB-A to Lightning data cable | Use a suitable approved or manufacturer-certified cable where applicable |
Do not assume that every Bayon requires a USB-A cable: port layouts can differ by market and year. Likewise, do not buy a wireless adapter unless compatibility with the exact head unit has been confirmed; the evidence for one Bayon configuration does not establish universal adapter support.
How the Bayon’s different configurations affect pairing
The model name covers several equipment combinations. Hyundai Europe’s current Bayon feature information refers to phone projection on a 10.25-inch center screen, while the earlier all-new Bayon announcement described wireless CarPlay and Android Auto with an 8-inch Display Audio option. A separate 10.25-inch AVN system was also described. These are configuration-specific descriptions, so screen size alone should not be treated as a complete compatibility test.
The same caution applies to USB ports. The cited UK specification identifies front USB-A data connectivity and rear USB-C charging, but another market may use different sockets or functions. Check the symbols printed beside the ports and the equipment list for your vehicle rather than transferring the UK layout to every Bayon.
